Wampa Cave / Netflix-The Toys That Made Us
« on: December 26, 2017, 06:56:12 AM »
Just found a show on Netflix last night called The Toys That Made Us.  4 Episodes I believe and the history of the toys that kids grew up on.  The first focusing on Star Wars. All the major brands turning down the movie rights till Kenner picked it up through to the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and the new movies.

Some great interviews with the guys who designed the vintage SW lines of toys.

But not George....

Polls / Which do I get signed???? Ray Park autograph
« on: March 16, 2017, 06:44:04 PM »
Other suggestions are welcome.  I have considered my Episode 1 movie poster.

I have the Jango/Boba Fett Unleashed signed by both Daniel Logan and Temuera Morrison and the original Vader (you don't know the power pose) signed by David Prowse.  I just know that my options for future signatures on that line are going to be more limited than the VC line (like Ahsoka, mon mothma and other characters from Rebels and the Animated Clone Wars lines.)

Does it even matter??

Just saw this happening tomorrow in Pickering.  Anyone know if this is the first year?  If not, has anyone gone and is it worth the $10-$15 and the hour drive it'll take me to get there.

Cheers!!

Other Star Wars Toys & Collectibles / Star Wars Pop Vinyls
« on: December 29, 2015, 05:21:36 PM »
Haven't seen a thread on this and they've been out for a couple of years now.  I've managed to hold off on anything Episode 7 with the exception of the Pops.  I've actually been able to track down just over half of the overall SW collection at retail (and a couple at toy shows) and usually on sale of some kind (bogo, microplay has a buy 6 get on free punchcard)

Anyone else jump on this train?  I think they are really cool and more unique than the Mighty Mugs that came out a few years back that were just the ultimate in repaints.

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's on Snowtroopers.  I didn't get anything SW related, but got a Dr. Who license plate cover that says my other ride is the Tardis.

Sweet!

Off Topic / The demise and rebirth of DarthKeg
« on: December 13, 2014, 08:48:53 AM »
Hey there guys,

It just occurred to me that I haven't brought this up yet and have the opportunity to do so now.  A few years back there was a trooper on here named Darth Keg.  He worked at TRU and was great at providing information regarding timelines and pricepoints of new stuff coming out, ie figures, exclusives, multipacks etc.

Then he got in trouble.  The head of loss prevention and another fellow from head office came by the store (2 Saturdays before  Christmas) to have an unannounced meeting with just him.  The store director didn't even know what was going on and called him to the office, introduced him to the guys from h/o and left.  They asked how long he had been working there (6 weeks), what department he worked in (boys), the work he did (merchandising, restocking, cleaning etc), if he liked the job (he did and was hoping his seasonal position would turn into permanent work).

They then asked if he had posted anything online about TRU goings on.  He said he had.  They asked if he has posted on a site called snowtroopers.ca.  He had.  They then asked why.  Keg explained it was to provide information to the vast network of collectors out there to get the sales at TRU rather than have them going to Walmart or Zellers etc.  They asked if it was to provide information to those companies to give them an advantage in sales.  Keg laughed and said no.  Then Keg asked how they knew all this and they provided a printout of EVERY SINGLE POST he had made on this site.  EVERY. SINGLE. POST.  Regardless of the topic.  There was at least 200 pages.

They then asked if Keg (or it's me) if I had sold anything on ebay.  I said yes of course.  They asked if I had sold anything I had purchased at TRU online.  I said no, that would be taking advantage of my position and a conflict of interest.  The questions went on for about an hour and a half and it was finally decided that no action would be taken against me so long as I agreed to stop posting "sensitive" information about TRU product here.  I agreed.

I told a couple of troopers on here of the situation, removed myself as a user, made a new account a couple of weeks later and just slide the odd bit of news to others via pm and let them post it.

I stayed with the company for another 9 years after that, eventually becoming an Express Store manager.  It closed after 2 1/2 years and I was sent back to the store I was at with the promise of promotion.  I got the promotion, but no pay increase.  I said thanks but no thanks and left.  That was 9 months ago.  It just occurred to me this morning that I haven't told my story yet and now I could.  So there you have it.

For those that remember him, Darth Keg is alive and well and still collecting, but now you can call me Fishfan.

Cheers   :u:

Non-Star Wars Toys / Simpsons Lego
« on: May 06, 2014, 06:57:18 PM »
Not sure if there is a desire for these on here, but I was thrilled to find out about them and even happier today when I found 12 cases of the Simpsons Lego mini figs on the shelves at my local TRU.  Price has gone up though, from $3.49 to $3.99.  Not sure if that's because it's a licensed mini fig or if the price has just gone up.

Was able to feel myself to an almost full set.  Got them all except Mr. Burns and a double of Nelson, although I haven't opened it so I can take it back and switch it.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.  Hope you all get something SW related! (unless it's POTF dogface Leia.  No one wants that....)

Cheers!!

Other Star Wars Toys & Collectibles / The Star Wars Dark Horse comic
« on: September 04, 2013, 04:41:57 PM »
Not sure if I'm in the right spot or not, but today is the release day of Dark Horses's adaptation of "The Star Wars".  The original treatment from 1974 that Lucas first wrote about a young Jedi named Annikin Skywalker and General Luke Starkiller.  I called a couple of shops as soon as I got off work, but they've sold out already.

Just wondered if anyone picked this up or not.  I haven't bought a SW comic since the last issue of the Marvel series and I'm hoping to grab this one.  I think it's a 6 part run.

So just went to local Wally and found the jackpot.  Must have been the optimist in me Ambasha!!

lumat
emperor's royal guard
orrimaarko
nien nunb
clone wars obi wan
weequay
naboo pilot
aurra sing
mawhonic
gungan warrior
clone wars ahsoka
republic trooper

All VC and tri logo.  Best part of the deal was the $6.47 tags were still up and they all scanned at 10.47.  I had to pay full price for one, then I got $10 off one for the scanning code of practice rule, and the rest were all price adjusted to 6.47!!  $85 for the wave tax included!!

Can someone confirm this for me?  I've been trying to find a list that was compiled of figs coming out this year and ones that are being released in multiple series.  So far all I can find is this. From the discover the force series the following will be also released later this year on vintage cardback:

Aurra Sing
Naboo Pilot
Gungun Warrior
Mawhonic
G8-R3

So Ric Olie will only be on the DTF walmart series.

What about any of the MH line?  Since this is now a mix of new and repacks does anyone know if any of the new figs will be on VC cards.  I really hate buying something twice and would much rather just have the figs on the VC cards, but if the only way I can get Ric is the DTF card, then so be it.

THanks

Saw this pic at Rebel scum.  The sticker covers 80% of the cardback.  I pray this doesn't happen here.

Off Topic / Lowes flyer for Aug 26th?
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:44:24 AM »
Hey there guys,  I'm wondering if anyone has their flyers yet.  I don't get the local paper w/flyers till late Thur-mid Fri and I'm trying to find out if Lowe's is having a sale on their firebowls.

I'm pretty sure the one I want it going on sale as they did a stackout of them  in their seasonal dept and I'm also sure that if I buy it and it goes on sale, I can get the difference back.  I'd just rather not fork out $200 to begin with if it's going to be reduced to $100 or so.

thanks.

Jedi Archives / cleaning vintage figs
« on: August 13, 2011, 02:18:13 PM »
So I just came into a collection of vintage figs and most if not all of the torso's on them have a white film on them.  Originally I thought they were just worn, but I tried scraping one and the stuff came off.

Is there a safe way to clean this stuff off without damaging/ruining the plastic?  And am I giving myself a rainy day job using a toothpick, q-tip and some handsoap?
