Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Re: STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII - THE LAST JEDI
« on: January 10, 2018, 07:35:59 PM »
Saw it again last night (regular...I'm going to have to get to an IMAX screening before it is gone!).

Still really really like it. Was worried the fact I last saw it with my kids might have had an undue influence on me!

I was actually impressed by how they handled Rey/Luke. How subtle it actually was. I realized I had assumed Luke sensed Rey at the end of TFA. And so much of his discovery of her powers went over my head! He just sees her as an envoy of Leia until she goes to the tree on her own and even then he doesn't really know how much power she contains. I also think Luke works in the context of his character just fine. I think he was perhaps more scarred by his experiences than we all realized. It was pretty heavy what he went through, a lot of responsibility and sense of duty was dumped on him and...he started to succumb since he is human and his failure with Ben/Kylo really broke him (he was indecisive at precisely the wrong time and it cost him his nephew and all his other students (except those that left with Kylo).

My least favorite section remains the Canto Bight stuff. It just feels like it wasn't pushed as far as it could have been towards something more "realistic" rather than caricatured and that it got dumbed-down for kids for no good reason...kids would have been cool with it if it had been less Disney-romp-esque I think and cooler overall, darker in some ways.

100% agree with all you said. That's exactly how I feel with the Luke-Rey scenes. As well as the Canto Bight sequence who definitely is the weakest sub-plot of the movie. The whole Fathiers sub-plot and the way Rose preaches to Finn, focusing on animals treatment rather than being angry and motivated with vengance after the death of her sister really troubled me. The whole "Fathier escape run" leading to the green valley ending scene felt like a Harry Potter kinda storyline. Not something one would expect in a Star wars movie. It was simply too light toned for the movie and way too childish for SW in general. The worse part in any SW movie IMHO. Far worse than Jar Jar sticking out his tongue, almost equal to the farting scene of TPM.

Nonetheless, I watched the movie 4 times, the first two within the first 6 hrs on December 14-15, then with my oldest daughters (16 & 18yo) and last Saturday with my youngest two daughters (7 and 9 yo). I have to say it's better with each viewing. The bad parts are not improving, but the good parts are getting better. :) Not my top movie, but not my worse.

Patrick, do you want help securing one of these sets?
I can buy one, and even hold it for up to 45days, do a price adjustment if there is a sale, and wait for 45 days just in case TRU.ca puts them up and your able purchase one yourself (so you get free shipping).
Im happy to help.

Hi! That'd be awesome! If you could do that it's be cool! I'm actively looking for this set, hoping that I'll find it one day at a nearby store. Let's keep in touch, I'll let you know if I ever find one on my end, but I'd certainly take the one you buy for me. :-)

Ok, JediPatrick.
When I secure one I will let you know and send you a picture. And will hold for 45 days to allow you time to find one online or at your location.  :u:

Wow! A huge thanks for this help! This is really nice! :-) :)` I'm getting desperate to ever find this set in my area. Been looking for this for the past 3-4 weeks, ever since it was made available on the website, without success. Your help is greatly appreciated. :)

Damn, missed this one. Was really looking for this. Where did you get it?

I'm still hoping for a sale within this month so I can price adjust mine.  $60 for this set is just crazy high.

Makes sense, especially when they were on discount at 30% off before Xmas on the TRU.ca website, but none were in stock, was kinda frustrating. I would do the same.

JediPatrick, I saw four at my local TRU yesterday. I'm in Ontario, east of Toronto area. I have seen them come and go two or three times now. I'm sure you will see them soon, and hopefully on sale.

I sure hope, but honestly when I see the amount of stuff warming the pegs, and the lack of interest for these products since Sept.1st, I don't see the day when this will happen. I know there's one another Force Link Starter pack scheduled in April 2018 for the Solo movie, so there's so much a store which is on the brink of bankruptcy is willing to take and I think this product will be either very limited or not even ordered at Quebec stores. The fact that it's been removed from the website certainly does point out to that...

Lucky you! This never appeared at retail in Quebec as far as I know. Pegs at TRU are still warming with the first Force Link starter set with Kylo Ren. I see no way for the newer version to ever find its way to stores here... 😕😕

Can this pack still be found in your area?

Nice! I've done the same with the 5PAO "2-blades" guard that comes in the 2-pack with Rey. Bought a 2nd set, trimmed the neck peg and could fit the helmet back. Just used some putty to enhance the neck peg of the SA figure.

By the way, where did you get that Force Link Bracelet 2-pack with the Executioner and the Praetorian Guard with the whip-sword? This thing is a TRU exclusive and it's noweher to be found in Quebec. It was listed on the TRU.ca website but never in stock. I'm desperate to get this thing just to get the guard and its weapons.

Did you buy this locally? Or thru TRU.com in the USA?

JediPatrick:

That ship you made with your daughters is pure magic.  Love it.
Take lots of pictures and video of your kids playing with it.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays with your family and have a great New Years.

Thanks! Indeed, I wasn't expecting my daughters to even play with these dolls. I bought them but was worried they wouldn't even want to open them and pondered for a while about reimbursing them and finding something else for XMas. So glad I didn't. Now we're doing a SW movie watching marathon. LOL We have to stop today as we'll be celebrating the e Year, but tomorrow we're good to watch ANH!  ;D :artoo:

Merry XMas and a Happy New Year to all!  :)` :u:

Got a few Star Wars gifts (well... to be honest most of my gifts were Star Wars themed ;D ).

- Star Wars The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary
- Star Wars The Art of The Last Jedi
- Hasbro Tie Silencer
- Hasbro Resistance Ski Speeder
- Star Wars Rebels Season 3 - Bluray
- Metal Earth AT-ST model
- Metal Earth Slave I model
- TLJ Rey Candy Pez
- TLJ Praetorian Guard Candy Pez
- TLJ Lego AT-M6 mini-model
- Some chocolate treats
- Rogue One 12" value figures: Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, Death Trooper, Stormtrooper, Darth Vader

My daughters got some Forces of Destiny dolls. Leia Endor with Wicket for one, Rey and BB-8 for the other. I kinda expected they would not want play with them since they don't have any SW figures at all. But they were a smash.

Quite unexpectedly, these were really the highlight of their XMas this year. To a point where they asked me to go and get 2 more with part of the money they got from their grandparents. So I bought them Jyn Erso and Sabine Wren on December 26th to complete the lot. I also gave them those 12" value figures I got from my father. So they now have bad guys to go with their dolls. :-)

One cool thing: on the evening of December 25th, they started working on a cardboard spaceship for their dolls. I let them organize themselves, looking at how they worked things out, glueing boxes together and cutting seats for the pilot pod and beds in the storage area. I helped them the next morning, secured everything with a hot glue gun and shaped the wings and engines. My daughters wanted to draw the Rebel symbol, so I helped them with these.

Result is quite nice. So proud of my daughters on this. And really enjoy looking at them play with their dolls. :-)

We're now rewatching all the Star Wars saga. My 7yo didn't see any episodes apart from E1 and E7. They really want to go see E8, we're planning that for January 6th, so I told them we needed to watch all the episodes before that time. We've watched E1-E2-E3, now we're watching Rogue One tonight.

A side note. Watching SW with kids brings a whole lot different perspective. I think people (and mostly hardcore SW fans) need to step back a little and view these movies for what they were intended to be: fun stuff. Everyone take these WAY too seriously. I also had my doubts watching TLJ on the first viewing. At the third viewing, this time with my oldest two daughters (16yo and 18yo) I can say I really enjoyed it a lot, except the Fathiers scene, and my daughters enjoying it more than they did for any other SW movie tells me the main audience for these movies has now shifted towards a younger audience. My daughters really loved The Last Jedi. The humor, the scenes, the storytelling. They say it's much more actual then all those old boring SW movies that have no pace and rhythm at all.

So guys, let me tell you one thing: Star Wars is evolving. We old timers are not the main audience anymore. Accept it. Evolve. Else you're gonna be like those old grumpy grandpas who keep telling youngsters their own time was far better than nowadays.  ;D

Star Wars is telling us something. But most fans fail to listen.

Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.  ;) :tongue0024:

Online Shopping - Who's Got the Hot Items??? / Re: Amazon.ca Updates
« on: December 21, 2017, 08:29:00 PM »
Just had a price match at TRU in store for the BB-8 Force Link Mega Playset. Price in store was 299.99$. But on Amazon.ca, the price was 121.80$ with free shipping.

So needless to say, the Store Manager was called to the cash register, tried to argue that it was probably not the same product, but had to concede the point. And I stepped out of the store with a 300$ product pruchased for a low 122$.

First time I try to pull out something like this. It worked. Was quite happy.  ;D

I will admit I do not own one Porg.  My army is lead my Grand Admiral Thrawn.   Do Porg taste like chicken ?   My army needs to eat.  :D

Honestly, I dunno what Porgs taste like. I would never eat these. I feed them to my Rancors and my Rathtars.  :P

I feel it is a safe bet that my Grand Galactic Army of 3.75 Hasbro Empire Figures is one of, if not the largest in the World.   And most definitely the largest in Canada

Worship me JediPatrick - become a true believer.   :love0030: :love0030:

I need to see. Not because I don't believe you (of course!), but merely because I wanna know my enemy so I can launch my own Grand Army upon it. And by the way, my Army is led by Great Generals. Not Jedi. Porgs. Yeah, my Empire is led by Grand Admiral Porg, and all are subordinate to Supreme Leader Porg. There is also a Kylo Porg. He shoots lightsabers from his eyes. :P
