Wampa Cave / Re: Who's Dressing Up for Halloween?
« on: November 07, 2007, 01:51:11 PM »
Here's my son in his costume (my wife made it), along with the pumpkin (she carved), and his Bear, with the only costume I actually made myself.  I'll post up a picture of me in costume with the whole gang as soon as I can get it colour corrected, etc.

Wampa Cave / Mando'a in Toronto Star
« on: June 06, 2006, 11:05:06 PM »
Hey folks,

Just reading the TS and found the Mando'a is mentioned as a growing language online.  Page C4 of today's (Tuesday June 6th) paper (at least the metro version).  Short (like two lines) quotes from Karen Traviss about the language too.

I'll post a link if I can find one.

1407 please. - Ontario

If I may... :u:

Wampa Cave / Re: Star Wars Weekends at Disney

Hi CJ,

A couple years ago, my wife won a trip to DW, and by FLUKE we chose on the of the SW weekends!  No clue beforehand, it was just the weekend that worked best for us all. I kid not - our sister in law found out the weekend before we left! :D

The only suggestion I have is to get Fast Passes - at the gates, at opening.  Get there early.  The FP for Mr. Meyhew were apparently gone in about 20 minutes the morning we got there :mad0177:.  I ended up spending about 2 1/2 hours waiting in the hoser :snowtroopers: section, which is basicly a pen for anyone who didn't get a FP- if anyone misses their FP appointment, they let someone from the pen in line.  It was hot, sunny and irritating >:(. I was lucky enough to get in, but my wife (4 months pregnant at the time) couldn't stand around anymore, and left. :shakehead: So get a FP, and keep to the time.

There are a ton of people walking around the MGM park dressed in costume. They announce the "Big names"  - Luke, Leia (in white robe  not the metal bikini  :sad0064:) etc. and where they will be at what time, but we saw Rodian, Gammoreans, wandering around.  If you can catch up to one, they're happy to let you take pictures, or a park employee will take on with you in it.  One group didn't stop, but I realized that it's friggin hot in the costumes and I think it was break tims. There are "games" for young people - a lightsaber fight with Darth Vader, etc, and the Ewok village complete with AT-AT is worth taking a few pictures of.
There is also a parade every day, a few times a day.  SW has it's section too.  On the SW Weekends, the guests ride along in the back of the landspeeder.
A final warning - the shop that Star Tours lets out into can be really costly - we went through $200 US (Disney money - came with the trip) in about 10 minutes.  Get the SW weekend stuff, though - it's only around for the month.

Have a great time, CJ - I did, my wife did, and I guess the little guy did - he was kicking up a storm all the nights we were there.  But don't waste too much time in line for the guests if you don't get a fast pass. I missed out on the other guest  :shakehead:(Silias Carson, if I'm not mistaken) because I waited so long for Peter Mayhew, but it was nice to meet Mr Mayhew. It's just not worth missing out on the rest of the park.

Who's at the park this year, anyway?

Well here goes -

OK So I'm a goon  :scared0008: - Peter Meyhew is still damn near as tall as me - when he's sitting.
Disney SW Weekends rock. :party0007:  Two hours in the "I'm-so-lame-I-didn't-get-a-fastpass :mad0177:" pen, milling about like a sheep in the 37 degree temperatures was worth it. :character0005:

Hey all,

Thanks for the compliments on the boy - I think he's pretty cool, but it could be the parental goggles!

Sifo - I got the helmet from the (not so tasty :confused0024:) Attack of the Clones cereal that came out in '02.  You could send in for a helm, or they had a two-boxes-plus helmet set.

The helm is a little off for my melon - my eyes look out through the mouth vents! :mad0218:

Wampa Cave / Re:Snowtroopers, Whats your Deal?
« on: August 17, 2005, 01:00:59 PM »
What year did you start to seriously collect?
1997 - for the re-release.

What is your pride and joy of your collection?(POST A PIC!)
A Sandtrooper and a Darth Vader, purchased for me at Harrods, by my mother in law. Can't post a pic, they're packed for a move.

What item is your "Holy Grail"?
Already found one - Darth Vader with Removable Helmet 3 1/2". Most expensive figure I've ever bought.

What is the item you want to be seen made most?
Game Boy versions of the Battle of Endor and Battle of Yavin - best freeware games ever!

What was your first SW film ever viewed?
A New Hope - first movie I ever saw.

How Old are you?

What do you collect?
Just about anything SW related.

Do you open your figs are keep them sealed?
Sealed for 3 1/2"  - they look cooler on the wall.
I do open ships / creatures, though - they look better.

Do you have any focus shelves/ collections on the go?
Not really.

When do you plan to stop/ When will be enough?
I plan to stop when there is nothing to be found on the retail market - I don't think it should become a "I can pay more than you can" eBay situation.  That may change, though!

Standing in line ( 3 years old) to see ANH at the old Odeon in Sudbury with my Mom, Dad and brother.  That and driving my uncle nuts during a double bill ANH / EBS at the Supermall one December while my mom was in hospital. You just can't take four kids to the Santa parade, McDonalds and the movies all in one day!

Welcome Darth Son,
I'm not much less of a newbie, but in your profile, there's an option to set the picture - just choose what you like.

If you've only been collecting ROTS so far, may want to leave it that way - the wallet may actually have some cash then!

I guess this may be overkill, but in ALL episodes, someone has a bad feeling about this.

G'day Snowtroopers,

Just realized that I've been inflicting my views on y'all for a while yet, haven't introduced myself.
I'm just another GTA collector, fighting the crowds out in Markham, occasionally to Newmarket. 31 years, last 6 in GTA, first 25 in Sudbury.
First movie I ever saw: ANH.  Last movie I saw with my mom before she passed ::):TPM.  First movie my son ever saw (3 days old): ANH. (see Fan art for shot of the turkey.) AND he held his hand up every time they mentioned the name Han Solo.  Patient, long-suffering wife who somehow recalls every figure I have bought, and who I'm looking for.
Thanks to all for keeping this site on the go, it provides the needed break from the rigours of the office for a half hour on lunch.
One last thing - what, exactly, is a llama?  How does one avoid this affliction, and what are the first, early warning signs?

Star Wars Art / This may not be art, but
« on: June 15, 2005, 01:10:03 PM »
Hey folks!

Although this may not qualify as art, I thought I would throw it in anyway. The picture is a few months out of date, but as we're moving, I've had to pack the helmet.
Sorry about the pixelization - had to shrink the pic considerably.

Jedi Archives / Re:How do you Manage your Collection?

*Taps forehead*
It's all up here, kids. 8)

Oh alright.  I have an Excel spreadsheet listing everything, updated every few months.  Not recommeded if the collection is already large, though.  It is rather labour intensive at first, and if you don't update regularly it gets hard.

Wampa Cave / Re:I'll Never Spend Another Dime At PLANET X
« on: June 07, 2005, 11:21:52 AM »
Several years ago (when I was living in Sudbury) I had the same issue with a comic store who "could not put items aside".  They had a Luke that I could not find at retail, behind the glass at the counter.  When I asked if I could purchase it, I was told that another customer (actually, a friend of mine >:() was coming in to pick it up later that week, when he got paid.  A couple of weeks later, I stopped in to check the new releases, and was told that the gentleman in question had found the same figure at Wal Mart, if I would still like it it was now available.  It was with some glee I presented him with the figure I had just purchased at Zellers.
I didn't hold this against the store, but I did not go back to search his stock before any other store.  I had great service before and since (until the store changed owners, anyway), but there was no longer any reason to give him my business first on SW figures. He was not a scalper, his prices were only high enough to cover his costs. He just pleased one client at the risk of another.

In short, I feel your pain! Favoritism sucks.
