Title: Micronauts
Post by: napseeker on July 20, 2015, 07:41:02 PM
http://news.toyark.com/2015/07/20/mask-micronauts-action-man-and-more-being-revived-by-hasbro-170056

It's not really news since Hasbro acquired the Micronauts license years ago (and seemingly done little with it) but good to know that Micronauts and MASK are still in development.  I still hope to own a 3.75" scale SA Baron Karza and Force Commander figure someday...

Couple that with news about Hasbro giving IDW access to Micronauts and ROM, this is a great time to be a nostalgic old dude #me

I REALLY enjoyed these figures & toys when I was younger (but don't get me started on the comics - yikes). I haven't really explored much about getting some old vintage stuff - is it all worth a fortune or has the line kinda kept under the radar? Even a few loose time travelers would suit me.

It's fairly expensive, I've been trying to slowly add to my micronauts collection and finding that these toys do still go for quite a bit of money.  Try getting a complete Antron with all of his attachments and it's around $50.

The bug wave & bug vehicles - my god those were AWESOME! I loved the "Terraphaunt" or whatever his name was with the squirt gun & the hornet vehicle as well. That was later in the run though, right? After the initial ones were more plain & articulated like the Time Traveler, similar figure with jetpack that snapped open & the one in the King Tut coffin. Dang, now you've got my OCD kicking in..... cannot afford an expensive foray into vintage toys at this time....  :speechless-smiley-004:

Micronauts was an extremely inventive toyline, it also helps that the Marvel comic was plain amazing too...  I cannot begin to emphasize how much I'd kill for a properly scaled 3.75" Baron Karza and Force Commander (plus their respective horses).

That said, with Hasbro nowadays we can probably expect to get them in limited 5POA, and unrecognizable thanks to whatever "modern" touches they will want to add to the characters/toys.

I have a few, all the "monsters", the Terraphant and Hornetroid vehicles. Would like to capture Ampzilla, Sharkos and Lobstros one day, but their prices are insanely high, and that's when you ever get the chance to see them on eBay. It's a pity I had all of these when I was a kid, but sold them for a few pennies later, only to rebuy them at outrageous prices 20 years later. Oh well. And the fact that I always found that Ampzilla design to be grotesque... now that it's the most sought after piece of the Micronauts line (at least for me LOL) makes it a lot more attractive it seems... LOL :-)

Nice work on the collection! I don't even know if that second wave of figures (Lobstros et al) came out in Canada, did they? I thought it died off up here after Membros' wave and those 2 vehicles. Likely more like I moved on & missed the hard to find last wave, much like I did with SW & POTF.  :mad0218:

Yes, they did come to Canada. These are not from my childhood, had to repurchase everything, but yes, I indeed all them all with my brothers when we were kids. In fact, I wasn't that aware of what was coming, most of these toys I got as Xmas gifts and we didn't venture the stores at the time. I was well too busy playing outdoors with my brothers and friends... and Internet didn't exist. It's only a few years later that we discovered the Consumers Distributor and Sears Xmas catalogues and had the chance to look for the new stuff coming our way for SW... :-)

Issue #1 of the new Micronaughts comic just released last week if anyone wasn't aware.

I think I still have my Micronauts set.  I loved them as a kid.  I found the set I had:

Mobile Exploration Set : Large scientific research platform. This was probably one of the most versatile Micronauts, disassembling into a spaceship, land crusier and mini-personnel carrier. Had movable arms on each side of the tower and a blaster in a rear compartment. . Near the end of the movie “Time Bandits” you can see the base craft from the MEL in the final battle between good and evil.

Is it an update of the Marvel characters like Tic or is something all new? I saw the cover but the store was super busy last weekend and I didn't bother flipping through it.

You guys hear about the Hasbro shared universe that hasbro is working on? Trying to emulate the marvel cinematic universe.

Good luck! Merging gi Joe, micronauts, visionaries and mask? Sounds like desperation for hasbro after the two Joe stinkers.

Definitely an "out of the box" concept, I don't have high hopes but do have some interest in where they go with it.

Generally speaking outside the box is a good thing. Leads to innovation and maybe rejuvenation.  Which is what Joe needs.

Being a Joe fan who cares virtually nothing about any of the other mentioned properties it's disappointing. It shows me how little faith hasbro has in GI Joe after the two movies that came out. Notice Transformers (the crossover some Joe fans actually wanted, though not me) isn't among the listed properties. I guess they don't want Joe dragging transformers down.

I am curious to see where it goes but I have no faith it will actually lead to anything good.

I thought the 2nd GI Joe movie was a big improvement over the first - they shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of Channing Tatum's character - I guess he could be ret-conned into having survived easily enough & he's certainly a big time leading man these days.
