Off Topic / The Reason(s) I Haven't Been Around Much For Awhile
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:47:28 AM »
I haven't been around the boards very much for months, and I have been very bad about answering PM's, etc.
But I swear I have a good reason:

Wolfgang Alexander Hildebrand
Born March 26
9.1 lbs

Between his arrival and renovating to prepare for it, I have had very little time for SW unfortunately.
But I'm back now and I might even post a trade thread that I will actually reply to! :P

Off Topic / Re: I &^%&ing HATE Winter!!!!
« on: March 02, 2007, 05:33:48 PM »
Bring me down on the side that HATES winter.  Spent a week in the summer digging in a new weeping tile at the back of my house.  Thought I had licked my leak problems forever.   Spent the last couple of months finishing my basement, got new carpet installed last week.
Yesterday the back corner leaks where we couldn't dig because of the driveway pavement, soaking a small part of my brand new, less than a week old carpet and underpad.
So now I've got a dehumidifier and heater running in my basement trying to dry things out, AND I got to spend several hours outside chipping ice off my driveway to avoid any more potential leaks.
Winter blows goats hard :mad0137:

Wampa Cave / Re: Deleted Luke and Biggs Scene!
« on: May 18, 2006, 08:52:24 PM »
Believe me, working in film and TV, I've seen a LOT of scenes shot that never make the final cut.
There are tons of reasons scenes are shot and then left on the cutting room floor.
In this case, I'm pretty sure it was left out for pacing reasons.  You don't NEED this scene to understand the story.  Strike 1. It's heavy on dialogue and exposition which is not really necessary, always a killer for a scene.  Strike 2.  A lot of talk and no action, it slows the pace of the first reel down, delaying the arrival of more important stuff like how the droids make it to Luke's farm and his meeting with Ben, two events that really drive the story forward and out into space where the real action is.  Strike 3 and you're out!
As a SW nerd, I loved seeing this, but I can understand why it was cut.  It would be nice, however, if Lucas included stuff like this on the DVDs for the fans.

While I am VERY happy about this and will definitely grab this set, it kinda pisses me off because just last week I bought a box set of the originals in widescreen VHS.

That sucks about Calgary, they really need to up the offence for next season.

Wampa Cave / Re: star wars chronicles - Book - worth it?
« on: May 02, 2006, 03:47:03 PM »
The OT book is tremendous, although I didn't pay $200 for it :scared0008:
After I bought mine, I found one in a used bookstore last year and grabbed it for a buddy of mine.   Price: $25! :P
Wish mine had been that cheap...but it is a great book.
The prequel one I passed on at Costco last year for $130.   CG images just can't compare to all the great models and props featured in the original book.

I'm so glad I was wrong about my Detroit prediction! :u:
Really looking forward to another Battle of Alberta.  Just too bad it's so early.  I'd have liked to have seen both teams go further than the second round.
Despite his so-so play during the regular season, it's now becoming apparant why Chris Pronger was such a big signing.  The guy is a playoff machine :love0030:

I'd wait for clearance on this.   It looks great but is absolutely CLOGGING the shelves everywhere I have seen it.

Ottawa reminded me a bit of the 80's Oilers last night.
"Oh well, we'll play sloppy, we can afford to give up 4 (should have been 5) goals.  Because we KNOW we can outscore the other team by scoring AT WILL."
Heatley, Spezza, Havlat, Chara, and Redden all appear to have woken up now.
Which is very bad news for Tampa.   They're my favourite non-Canadian team, but they're going to be golfing soon if last night was any indication.

On a different note, WTF is up with CBC alternating between the Oil and Flames series? :sign0065:
Show one or the other, I'd be really pissed about this if they were the only Canuck teams left.

Wampa Cave / Re: Figure Stashing
« on: April 22, 2006, 04:09:16 PM »
Stashing is not putting down a fig on a shelf or on the wrong peg.  I've done that too.
Stashing is actively hiding said fig.  You know, putting it behind the Darth Vader voice changers in the next aisle or tucking it up out of sight on the top shelf.
I can appreciate what you guys are saying about the satisfaction of finding someone's stash, but that has to be outweighed by the times you DON'T find the stash and go home with nothing.l

Thank God I only collect ROTS-era clones.  My wallet needs a break.  That pack does look sweet though! :D

I know this is an old chestnut, but I thought I'd bring it up again with the Coruscant wave starting to hit.
What's your opinion of figure stashing?
I think it has to be one of the most inconsiderate, stupid things that collectors do to one another.
Today I found 2 Vaders stashed in 2 different Zellers.  One was a regular, and one was an UGH.  Neither was hidden in a very imaginative place, it took me about 5 seconds to find both.  But I'm sure there are some stashers out there with enough intelligence to hide things better, or at least hide them more than 2 feet away from the SW pegs.
I just think it sucks that you show up to a store, see evidence that new figs were there, and then walk away empty-handed because some idiot was there before you and decided to hide figures instead of leaving them on the pegs.
Hunting is part of this hobby.  So is having a job/money to buy the stuff you find.
If you don't have the cash, don't bother hunting.  Leave the figs for another collector to find. :maul:
