Wampa Cave / Jedi Discrimination?

Tesco Supermarket Accused of Discriminating Against Jedis

As if it wasn’t already hard enough out there for Jedis (what with having to contend with the universe’s most evil forces imaginable), now they’ve got to worry about getting harassed by supermarket employees. According to the Guardian (via Reddit) 23-year old Daniel Jones, who founded the Church of Jediism in England, was trying to buy something for lunch from a Tesco Supermarket in Wales when he was told to either remove his hood or leave the premises.

Let’s back up for a minute here. A lot of you are probably thinking, “There’s a Church of Jediism?” Indeed there is! According to their website, , the church was founded in 2007 by several Star Wars enthusiasts. You’ll also find links on the site to engage in Jedi training courses, but most of these links are broken or incomplete. According to Time in an interview piece last year, the UK government recognizes Jedi Knights as an official religion, after 400,000 people listed it on their 2001 census forms. Jones remarked at the time, “If the government says to us ‘You can’t do that because you’re not a true religion,” we can say ‘Yes we are’ because there’s more Jedi than Scientologists in Britain.”

That all brings us to this current hooded fiasco. Jones recalled, “It states in our Jedi doctrination that I can wear headwear…You have a choice of wearing headwear in your home or at work but you have to wear a cover for your head when you are in public.” But when Tesco employees spotted a hooded Jones weaving through the aisles, they were understandably concerned.

JONES: They said: ‘Take it off’, and I said: ‘No, its part of my religion. It’s part of my religious right.’ I gave them a Jedi church business card…They weren’t listening to me and were rude. They had three people around me. It was intimidating.

Tesco responded, in perhaps the most awesome way imaginable!

TESCO: He hasn’t been banned. Jedis are very welcome to shop in our stores although we would ask them to remove their hoods…Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Luke Skywalker all appeared hoodless without ever going over to the Dark Side and we are only aware of the Emperor as one who never removed his hood…If Jedi walk around our stores with their hoods on, they’ll miss lots of special offers.

Wampa Cave / Star Wars Reflections
« on: April 24, 2009, 10:06:30 AM »

Atlanta-born artist Christian Waggoner has been creating a series of Star Wars fine art paintings for ACME Archives Direct, featuring detailed close-ups of some of the famous helmets of George Lucas’ galaxy. The idea of the series is to explore light and reflection, capturing unforgettable moments from the classic trilogy from an entirely new perspective. His newest painting, and third in the series, features a Stormtrooper with Rebel soldiers of the Tantive IV reflected in the eyes.

This painting in the collection shows Darth Vader in close-up from A New Hope, with Obi-Wan seen dueling with the dark lord’s mask.

This painting from Empire Strikes Back featured a close-up on Boba Fett, with Han Solo in carbonite reflected in his visor.

In January, it was rumored that 20th Century Fox was developing a Predator reboot titled Predators with Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios in the producers chair. Rodriguez confirmed the rumors at a news conference today at Troublemarker Studios for the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program.

The film is expected to follow a team of commandos who must face a mysterious race of vicious monsters
. That’s right, multiple Predators… not just one. Rodriguez is at his best when it comes to the intergration of special effects
into a story, and Predators might be a good arena for the filmmaker to play in. Lets just hope that Fox has hired someone good to write the script.

Wampa Cave / Newest SW Figure!
« on: March 20, 2009, 10:03:23 AM »
The newest and most sought after SW figure of all time!!!!!!!

Lets face it, LucasFilm is a whore when it comes to merchandising. I personally don’t have a problem with any company making money off of a large fanbase. If a market exists, and fans are hungry for the product, than that’s great. But I do find it kinda sickening the extent of the outer and extended universe offerings. For example, action figures of minor characters who showed up briefly in the background of a scene.  Too bad this action figure doesn’t actually exist, because sadly, I would consider buying just for the laugh factor.

I read a snippet about this on another website and thought it had to be some kind of a joke but its nowhere near April Fools Day and Variety is reporting it.....

Elton John's Rocket Pictures hopes to make the first Jane Austen adaptation to which men will drag their girlfriends.

Will Clark is set to direct "Pride and Predator," which veers from the traditional period costume drama when an alien crash lands and begins to butcher the mannered protags, who suddenly have more than marriage and inheritance to worry about.

Scientists have come a bit closer to achieving the "Star Trek" feat of teleportation.

No one is galaxy-hopping, or even beaming people around, but for the first time, information has been teleported between two separate atoms across a distance of a meter — about a yard.

This is a significant milestone in a field known as quantum information processing, said Christopher Monroe of the Joint Quantum Institute at the University of Maryland, who led the effort.
