Wampa Cave / On Force Friday, what should I expect?
« on: August 19, 2015, 12:19:46 PM »
So, I've gotten over my sticker shock (see and I've decided to treat myself, have some fun and buy a whole bunch of toys.
Unfortunately, I've made so odd choices lately including completely avoiding mostly anything spoiler-related which means I haven't read any reports about what to expect in stores on Force Friday.

Can anyone help me out with my budgeting?

I'd like to pick up everything 3.75" even if it's 5POA. Anyone know how many distinct figures are expected to be available initially?

Wampa Cave / Sticker Shock
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:28:53 PM »
So I'm browsing Rebelscum and I see a post with some price stickers for TFA stuff and it suddenly occurred to me that Hasbro may have finally priced itself out of my reach. $10 for 5PA? $15 for black series? I just can't to that. Maybe one or two ever, but certainly not 20+ of these.

I've been a little out of the loop on pricing lately since there hasn't been much for me to buy this year, but these are shocking prices. This sucks too 'cause my son has really gotten in to playing with collection and I was looking forward to adding a bunch of new stuff next month. There's just no way I can afford this.

Anyway, I'm legitimately upset by this and just wanted to vent a little.

Scout Report / Instant discount coupon for Black Series 6"
« on: July 25, 2015, 06:51:32 PM »
I found this while browsing at Toys R Us this week. A sticker on 6" Leia or Greedo figures with an automatic $10 price reduction. These look like Hasbro-issued stickers, not a TRU discount. Each sticker is limited directly to the figure it was attached to and is valid until January.

I've never seen anything like this before.

Wampa Cave / Box office
« on: June 17, 2015, 11:59:44 PM »
So, I'm reading that Jurassic World made a record-setting amount of money this weekend and this got me thinking about TFA and what kind of box office is reasonable to expect for it.
If it tracks something like The Phantom Menace, it should make insane amounts of money after inflation and 3D are taken in to account (like $600M+ domestic). However, it's going to be the first Star Wars movie to ever open in December.
How do you think that'll affect its total box office? I know I'll be there to see it on opening day, but I'm wondering if crappy weather and holiday distractions make December a less than ideal time to release a movie.

Wampa Cave / Force Friday Midnight Madness

Looks like they're planning a midnight release in September for the Force Awakens stuff. I wonder if this will happen in Canada.

Wampa Cave / Looking for some support
« on: March 13, 2015, 12:19:53 AM »
I've been thinking about something for a while that's been bothering me.

I'm hoping someone here will listen, offer some advice and maybe commiserate a little.

I have a problem.

I'm not excited about the new Star Wars movies.

There... I said it.

I was excited for Episode 7 when I heard that they were going to make it, but over the last couple of years, something changed for me. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but I can think of two things that are nagging on me:

1) I don't like that they're not using Lucas's drafts for the sequels. I think this makes me feel a bit like these are just going to be glorified fanfic
2) This one is kinda stupid maybe, because I really enjoy Rebels ... but I had a conversation with my 5-year-old son the other day where we were trying to justify why Luke was so special if Asoka, Ezra, Kanan and maybe other Jedi are running around the universe. It's just bugging me. I don't have any faith that Disney will "deal with" those characters in the only way I'd find satisfying (hint: they don't survive).

So, yeah ... not sure what I'm trying to say with this post. Just that I found myself kinda depressed tonight that my lifelong passion for Star Wars may be fading just as the movies are about to come back big-time.

Anyone else out there feeling the same?

Vintage Kenner (1978-1985) / Where can I buy Protech Star Cases?
« on: February 15, 2015, 09:07:05 PM »
I was thinking of changing up the way that I display my vintage carded collection and I've decided I need some Protech Star Cases.

Unfortunately, all I'm finding online are US-based sellers that change an exorbitant amount for shipping.

Anyone know of any Canadian-based retailers that sell Star Cases?

Non-Star Wars Toys / Identifying an *old* toy
« on: December 12, 2013, 10:11:51 PM »
My aunts found this ancient photo of my dad... probably taken in the 50's... of him playing with a new toy on Christmas morning.
My dad claims it's some kind of "cowboys and indians" playset. He thinks, maybe, an "Alamo" set.

Anyway, I'd love to identify the exact toy. Firstly, if you recognize this, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm wondering if anyone on here knows of any antique toy collector forums that maybe I could ask.

When I was a kid, probably from 5-10 years old, I would visit my grandmother's house a few times a year. She lived in a modest house and didn't have many things to keep a young boy interested. She did, however, keep on hand a copy of the 1980 Sears Canada Christmas Wishbook. She knew that I liked to look at the pictures and usually had it out for me whenever I came over. I would often browse through the pages, reading the descriptions of the various toys and fantasize about which ones I'd like to own. Collectively, I probably spent hours looking over those pages.

When my grandmother passed away, I specifically asked if I could keep the copy of that catalogue. Unfortunately, the family members who handled her estate weren't aware of my sentimental attachment to an old thing like that and so it wasn't kept.

I've been watching eBay and looking through yard sales for years, trying to get another copy. Fortunately, I was able to acquire a copy off eBay a few months ago. I've really enjoyed looking through the pages again and it has brought back many fond memories. The book, being 30+ years old, is a little musty and my allergies kind of act up when flipping the pages. So, I thought I'd scan a few of my favourite sections.

If you're interested, I've included a link to several pages here:
There's two pages of Star Wars, some Star Trek, Micronauts, Lego, etc.

Jedi Archives / Making of Star Wars book
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:30:17 PM »
A shot in the dark here, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with something...

When I was a kid (early '80s), my local library had a small hardcover "Making of Star Wars" kind of book. It wasn't very big, about 6"x8", and probably a maximum of 100 pages. It had a predominantly blue cover and covered only the original Star Wars (ANH). My memories are really fuzzy and I wish I had more details, but, anyway, I'm hoping a Star Wars book collector will read this and be able to identify this book from my crappy description.

So, yeah, anybody have any idea what the name of the book is that I'm talking about?

Customs / Anybody make their own blaster?
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:35:00 PM »
I've been looking in to building my own Stormtrooper blaster and I was wondering if anyone else out there has given this a try. Specifically, I'm wondering where you're getting the parts from.

I've been looking at a variety of tutorials like from here: and here:

Long story short, I took a look at a couple of stores this past week (Home Depot, Rona, Lowes) and couldn't really find many of the parts I'd need. For example, the PVC pipe I found was all too big and each store had really crappy selection of fittings and such.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions... I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

The High End: Replicas & Statues / Stormtrooper Helmet
« on: March 19, 2010, 11:58:35 PM »
I've been thinking about pickup up a Stormtrooper helmet. I've been getting in to higher-end collectibles lately and this is one piece I'm thinking would really be a highlight in my collection.

I'd like to get the best quality piece available, but I really don't know much about this area of collecting. Plus, I'm a bit lazy, so I'd be willing to pay a little more for 'instant' gratification -- I mean, if I could walk in to a store tomorrow or order something online, I'd probably go that route.

I did some looking on eBay and I'm seeing stuff by Rubies, eFx, Master Replicas and others... I see a variety of helmets being sold as deluxe, LE, stunt, crash, etc. but I don't really know what I'm looking for.

So, my question, I guess, would be either: Can someone tell me the definitive edition of stormtrooper helmet that I should be looking for? Or, otherwise, where can I go to educate myself on the choices.

Off Topic / Vacation homes in Orlando
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:31:28 PM »
I'm going to Orlando this winter for a little vacation. There are 7 of us going down and we're looking in to renting a vacation home, rather than staying in a hotel.

Has anyone had a good or bad experience with a particular place? I'm not really sure what area of Orlando I should be looking in, nor am I familiar with the good rental companies.

I'd appreciate some pointers from anyone with firsthand experience.

Anybody heard of any Star Wars-related discounts on Boxing Day this year? Something at TRU, perhaps?

Scout Report / Turbo Tank - $75 at Walmart
« on: December 22, 2009, 11:31:17 AM »
Found the Turbo Tank on clearance at an Ontario Walmart for $75 today. Not sure if this price is available at all Walmarts, but it might be worth checking your local store.
