Off Topic / Third party vendors on
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:47:03 AM »
Hello folks,

I thought I let you know of a recent experience I had with amazon.  I found a TVC SW figure for the reasonable price of $9.99 (suggested retail price).  This was being sold by a third-party vendor through amazon.  Although the shipping was quite steep to Canada ($17.00, to be precise), I decided to bite the bullet and get the figure, since it is no longer being sold in Canada, and the price was decent.

Transaction went through without a problem.  The next day, I got an email from the vendor, notifying me that the card had a small crease on one corner - I replied it was ok, since I was planning to open it anyways.

Two days later my transaction got cancelled from the vendor.  To my surprise, the figure got re-listed, this time, 6 times more expensive.  I called amazon, and they told me that vendors could do this, without any penalty.  Also, you can't leave any feedback on cancelled transactions, so I can't even tell the world these guys aren't a serious merchant that are not willing to honour a sale contract.

Disappointing, but now I know better.  Moral of the story - I'll never buy from a third-party vendor via amazon ever again, because it can well be a waste of my time.

and a single Gammie who went home with me

Thanks for the heads up buzo!
hey, no sweat, I'm glad you scored one too.  I ended up at another Chapters today; had my two kids and didn't want to be stuck in rush traffic with them on the back, so I pulled into this Chapter by the highway.  Nothing exciting: tons of ice cream maker dudes and a couple of bespin guards, $5 each.  Frankly, they're so lame I wouldn't take'm even if they were free.

That is an interesting assortment of characters there.  Nice score on the Gammie, I can't believe their was one of those still available anywhere at retail.  You might now official be the last person on the planet to pick up that figure at a retail outlet.  All the other figures you listed are also great, much better than the standard TPM pegwarmers that are left anywhere else.  Had you checked this location for figures recently or ever before to know if they were recently put out or have been there forever?
Yeah, it was kind of an accident, since I wasn't really looking for SW figures (went to this Chapter looking for a present for my daughter).  I don't usually check this location often (once every couple of months); in the past I had seen a couple of Woofs and Rebel Commandos (along with a few other legacy collection figs), but I had never seen any of the other figures at this location, so I would assume they got them out recently.

Vader by far.  In particular, I like his management skills:

1) if you don't give me the answer I want, I'll choke you to death
2) if you're incompetent, I'll choke you to death
3) if you complain too much, I'll choke you to death, but if someone intervenes, I'll choke you until you spit a yellow ball

Nicely done mate.  I like your third picture the most.  I don't really know what Mara Jade is supposed to look like (totally ignorant of EU) but your custom fig looks way better than the original transvestite version.

Thanks for sharing.

It has definitely made me realize that the TVC packaging kept the line feeling fresh, like we were getting more bang for our buck and getting figures on vintage cards we wished we'd had as kids (if you were a kid then I mean).

Sinkie, I couldn't have said it any better.  The TVC took me back 30 years ago, and awoke the feelings of excitement/anticipation of popping an awesome star wars figure out of the card.  So the packaging/sculpting/articulation made it an easy decision.  For me, ultimately, it is that "feeling" what I'm really buying, and none of the other lines have given me that yet (specially not the black series).  So for me it's been pretty easy to ignore all other lines thus far...

That's awesome. For a brief second I thought it was the dead star, but I quickly realized it was r2.

I doubt I can match this one, but if I have time this week, I may try to carve something.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a decent team to me, and given that the bar is pretty low (episodes I to III), I still have high hopes.

We'll see...

The Vintage Collection (TVC) / Sandtrooper VC112
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:24:40 PM »
Finally I got around to open a Sandtrooper I got about a month and a half ago:

This is figure VC112 - I was reluctant to buy it because it seemed to be mostly a re-paint of VC14, but I got a pretty sweet deal on a MOC figure, and since I was going to pay for shipping for other figures anyways, I bought it.

I gotta a say I was pleasantly surprised once I got it, and even more impressed once I got it out of the card.  The painting is absolutely fantastic.

Highly recommended.
