Scout Report / SWShop.com weathered RC R2-D2s now shipping.
« on: May 12, 2007, 11:50:14 AM »
Just checked my Mastercard online statement and saw a credit to my account from the starwarsshop.com website. After checking my account with them, it appears that the remote control 3 3/4" "weathered" R2-D2s are in stock and shipping any day now. :r2d2line:

Well I crossed the border with a buddy yesterday in search of Saga 2 figures with the photo backdrop cards as well as any leftover ROTS figures.  :r2d2line:

As far as ROTS figures went, 0, zilch, nada!  :( Not a single one anywhere to be found. What a bummer.

I did manage to get a whole set of the Pit of Carkoon wave with the backdrops. And yes they are so much nicer than their canadian counterparts. :winking0071:

But the surprise of the trip was the finding of the Hoth wave! :party0053: Got all 8 of 'em. These guys are extremerly nice, especially Veers and the AT-AT driver. Derlin is OK, the Power Droid has enough do-dads added to it to classify it as a new figure, Vader is a repacked 500th figure, the Snowtrooper is a repacked saga 1 figure with battle damage on the helmet, Rieekan is repacked deluxe figure with a blaster and R2-D2 is a repacked VOTC with X-wing accessories :love0030:

Check out this link. It's a chinese site, but if you scroll down far enough, you'll see carded pics of Scorch, Sora Bulq, Utapau Clone Trooper, Poggle and Sun Fac. :winking0071:

Good news everyone. You can now pre-order Obi-Wan Kenobi's astromech droid (remote control version) at ShopStarwars.com. Unlike the R2-D2 remote control figure :r2d2line:, canadians can order this sucker no problem. Follow the link...  :r2d2: http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=104605;category_id=;pcid1=;pcid2=

I just pick this vehicle today and was SO IMPRESSED, I felt compelled to review it and share some images with you all. This has to be the BEST small ROTS vehicle to date. It's the best toy representation of a vehicle from the movie so far.

The Good:
The sculpting is very detailed. There are 4 collapsable wings that flap when the rear trigger is pulled. There is a second seat for a wookie gunner that actually has a seatbelt to secure him in (Why didn't they have this feature on the Grievous wheelbike?). The rear cannon is spring loaded and fires a projectile. The flyer also features folding landing gears.

The Bad
The handle is very tiny and hard to hold while pulling the trigger. I think it was more designed for a child's hand than say an adult. The pilot is very nice looking but suffers from a lack of articulation (only the arms move). He is sculpted in a seated position which makes it difficult to remove him from the cockpit and vice versa.

Overall, it is an awsome vehicle and should be in everyones collection!

9/10

Wampa Cave / Winner of the Gentle Giant Darth Vader Statue pic.
« on: June 18, 2005, 05:44:56 PM »
Hi there all. Here is a pic of the Comic Book Shoppe's grand prize winner with... well... his prize! Robert Mayr was the grand prize winner of the Comic Book Shoppe's Gentle Giants coldcast Darth Vader statue give away.

You may remember way back in April when this contest first began at the Comic Book Shoppe's Star Wars midnight madness sale. For every $50.00 spent on SW merchandise you received a ballot that was put into a draw for this awesome statue. Hundreds of ballots were entered and nearly 3 months later a winner was finally chosen.

Congradulation again Robert! On behalf of everybody who put this contest together, we hope you enjoy your prize.

Wampa Cave / What if Hasbro made a VNTC line? Who'd you pick?
« on: April 11, 2005, 07:44:19 PM »
What if Hasbro made a VNTC (Vintage New Trilogy Collection) in the same manner as the VOTC line. Now I know there are no vintage  figures of the new movie characters, but wouldn't they look great packed on vintage style cards? So I ask you the fans what 12 characters would you pick for a VNTC line. Here are the guidelines... You can only pick 4 characters per movie and much like the VOTC line the same character can't be represented twice. So if you pick Anakin from AOTC you can't pick him for TPM or ROTS. Got it? Give a description of the articulation and accessories that would accompany your choices. Remember to pick characters that had an impact in the trilogy much like the choices made for the VOTC line. Here are my picks...

The Phantom Menace

01) Qui-Gon Jinn: Super articulated, removable Agen Kolar type cloak, soft goods tunic and lightsabre with removable hilt.
02) Darth Maul: Super articulated with soft goods tunic, removable cloth hooded cloak and double edged lightsabre with removable blades and hilt that splits in two.
03) Jar Jar Binks: Okay, I know he's annoying, but he was a core character. He'd be super articulated with posable ears. No accessories.
04) Mace Windu: Super articulated, NO ACTION FEATURE, Agen Kolar type cloak, soft goods tunic and lightsabre with removable hilt.

Attack Of The Clones

01) Obi-Wan Kenobi: Hasbro nevber really made a good Kenobi from this movie! This one would have super articulation, NO ACTION FEATURE, Agen kolar type cloak, soft good tunic and lightsabre with removable hilt.
02) Padme Amidala: Battle dammaged from the Geonosian arena. Super articulation, with sexy naval sculpt and battle droid blaster. Hasbro's first try at this one sucked bad!
03) Jango Fett: Super articulation, both blasters, rocket firing jetpack, flame accessory and revovable helmet. It'd look great next to the VOTC Boba Fett.
04) C-3PO: Hasbro needs to make up for that VOTC abomination they made. They could just repaint the ROTS 3PO and I'd be happy.

Revenge Of The Sith

01) Anakin Skywalker: Fabric hooded cloak, soft good tunic, super articulation, NO ACTION FEATURE, dark side facial detail and lightsabre with removable hilt.
02) Emporer Palpatine: This would be the red cloaked version, but rather than plastic, the cloak would be fabric except for the hood. That would be made out of plastic and be removable much like the ROTS Emporer #12 figure. The decorative panel on the front of the cloak would be made of plastic as well. He'd be super articulated and come with his lightsabre and one bolt of dark side lightning. Remember, all this stuff has to fit in that small blister pack.
03) General Grievous: This would be the grand daddy of all the Grievous figures before it. He'd be super articulated everywhere. His arms would bend and move smoothly together as well as in split formation. He'd come with a removable cloth cape, his blaster and four lightsabres.
04) Commander Cody: I know he may not be the most impactful character, but this line needed a clonetrooper representative. I picked Cody because his armor coloration and helmet are unlike any of the existing or upcoming ROTS clone figures. He'd come with his blaster and removable helmet.

Here's a pic of Commander Cody below.

Let me know your picks for your dream VNTC line.

The Toys - Snowtrooper Reviews! / AT-RT review
« on: April 09, 2005, 02:11:24 PM »
Well it's been a week since April 2nd, so I decided to write my first review. Now I know nobody in Canada and very few people in the USA found the AT-RT (All Terrain Recon Transport), so I figured I'd give y'all the low down on this AT-ST predacessor.

Vehichle

Very nice and simple design. At first glance looks like a combination of an AT-ST and a swoop. Great sculpting detail as usual. But the defining feature has to be the motorized walking. Simply slip 2 AA batteries in the compartment directly under the driver's seat, flip the switch under the vehichle to ON and watch it go. Now mind you that it walks at a pretty slow pace, much like a wind up toy. As a matter of fact that's what Hasbro should have done... make the darn thing a wind up toy! It's mind boggling that they didn't. A simple hole and key could have done the trick. Wind that sucker up and it'd walk at the same speed.

Action Figure

Nice sculpt as well. Very different looking from all other clone troopers. The only down side is the lack of articulation. The shoulders are cut as is the head and right forearm. That's it! Nothing else! The legs are permanantly posed in a seated position. Any figure that accompanies a vehicle should have SUPER articulation not minimal movement. A ball jointed head would have given this figure more playability. Seeing as he looks so much like the Turbo Tank Driver, maybe that one will have the posibility that this one lacks. Fingers crossed!

Over all I give this small vehicle set a 7/10 and that's being generous. More articulated figures for future vehicle sets PLEASE!

Wampa Cave / Midnight Madness In Ottawa Aftermath
« on: April 03, 2005, 10:25:01 PM »
I would like to thank all of the Star Wars collectors who came out to both Comic Book Shoppes midnight madness sales.  One guy was waiting in line at the Clyde ave location for 6 hours! What a trooper! All in all about 30 to 40 people attended the west end shop's sale, not to sure of the crowd at the Bank st store, but I hear they made out pretty good. One of our volunteers was dressed as Darth Vader in a very high end quality suit complete with respirator sound effects. He along with a black stormtrooper and a jedi patroled the store taking photos with the fans. Very nice. I'd like to thank the following people for there time and effort in this much anticipated venture. Shaun, Stevens, Chris, Micheal, Stephanie, Sarah, Jean-Marc, Rico and Darth Vader.

Here are some shots of the night including some of our displays.

The Toys - Snowtrooper Reviews! / Deluxe Transforming Anakin Skywalker
« on: March 12, 2005, 06:59:13 PM »
Don't let the look of this figure fool you. Although Ani's cloak is hideous, the feature is AWESOME. Like the Grievous figure, I can not comment where I got him due to the April 2nd no sell policy.

Sculpt: Very good likeness to Hayden. Features a few scars on his face. Nice touch. Cool sculpting deatil on his clothes, boots and glove. Likewise with the Vader version.

Articulation: Cut shoulders, elbows, waist and legs. Neither version of the figure articulates at the head.

Action feature: Only really one. Anakin's head pushes into his chest so you can clip in the Vader head piece. Very solidly designed. Vader clips on snugly and comes off with a little coaxing. I was afraid that it would just pop off after some time, but it doesn't. The only other feature is the dress up feature. Ani's arms pop out at the elbow so you can pop in Darth's set. The lower jedi tucnic comes of and vader's goes on. Finally you clip on some sith shin covers and a life support unit and voila... instant sith lord.

Paint Application:Colours are what is expected. The only flaw is that when in Vader form, one can see his nifty BROWN feet. Maybe he was walking in bantha poodoo.

Accessories: Other than the dress up parts, the figure include both Anakin and Vader's respective lightsabres.

Overall a neat figure to have until I can get my hands on the standard EP 3 Vader figure. Go out and get one of these. 8/10 :-*
