Off Topic / 6 inch figure customizing
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:30:24 PM »
So I don't do much in the way of customizing, but a friend of mine has started getting into it- she jsut did a simple but very cool mod of a Spidey figure into a Scarlet Spider. For her next project, she wants to do Atom Eve from Invincible (one of my favorite comic series, I like it better than the Walking Dead, both written by Robert Kirkman). Anyways, 6 inch figures are not something I know a lot about, and finding a good figure to use as a base has proven challenging. I thought a Ms Marvel would work, if such a thing exists but it doesn't appear so. Anyone have advice for us?

Wampa Cave / Boba fett Color Scheme help
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:18:12 PM »
So I'm building a chopper in my dad's garage. An old yamaha XS 650 which I'm turning into a bobber. Ugly old bikes but it's fun! Here's a picture of the work-in-progress:

Anyways, my crazy idea is to make this a Bobber Fett!  Just the color scheme, really- I'm thinking the frame can be the grey tones of his uh, overalls or whatever, and the tank can be modelled on his helmet, complete with scratches and "used" look. I even thought of denting it but it's a $300 custom tank so I can't quite go that far! Has anyone ever painted a helmet or anything in those colors and have some paint numbers or anything? Cheers

The Toys - Snowtrooper Reviews! / TIE Bomber

I don't own any Imperial ships though I had a TIE interceptor when I was a kid. How I miss that interceptor! The Bomber is a pretty cool design too. The ship is a great likeness, maybe a little mroe bluish grey than in the movies. Didn't come with a pilot figure but I had one lying around. So I'm glad I bought it, maybe a little on the pricey side.

Wampa Cave / 35 bucks for a concept snowtrooper??
« on: June 10, 2010, 12:20:39 AM »
So today I brought my daughter to  a place few Edmontonians ever venture- West Edmonton Mall. And who knew there;s a whole store devoted to collectors toys called, Collectors Toys or something. Collecotrs Edge maybe. Tons of SW figures. I finally found the Joe Johnson Snowtrooper, the only figure from the Legacy line that I haven't got that I want (not counting the waves we'll never see in Canada) but they wanted 34.99 !  So I swallowed my dignity and I bought it. No of course I didn't. But i had to vent amongst people who could feel my pain. Thank you.

This one collects some series and one-shots set between Eps IV and V. Vader's Quest, which was not very good. Another one about some aliens and a TIE pilot and Leia which was tiresome to read. Splinter of the Mind's Eye had some nice art, but was unfortunately too faithful to the novel to be very good! Some stories supposedly told by patrons of the MOs Eisley cantina but were just thinly veiled 50s sfi-fi shorts. All in all, glad this was another library rental.

This one I got from the library, since I was a little burned by paying cover price for SotE.
For free it;'s a pretty good read! The intro story with the two hyperspace explorers reminded me a little of the old French comic Valerian, does anyone know it?
The parts in the Sith world were alright, kind of cheesy dialogue and standard plot but still a fun read. Glad I didn't buy it though!

I remember when the Nintendo 64 came out, I was in university and not really in a position to buy a console. BUt then Shadows of the Empire came out so I at least rented one for a weekend and was totally engrossed in the game- the snowspeeders vs AT-ATs level felt like virtual reality at the time. (Now it prolly looks like fuzzy tetragons but at the time!). Anyways  I never had time to finish it and I never really knew there was a whole multimedia even tied in to it.
So now the massive Omnibus comes out and  i can catch up on what I missed!  Only . . . it was kind of terrible. Just really badly written, (the art was alright but nothing amazing) with a ton of "wuh?" moments. Who knew Boba Fett was such a talkative chap?
And you know that comic pack pegwarmer with 80s baby blue Leia and Prince Xizor?  I always wondered why Hasbro would make such an unappealing pack, and thought it must be a really significant scene from the comic. But no.
Oh well. I love the old Marvel series and there are some ubercheese moments and then some in those. To each his own.

Vintage Kenner (1978-1985) / Vintage Leia
« on: January 22, 2010, 02:52:49 AM »
So I been on ebay a bit trying to get some old Kenner figures. I noticed original Leia seems to go quite high- $20-30. The others are in the 5-10 range. Is there a reason?  When I was little I made my sister play with Leia cause us boys were too manly!
