Interesting side note - the Booklet is noted as shipping via USPS.  Do you think we'll get a charge at all for it?

And is that a sign of the Barge shipping cross-border as well?  Or are we still hopeful that it'll come from Quebec?  I'm really hoping that we'll avoid those duties...

I'm sure they're just shipping the books out via regular mail / media mail - probably just in an envelope, not by parcel mail (betting some people will receive damaged books). And even if they do send by parcel mail, they'll likely label it as free/promo material on the customs form - so no fees, since no value. For the books it makes sense to just ship them all from the States. But for the barges, they will do a bulk shipment to their warehouse here and then send out from there:

Not sure if this has been answered.  I called customer service, lady told me the plan is to ship out the Canadian orders through the warehouse in Canada.  Therefore whatever you pay at checkout (shipping and your provonical tax), should be your final cost.  There shouldn't be any import tax on top.

Ah, so I see they are exercising the "UP TO" part of the "up to 40% off".
I have a Dewback on backorder from Amazon right now for $76.79. If I can find one at TRU on sale, I'll cancel that instead.

Good time to pick up the 6" Dewback if it's on sale

I've done a paper car model like this before (very similar to the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang model he has done in the left side menu of past work). It was very intricate and took a lot of time due to needing to wait for glue drying, etc. But it was super fun.

I ran Google Translate on the page:

From the first page of instructions: the guy does all the printing on Canon matte photo paper (0.22mm thick), A4 sheet size. There is 48 pages of printing to be done. So I imagine not necessarily the cheapest to do - probably best to send off to a print place. (The translation worked very well, by the way - I can easily follow along, it didn't seem to lose anything in the process)

This is meant meant to be used for display / photo shooting. Obviously it will not hold up well as a playset. It would be fairly sturdy but there is high risk of bending/breakage on all the tiny little details especially. As a display piece or for action figure artists it is perfect. Would love to see more setups like this - Jabba's Palace and a Cantina would be great candidates!

Finished Jessica Jones S2.  It was marginally better than S1.  I still think S1 is the worst of the Netflix Marvel series.

I actually liked S2 less... Trish got really annoying by the end, as did Malcolm.
And actually for me, S1 is one of my favourite Netflix seasons so far. David Tennant can do no wrong.

The old Walmart exclusive Black Series were $17.97 as well.  It made me be very selective as to what I bought.

Me too - I bought a grand total of 1 figure from that series, the Yavin Ceremony Leia. It's the only 3.75" Star Wars figure I've bought since the end of the non-WM-exclusive Black Series until now with the return of TVC. And if I didn't already have a full 2nd carded set of previous TVC, I'd likely still be sitting on just that one 3.75" Leia for a bit yet.

Only wave 1 of Solo 5POA or was the Hoth Leia wave out as well? Thanks.

As per Yakface's helpful checklist, it looks like only wave 1 for now:

PSA regarding where to look for Solo figures today (via posts on

- Walmarts are not getting their stuff until Monday, so don't waste your time with them until next week. There may be the odd one that has had some early cases, but chain-wide they're not til Monday.

- TRU seems to have had a pretty decent selection of most lines so far today (6", TVC, Dewback, 5POA, vehicles, etc)

- ebgames also has 6", TVC, Dewback

So if you're looking for new stuff today, hit TRU or ebgames.

...However, the rep told me that they are now charging my cc on April 25...

If that's the case for everyone, I'm happy. Puts it off my CC bill for another month yet. Gives me more time to come up with an excuse to give the wife!  :scared0008:

Wonder if people who bought extras in the hopes of helping to get it to 5000 will now start cancelling an order or two

I hope they use Haslab for some smaller stuff in the future. I really don't need more large items in my collection. But if they can use it for some obscure stuff or modular playsets or things like that, it would be ideal.

I know they have stated that they plan to stick to one item a year, but I think they should try to do two - or rather, 2 separate series:

1. A modular playset with campaign opening at Christmas (can use gift money, etc to save up!), and delivery in the following December in time for the next Christmas. I would try to keep the cost on these lower, maybe around $100 a set. Something a bit smaller that long-time collectors can count on every year, and slowly piece together something larger. Maybe a Death Star in 3 parts, Cantina in 2 parts, Jabba's Palace in 2 parts, etc.

2. A larger, standalone item in the summer - maybe could be timed with SDCC in July to kick off the campaign, with delivery the following summer. This way collectors who are a little more choosy can pick up a nice single item that they may want, or pass if it's something they don't want. More of a one-off purchase, with a greater possibility of grabbing new or casual collectors as well. Something for those who don't want to invest in the modular playsets for the long haul. I'm thinking large vehicles (Sandcrawler anyone?), and maybe every few years do a special kind of themed figure set that includes several sought-after obscure characters (super-background Cantina aliens; Jabba's Palace/Barge denizens; etc) - including lots of assorted accessories that can be used in dioramas. Or maybe it makes more sense to part these sets out with their related playset pieces from #1 above.

One rule - focus on OT items only! Maybe a rare PT item that people would be really interested in. NO sequel junk. Leave that stuff to rot on the retail shelves.

OK 2 rules - even though I love the 6" figures, these need to stay exclusive to the 3.75" line and continue the Vintage Theme.

I just realized that I may have to book a vacation day or two in the first week of March next year so I can wait with my face pressed to the window for Canada Post to deliver the BARGES that I BACKED!!!

(Not forgetting the YAK!)

I'm ready for ya HasLab.....Bring it!!

I've read online of people having their credit card or Paypal orders canceled because they've 'timed out' since the initial confirmation and the upcoming 'charge'...  is that something we should be worried about?  I've pre-ordered stuff with a credit card on Amazon before months in advance, and it just keeps the order and charges when it's in stock... shouldn't it be the same deal here?

I think it's a PayPal thing. I believe they have a 30-day "timeout" period where if the money is not collected by the vendor, PayPal cancels the transaction. I assume plain credit card transactions will be different as those would not get rung thru until the day Hasbro collects on the funds. However with those, there is always the secondary problem of expired cards and/or insufficient credit.

Did  any of you guys read anything in the last few weeks that Hasbro's value has nearly doubled the value of Mattel?  There were some rumblings that Hasbro might try to buy or do a hostel take over of Mattel.

The only thing I read about them was that all their stocks had fallen on the news of TRU liquidation, including Hasbro's, Mattel's, etc. Some more than others.

TRU Canada is mentioned in this article:

I can't read that article behind the pay wall, but here's another:

They are looking to spin off the stronger Canadian branch to a new buyer, and possibly some of the best-performing US stores, with the new company to be run out of Canada. Interesting and hopeful, we'll see how this all plays out.

It was good. Not super-great as the hype would have you believe, but pretty solid and enjoyable as most Marvel movies are. I appreciated that it was fairly true to the comics, particularly the Christopher Priest run (which is excellent), and where they made changes they did not bother me. 4/5
