Wampa Cave / Ryan Johnson to direct new Star Wars trilogy!!!
« on: November 09, 2017, 05:36:45 PM »
In the midst of all of the director firings, I guess Rian Johnson stands out as someone Lucasfilm loved working with! They announced today that he will be developing a new Star Wars trilogy, I presume taking place after Episode 9.

There will also be a new Star Wars TV show, which will be on a new Disney streaming service.

See the article in Varety here:

Wampa Cave / JJ Abrams back for Episode IX
« on: September 12, 2017, 03:37:23 PM »
As was recently posted here, another drop out in the Star Wars directing world - Colin Trevorrow is no longer doing Episode IX due to the classic "creative differences" with Kathleen Kennedy et al at Lucasfilm.

Just announced today, though - JJ Abrams will be taking the role of writer and director! Good news for some fans, bad for others. Time will tell, but immediate thoughts?

Wampa Cave / Who has their Rogue One tickets?
« on: December 07, 2016, 08:26:30 PM »
I picked up tickets last Monday for the Thursday night showing. I don't know why they say the movies are released on the Friday when they actually have showings on the Thursday...just say it is released on the Thursday :speechless-smiley-004:

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. Who else is going opening night?

Wampa Cave / Hint to Rey's parents
« on: April 17, 2016, 08:17:03 PM »
There is an article here where JJ Abrams says Rey's parents were not in episode 7!  Later, he back-pedalled and says he meant she didn't discover them in Episode 7, but not sure if he was just trying to cover his tracks.  If his first comment was true, then many fan theories have been blown out of the water!

Wampa Cave / Star Wars: Bloodline - novel about Leia
« on: February 04, 2016, 02:14:55 PM »
There is a new novel coming out soon about Leia that will take place close to the time of Episode 7, atlas some decades after ROTJ.  Just from the excerpt released on, it seems to tie in nicely with the novelization for TFA.  Here is the excerpt:

Read an excerpt from Chapter 13 of 'Star Wars: Bloodline.'
An entire generation has prospered during an era of peace. The New Republic, governed by the Galactic Senate on Hosnian Prime, has held power for more than two decades. Yet conflict has begun to take shape within the Senate. As political gridlock threatens to cripple the fledgling democracy, the quarrels of the New Republic will soon radiate throughout the galaxy. . .

The conference building of the New Republic senatorial complex contained multiple rooms appropriate for every kind of auxiliary function imaginable, from memorial concerts to awards ceremonies. Leia Organa and Tai-Lin Garr headed toward one of the smallest banquet rooms. The breakfast meeting had been organized by Varish Vicly, who couldn’t imagine a bad time for a party.
Varish came loping toward them now on all fours. “There you are! I was worried you’d be late.”
“We’re still early,” Leia protested as both she and Tai-Lin were wrapped in quick, long-limbed hugs.
“Yes, but I worry. You know how these guys get.”
“Now come along and be introduced to everyone,” Varish insisted. Soon Leia found herself shaking hands and paws, murmuring greetings; thanks to some review holos Korr Sella had prepared for her, she recognized each senator in attendance and could even ask a few pertinent questions about their families and worlds.
They entered the banquet hall together, the entire group walking two by two. Leia knew the seat at the far end of the table would be hers, guest of honor as counterpart to the host. So she walked the length of the room, attentive to the senator at her side, before glancing down at the arrangements — sumptuous even by Varish’s standards, with a velvet runner stretching along the table and delicate paper streamers lying across the tables, beneath elaborately folded napkins. Leia had to laugh. “Honestly, Varish. For breakfast?” In other words, Leia thought as she listened to someone cheerfully talk about his grandchildren, this is going wonderfully for everyone but me.
This won good-natured chuckles from the room; Varish Vicly’s lavish tastes were well known, a foible she herself joked about. Today, however, she shrugged. “I didn’t request this. Maybe the serving staff heard my name and assumed that meant to go all out.” Varish smiled as she took her seat. “If that’s my reputation . . . you know, I can live with it.”
Leia settled into her chair, picked up her napkin — and stopped.
Something was written on the paper streamer on her plate. Actual writing. Virtually nobody wrote any longer; it had been years since Leia had seen actual words handwritten in ink on anything but historical documents.
But today, someone had left this message on her plate, only one word long:
Leia shoved her chair back, instantly leaping to her feet. “We have to get out of here,” she said to the startled senators at the table. “Now. Go!”
But they didn’t move, even as she dashed toward the door. Varish said, “Leia? What in the world's —”
“Didn’t you hear me?” Damn fools who had never been in the war, who didn’t know an urgent warning when they got one. Leia held up the paper so they could see it. “Run! Everyone get up and run!”
With that, she took off, running as fast as she could, finally hearing the others stir behind her. Maybe they thought the note was only a prank, but Leia knew better. The inchoate dread that had swirled inside her all morning had solidified; this was what her feelings had been warning her about.
As they dashed through the hallways of the conference building, Leia glimpsed an alert box and swerved sideways to hit it. A robotic voice said, “No detected hazards at this — ”
“Override! Evacuation alert now!” Leia resumed running just as the warning lights began to blink and the siren’s wail sounded. Immediately people began filing out of various other rooms, mostly grumbling but at least moving toward the exits — and when they saw her, they, too, started to run. The sense of urgency built behind her like a wave cresting, preparing to crash.
Leia’s breath caught in her throat as she pushed herself harder, running full out toward the doors, so fast they almost didn’t have time to open for her. In the square beyond, security droids had begun herding people away from the building, but too many continued to mill around, staring in consternation at the scene. The others evacuating flooded through the doors behind and around her, but once they were clear of the structure, half of them stopped, remaining stupidly within range.
Within range of what? She still didn’t know. But every instinct within her told her disaster was near.
Leia didn’t stop. She kept running as hard as she could, never looking back, until . . .
Brilliant light. A roar so loud it resonated in her skull. And hot air and debris slamming into her, knocking her down, rolling her over, erasing the world.

Wampa Cave / Episode 8 delayed
« on: January 21, 2016, 07:36:05 PM »
They have announced that episode 8 has been pushed back to December 2017 instead of May 2017.  Supposedly, Ryan Johnson is doing some rewriting of the script.  Or maybe, Disney is drooling over the idea of taking in another $2 billion from a Christmas release? I hope it's the former.  I guess another 6 months won't kill me... :fight:

Well, Episode 7 is chewing through the box office records so far.  Almost $550 million in 10 days!!  Certainly makes Disney's acquisition look like a steal.

At this point, it seems almost like a foregone conclusion that it will end up as the biggest box office success of all time (Domestically, anyway, and when not adjusting for inflation).  However, how big will it go?  Movies released this time of year tend to have better staying power, with lower drops the first few weeks, and longer legs, as there are less releases at the beginning of the year.  As such, based on it's ridiculous start and comparing to the multipliers that films this time of year tend to have, it could blow away the competition and end up close to $1 billion domestically.

Although this is not my primary concern by any means, I would love to see it do well for two main reasons:

1) It would be great to see Star Wars back on top as the box office king, as they are my favourite movies by far

2) Episode 7 is, in my mind, a worthy Star Wars sequel and worthy movie of the title of box office king.  It would have been bittersweet to see any of the prequels take the crown back when they were released...

Wampa Cave / Star Wars Celebration news
« on: April 17, 2015, 11:35:37 AM »
I'm starting this to share news from Celebration Anaheim.  Feel free to chime in.

The big thing on Day 1 was the opening panel.  The trailer was awesome!  My favorite quote at the panel was when JJ Abrams got asked by a fan how he was going to please every single one of the millions of Star Wars fans out there with Episode 7.  Instead of the standard line like "you can't please everyone", he responds with "We just are"!  Rock on!

During the line to wait for the panel the night before, JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy bought several hundred pizzas for all the fans camping out.  Pretty classy IMHO.

My family and I (only the two older boys and my wife came this time) did the Bounty Hunt in the afternoon.  You are given Star Wars clues, puzzles, etc. to solve that will lead you to a bounty, and you have to get a stamp from them to show you found them.  We did pretty well - we got 9/12, but the winning team got all 12 (but there were no kids on that team).  They have one specifically for families with children on Sunday, so we may try it again.

They showed Episodes 1 and 2 in 3D last night.  Unfortunately, I didn't feel well by that point and had to leave, but my 14 year old stayed.  Tonight is Episode 3 in 3D.

Star Wars Trivia / Star Wars: A New Hope trivia
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:04:58 PM »
They have a quiz called "Star Wars Quiz" at a website called Ikwiz.  It was supposed to be quite hard trivia about episode IV, but I wouldn't go that far.  It was fun, though.
