Wampa Cave / Anthony Daniels on CP24
« on: August 28, 2011, 09:00:59 PM »
Saw Anthony Daniels on CP24 yesterday. Very light interview with not much new info. Seems like a fun guy and you've gotta love how he's embraced his star wars fame. One thing interesting he did say he thinks he'll be wearing the 3PO costume again hopefully very soon. Can't remember the exact wording, but thought it was interesting. Anyone know what it might be for?

Sports / McFarlane Cooperstown 8 - Have they shown up in Canada?
« on: August 15, 2011, 10:33:36 PM »
Anyone know? I don't really collect baseball figures except for the odd one (I have Nolan Ryan and Carlos Delgado). I would like an Oakland A's Rickey Henderson. He was always my favourite non-blue jay. Even though he was infuriating to watch against the jays, you had to love his base stealing abilities and the way he could just take control of a game. He and Robbie Alomar were probably the two most exciting players I've ever seen play. And even though he wasn't at his peak as a Jay it was fun to watch him then as well.

Anyways, I just found out there was a figure of him released (February according to the mcfarlane site), but I've never seen this wave in stores. Has this wave hit retail in Canada?

So, let me know, I'm curious. And why do you or don't you? I'm on the Go train most days now and I find podcasts and audio books are what get me through my commutes. Star Wars wise, I mainly listen to the star wars action review for collectibles and the forcecast. They each have their pros and cons, imo, but I'll save that for later. I'm curious on other people's thoughts on these and any other ones they like. Also, I get the sense that the hosts from SWAN and the Forcecast have some form of rivalry or dislike of one another. They never reference each other directly, and I've heard veiled references from time to time that give the impression that there's a bit of tension there. Anyone else notice that?

Non-Star Wars Toys / GI Joe 30th Anniversary/PoC/Renegades 2011-2012
« on: April 02, 2011, 09:47:37 PM »
I decided to start a new thread, since Hasbro is sort of merging the PoC, Renegades and the 30th (Formerly 25th) Anniversary lines into one. The US Joe con is going on this weekend, and some pics have surfaced.

Here's some links:

Easily the hilite of the show. Well, for me anyways.

Definitely more new stuff than I expected. Very cool stuff.

For someone who has complained about the look of renegades, I have to admit the renegades figures look great, for the most part. CC is probably the weakest, but overall they really do look great. I'll likely pass on all the renegades stuff, but awsome for the fans of the toon. Tunnel rat's head sculpt reminds me of captain minh. Could make for an easy custom. And oddly the renegades storm shadow puts both PoC storm shadows to shame. Very nice figure. Might be the only renegades figure I pick up.

The $30 price point on the skystriker is pleasantly surprising. Wasn't planning on getting one, but maybe if I can get it at retail for around that price. the starscream version will likely be a pass for me at $80.

The anniversary figures all look AMAZING Really really impressed with the likes of Lifeline, sci-fi, techno-viper, zarana, etc.
Kwinn is the ultimite though. His head sculpt looks a little off maybe for some reason, but that's just nitpicking. Yay for Kwinn!!! Thank you Hasbro! Now bring on Dr. Venom, Billy, Gen Flagg, the Oktober Guard...

Feedback H-N / Mando Force

Mando Force and I made a deal and it worked out great. He was patient with me and was great with communication and I am very pleased to have my figures. Definitely would deal with him again. Yet another positive experience dealing in the snowtroopers community!

Other Movies - Music - TV Entertainment / G.I. Joe Renegades
« on: November 28, 2010, 10:09:12 AM »
This premiered in the US on Hasbro's new HUB network. It is coming to Canada on I think teletoon sometime in the future. But right now it's on youtube:

I have really low expectations for this cartoon. The character designs and look of the animation in previews is absolutely terrible. Mind you, I realize I'm not the target audience, so my tastes in look and style are different than what they're going for. But still. Blech!!

Minor spoilers:

So, I checked it out and surprisingly not bad. The character designs and horribly angled blocky look of the characters are still terrible, but overall the cartoon is not bad. Watching it on youtube makes it hard to really judge the animation though. I thought the bioviper story was lame, but the overall premise and the character interactions seemed not too bad. The only character that I thought was way off the mark was mindbender. He reminded me more of an evil doogie howzer than mindbender. Or perhaps a much younger Dr. Venom. But I think we need to drop preconceptions of the characters and their traits, which is hard to do. It's a tough balance. Stray too far, and there's no point in keeping the character's name. Too much the same and you're just telling the same stories over again. Interestingly they seemed to borrow bits and pieces from various joe continuities, both in story and in characters. Anyways, overall, not bad. Hopefully kids will enjoy it and it will breathe some new life into the Joe franchise and we'll get some more cool toys.

Wampa Cave / Thank you Hasbro Canada!

Seriously, we always bag on them for not bringing stuff in and making questionable decisions, but someone at Hasbro Canada is looking after us lately! Look at all the exclusives we're getting here!

Attack on Hoth
Defence of Hoth
Vintage AT-AT
Vintage TIE
Vintage snowspeeder
TIE Bomber

And that's just the OT stuff, I don't follow all the CW and prequel stuff, so there's probably more. Heck even the con exclusives made it to the Canadian con this past summer. While not helpful to everyone, it certainly helped some of us Canadians.

Plus we've got the big ticket Slave I set, the Cloud Car, and all kinds of other goodies. For a change it has been a really fun (and bloody expensive!!) time to be a SW collector north of the border. Some of it we're even getting before our American brothers and sisters. It may or may not be a conscious effort from someone at HasCan, perhaps it's the retail climate, and/or perhaps the retailers are helping drive this influx. My guess it's a combination of the above. But it has to be hard for HasCan to balance supply and demand in a nation with 1/10 the population of the US, while trying to get us all the product that's available from Hasbro US.

Bottom line is, I appreciate all this stuff being made available to us, so I say thanks to the powers that be for bringing in some really cool stuff. Not to mention it's Thanksgiving. ;)

Off Topic / Netbooks
« on: September 03, 2010, 09:43:51 AM »
Hey folks,

I'm looking to get a netbook for my wife. Mainly so she has something to surf the net and do minor things with while I'm on the computer. Portability is nice, and they seem to be pretty cheap. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm talking low end, not something powerful. I noticed futureshop has one on sale right now. And if i spend $300 after taxes at futureshop with my airmiles amex i get a $50 gift card, so this seems to be my best deal at the moment. Basically I'd be getting it for $210 +tax Anyone have any thoughts? Here's the link to the one I'm looking at:

Anyone else stoked about this new series by HBO? Word is it will be one season for each novel. Haha, if the show is a success, they'll run out of novels before Martin finishes Dance with Dragons! Anyways, if the TV show is anything close to the books, it will be brilliant.

Here's the teaser. LOTR fans will be happy to see Boromir. :) My god man, can you believe it's been nine years since FOTR? 10th anniversary next year. Wow! Anyways, on to Game of Thrones:

Edited: title amended in case anyone else is in love with this story & hasn't chimed in yet! - jj

It appears Hasbrotoyshop will now ship to Canada, (found out on but it will cost an additional fee of $25 on top of their regular shipping rate!

From their FAQ:
Shipping Options
We offer you three shipping options to meet your needs when shipping in the contiguous US and two options for shipments to Canada. Consider how quickly you would like to receive your order to help you choose a shipping option. Currently, our shipping options are as follows (please allow extra shipping time for orders delivered to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands)and note that an additional fee of $20 applies to shipments outside of the contiguous US and an additional fee of $25 for shipments to Canada:

Seriously what's the point? $25 extra to ship to Canada? After all this time figuring out how to do it, this is what they've come up with?

Hey everyone, I don't post too much personal stuff on the boards, but can't help but share my news with everyone here. My wife just gave birth to our first baby on Sunday. Mum and baby are both doing well, we just got home from the hospital yesterday. Very exciting times, as I know my life is changed forever!  :party0053: :) :D Can't do enough smileys...

Feedback A-G / Darth McAdam
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:01:50 PM »
Made a trade with Darth McAdam and it went absolutely smoothly. He's yet another great snowtrooper to deal with! Highly recommended!  :)` :)`

Hey folks,

Just wondering of anyone can confirm what McQuarrie figures cames out on Canadian Cards last year. Here's my list, which I know for sure:

Stormtrooper UGH
Boba Fett
Boba Fett UGH
Chewbacca UGH
Darth Vader
Starkiller Hero

Now the following I'm not aware of, so can anyone confirm that these do not exist on Canadian Cards?

Han Solo
Rebel Trooper
General McQuarrie

Also, did the Saga 2004 McQuarrie stormtrooper ever come out on a Canadian Card? I don't believe he did, but would like to confirm if he did or didn't.

Thanks. :)

Wampa Cave / Met Hasbro Canada Rep at Canadian Joe Meet
« on: April 20, 2008, 08:52:52 AM »
I posted this in a thread in the Ontario forum, but thought I'd post it here since lots of folks may not see it there. I met the Hasbro Canada rep at the Canadian Joe meet yesterday, here's my post with a few additional comments:

Hasbro Canada Booth: Another really nice guy, I chatted with him several times while I was there. It turns out he is our contact for the Q&A, so was able to chat him up about the star wars line as well. He didn't come out and say anything, but I'm thinking the BMF is indeed coming to Canadian retail, but no word on price or exactly when. I asked why so hush hush, especially now since the pics are online and it doesn't seem to be an exclusive, and he said he thinks they wanted it to make a splash over and above the clone wars hype. It sounds like those pics on galactic hunter were not leaked on purpose.

The booth itself was limited to a survey/draw and the first ever showing of 2008 Wave 5 GI Joe figures. They look freakin amazing! I took some pics (a bit blurry):

The draw is to win the first wave of GI Joe vehicles (which are coming to canadian retail  ) - HISS, VAMP, Trubble Bubble etc.

He also said he's amazed at the level of detail in some of the questions they get from us, and he's been really pleased with the Q&A.

Also of note, he said they have boat loads of Lucas stormtroopers sitting around and that is exactly why they have a hard time justifying bringing in various offers/product to us Canadians. And he said they can't even do anything with them because of the contract with lucasfilm. I didn't as him, but maybe those stickers are still good to try and send away with! Thankfully they are now able to bring offers to us through Hasbro US (Captain Rex, Indiana Jones etc.). I made sure he knows how appreciative we are of that.

He also mentioned he'd be surprised if Hasbrotoyshop is available to Canadians in May as scheduled, but they are definately working on it. Just some logistical things to sort out. I asked him if he could pass along that they need to use USPS as a shipping option because of the ridiculous brokerage fees associated with couriers. I mentioned I purposely avoid because of their limited shipping options. He said they do want to get it right and not tick people off with glitches once it's up and running, so here's hoping.

Again, it was great chatting with him about the toy industry and distribution. He says they really try and get all the figures up here, but it depends on demand from both customers and retailers. It sounds like they've been having a hard time getting canadian retailers to embrace the GI Joe line. Anyways, I think we should appreciate the effort Hasbro canada goes to to get figures into Canada. They really do try.

Wampa Cave / Future Mail-aways to be available to Canadians
« on: February 13, 2008, 10:33:38 AM »
The folks a had a Q&A with Hasbro Canada and got some answers regarding Joes in Canada.

One in particular should be of interest to us SW collectors. When asked about the Doc mailaway figure they said they have come up with a solution to rectify the problem for Canadians. Starting with Indy and Star Wars, we will be able to send away for figures offered in the US. Definitely good news!

I think the Indy forms were shown online at illustrating this, but it's good to hear hasbro confirm this is the case from now on.  :party0053:
