Wampa Cave / The BB-8 First Order playset
« on: August 14, 2017, 01:10:20 PM »

Rebelscum and JTA have posted pics of the upcoming BB-8 First Order playset... since there are still some of us left who care about getting a decent playset from Hasbro, here are some of my observations:

- from top-to-bottom: Snoke's throne room (more of a balcony than a room), the Star Destroyer bridge, hallway with a red-panelled bridge, and what may be the trash compactor room at the bottom.

- comes with a very tall Snoke 5POA action figure who has no way to sit in his own throne it would seem (at least not without looking really awkward). He's wearing a long gold robe (which for some reason made me think of Donald Trump)

- also comes with a suprisingly decent Praetorian Guard, although the arms continue to look poorly designed

- on the left side of the hallway level seems to be a bridge that I bet collapses, allowing figures to fall into the trash compactor

Unfortunately since the playset unfolds out of a BB-8 shape, it suffers from having a curvature to the walls that distorts the look of the hallway. But for the second level "bridge" this curvature actually helps a bit to convey the opposing angular windowed walls of the bridge.

BUT it's a huge disappointment that our first chance to get a playset of a Star Destroyer bridge (other than the Kenner vintage toy), one that might serve for both the OT and ST eras, and we end up with a tiny, tiny little play area! There's no lower deck for the technicians to sit in, only what seems to be the higher walkway where you can put a Vader to peer out one of the windows.

Wampa Cave / Carrie Fisher has passed away
« on: December 27, 2016, 05:04:12 PM »
Just saw this on the news seconds ago. I'm still in shock. It was to be expected given she stopped breathing for 10 minutes and that greatly reduced her odds of surviving. But still.

A very bright, shining star at the center of the Star Wars galaxy has been extinguished. In response, a million voices cried out, "Why take her? It was NOT her time!!!"  but there was only silence.

RIP, Carrie Fisher... you will be greatly missed.
Fisher also understood the immortality granted by a role that was such a massive part of pop culture. At her August appearance at Wizard World Chicago, Fisher was asked about the passing of her Star Wars co-star Kenny Baker (the actor inside R2-D2) just a few days prior. “I don’t really connect with the fact that he is gone,” Fisher said. “If you’re in Star Wars, you really never go.” —Denny Watkins

Wampa Cave / Carrie Fisher in critical condition
« on: December 23, 2016, 05:24:14 PM »
In the wake of Alan Thicke's heart attack and death, sad to hear our princess has suffered a heart attack and the news is reporting she's in critical condition. My prayers go out to her, I really hope she has a full recovery. 2016 has just been a lousy year for celebrity deaths, this one we do NOT want to end the year with!

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Kenny Baker passes away
« on: August 13, 2016, 06:51:29 PM »

The second of the OT core cast (after Sir Alec Guinness) has passed away. 2016 has been a very glum year for celeb deaths and we're only about halfway through...

Expanded Universe - Legacy & the New EU / Aftermath: Life Debt
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:53:38 PM » has posted an excellent summary of the newest pre-TFA novel, Aftermath: Life Debt

For those who can't be bothered to read the novel, it's a very detailed listing of the major reveals and spoilers. It takes place before Bloodlines (despite my less than impressed view of TFA, this was a novel that I enjoyed greatly though not everyone may warm to all the politicking)

The biggest reveal of them all... the name of the Rancor from RotJ was...  Pateesa.

I'm glad I already have the 3.75" scale table and holo Leia or this would really cheese me off.  My sympathies to 6" collectors who wanted the extra accessories as I'm sure they will be gouged mercilessly.

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / More Rogue One details
« on: May 25, 2016, 06:15:44 PM »
..can be found here:

The AT-ATs are cargo transports apparently, so I guess Hasbro will be giving us the AT-ACT toy instead of a Death Star playset come XMas 2016.

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / The floating hand fan theory...

...was apparently correct at one point, but what a way to open up a movie by seeing Luke's floating hand:

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Jake Lloyd in a mental hospital
« on: May 03, 2016, 07:24:34 PM »
Kind of sad to see him going through this...

Aside from being hated (not by me though, the fault wasn't his) for playing Anakin, sounds like he's had a pretty troubled life since TPM.

Whoa, if anyone has some extra grey-colored LEGO pieces just lying around and was looking for inspiration for a project to do with the kids...

Wampa Cave / Admiral Ackbar has died :(
« on: April 04, 2016, 08:06:11 PM »

Man, there have been a slew of celebrity deaths this year, too many to count. And now both Ackbar and Bib Fortuna.

I thought about doing this myself over the years, but this guy has actually done it: bought up a few Death Star playsets and put them side-by-side to make a big ol' mega-Death Star playset.  Very cool!

Howard Boling clearly has much disposable income :D

The Force Awakens (2015-2016) / ToyFair 2016... let's talk!
« on: February 13, 2016, 04:38:37 PM »

Anyone know why Darth Maul is referred to as the "Red Avenger"???

The softgoods on the 6" Luke worries me. Look at how flabby the arms are!

6" Princess Leia looks decent but I don't like that peeved expression on her face.

6" Ahsoka's face looks really off...

6" AT-AT driver looks good but the helmet seems too small (but Hasbro knows we'll rush to buy him anyway... now where's the 6" scale AT-AT walker lol :P)

6" Snowtrooper looks bad. Something about how elongated his head and body are that bugs me. I may not army build this guy after all.

Revan, which I have zero interest in, looks the best out of the lot. Ironic.
