Well, I'm here in my hotel room in LA.
I'm going to be driving down to San Diego on Thursday (and so will begin the vacation part of the trip!) and I'm hoping to hit a whole wack of stores along the way.
I'd love to find a Target exclusive clone trooper, but I'm sure they're hard to find. I'm going to try to pick up multiples of anything new or exclusive that I run across.
I'll try to post things as I find them, in case someone would like something I find. I'll try and spread the joy  ;)

Actually, I'm getting ahead of myself... I hope I find *something* good here. Last time I was on a US vacation, I got nearly nothing! Hence, why I need luck!

I'm heading off tomorrow for a one week business/pleasure trip to California.  :-X I'm hoping to come home with lots of new Star Wars goodies. Wish me luck!

I'm sorry, but I just think they're all crap.

I just had a look at the pictures posted on and most of them actually look pretty good. I'm sure I'll end up getting the clones, wookiees and droids. Hmm... probably the Neimoidian too. :P
Actually, now that I'm over the shock/disappointment of not getting new figures, it's actually a pretty good assortment. I think I'd probably buy 8 of those figures, which for me, is a good ratio. I usually only end up being interested in half of the line.

I haven't been this disappointed in a long time.  :'( I'm sorry, but I just think they're all crap. In general, I like the idea of repainting army-building figures, but they should just be rotated in to the assortment as replacements for the older figs, not as "new" figures. I was really looking forward to some original scults.

I've seen this at my local Toys 'R Us (Ottawa) in both the regular and exclusive tin version. Plenty of each available.

I hope they haven't given up, but I've noticed the exact same thing at my local Wal-Mart. Last time I was there, the only Star Wars items in the whole toy department were about 3 Lego sets and a couple of Monopoly games.  :'(

Wampa Cave / Request: ROTS Incredible Cross-Sections
« on: July 02, 2005, 05:47:24 PM »
Would someone who owns the Episode III Incredible Cross-Sections book  and a scanner be able to do me a big favour?  :( I'm trying to build a model of the Rebulic  (Venator-class) Star Destroyer out of Lego and I'm having a hard time trying to find some good pictures of the whole thing. I'd really appreciate it if someone could scan the page from the book and send it to me. I don't really want to have to spend $30 on a book for one page!

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Re:Academy Awards?
« on: May 27, 2005, 09:35:19 AM »
I've often wondered if Lucas' status as being an "independent filmmaker" outside of the normal Hollywood circles hurts his chances at getting recognition. I believe that he withdrew from the Director's Guild back in '77 in a fight over the opening credits (or lack of them, actually) in Star Wars. So, I wonder if that pisses off some of the Academy membership, effectively blacklisting him.

Should be interesting to see how things work out. It would be nice if ROTS at least picks up a few nominations.

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Academy Awards?
« on: May 26, 2005, 03:11:41 PM »
Anybody think that ROTS might win an Oscar next year?
Obviously it's still early, but I'm going to have a hard time believing that there will be anything with better visual effects than ROTS this year.

But, could it possibly be nominated for anything else? Best Animated Feature, possibly. ;)

Seriously, though, is there anything else worthy for consideration? Original score, costume design, sound, editing, supporting actor (Ian McDiarmid?).

The orginal Star Wars (ANH) won 7 Oscars, while ESB won 2, and ROTJ 1. While TPM was nominated for 3 and AOTC 1, but neither won anything.

I used to think that it would be impossible for a sequel to win awards (since they mostly just reuse previous elements), but after seeing Return of the King clean up, anything's possible.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Wampa Cave / Re:Star Wars Trilogy on DVD Sept 21

Well, I guess the truth is that I will probably be second in line to buy the DVDs. ;)

I guess I hadn't considered that they still might follow with an Ultimate Edition in a few years. Great, now I'm going to hold out hope for something else that'll probably disappoint me too. ::)

Why do I feel like I'm the only one who's completely devastated by this? Maybe I'm not being reasonable, but I figured that movies as important to film history, like the Star Wars trilogy, would be given a better treatment than a paltry 4 disk set. I mean, I think that I have at least 3 hours of behind the scenes material at my house already. Stuff from the "Behind the Magic" CDs, the making of VHS casettes, and much more. I can't understand why they would make us wait all these years for such a crappy set. I don't care what's on them. 4 disks just isn't enough. I think a 6 disk set would be the absolute minimum and 9 would be preferable.
Don't have enough to fit that many disks? Then you're not trying. How about this: Disk 1 & Disk 2 - Original and Special editions with full commentary from Lucas and friends explaining it all. Especially now with the context of the prequels, there's lots they could say. Disk 3, new interviews, deleted scenes, screenplays, trailers, archival footage, old TV interviews, and on... I'd expect this for each movie.
Plus, with the way Lucas was shooting off his mouth a few years back. I'd expect the movies themselves to have several enhancements.

Anyway, I hope I'm wrong about this and the set is fantastic, but I was really hoping for the DVD set to end all DVD sets.

Rant over...

The set-up in Orlando is truely awsome with half a full size AT-AT and part of the ewok village. Even a speeder bike to sit on and take pics of. I have a video of the ride and from around outside in Orlando. bm459, did you happen to notice the guy who dives behind a table at the end of the ride. If you take a good look as he gets up, it's good ol' GL!.

I'll have to try out Orlando one day. The AT-AT sounds fantastic... I'd love to get a photo with that.

Oh, and I did notice the guy, but didn't recognize him. I noticed that he seemed a little unusual for that type of thing... a plain looking guy with a beard... I'll have to go again just to check that out :-)

Did you have any grief with customs at the border when you got back bm459?

I didn't have any trouble at all with my purchases. I brought back about $450 US worth of stuff with me (including some non-toy purchases like a new PDA). I was down there for 10 days so I was qualified to bring in up to $750 CDN worth of stuff duty-free. My wife was with me for 5 days so she could bring up $200 CDN as well, so between the two of us, we were no where near the limit. Plus, from my experience, it really helps if you don't buy any booze or cigarettes. They usually like to nab you on that stuff.

I was really happy. The first store I went to was a Wal-Mart and they had absolutely nothing. They had, I think, 4 Wattos or something really sad. So, I was a little worried. But from then on, things picked up and I managed to spend a good chunk of change.

I did get to stop in the Downtown Disney Lego store. Very impressive. Especially the Lego Star Destroyer. Also picked up a bucket of bulk Lego bricks. That was too cool... Lego by the pound  :)

By the way, if anyone has been thinking about visiting Disneyland... I highly recommend it. My wife and I had an absolutely great time. I mean, I know it's Disneyland and it's supposed to be fun and all, but I've never been to anything like that before and I was just really impressed. Everything was just so much fun. I hope I'll be able to try out Disney World some day.

Wampa Cave / My trip report

Just got back from a week-long trip to California where I was able to hit a few stores on a pretty successful toy run. Not to mention, I also was able to spend a day at Disneyland and Star Tours. I was really satisfied with my haul and it made up for a lot from the last few months. I'm not nearly caught up, but it gives me a start and it was nice to pick these up at retail.

Here's what I got (all in one day + Disneyland):

- All 4 Screen Scenes
- Wat Tambor
- Clone Wars Yoda and bonus Clone Trooper
- Clone Wars droid 3 pack
- 4 different Star Tours figures
- Droid Factory Padme
- Hoth Han
- Secret Ceremony Anakin
- Tusken Raider - Ambush
- Aayla Secura
- Research Droids
- 2 x Sneak Preview Clone Troopers (clearance for $2.88 each)

All-in-all, works out to 30 new figures for me.

Would have bought some more, but didn't have the place for anything else.

Could have had:
- KB Exclusive Gamorrean Guard & Tie Fighter
- Anakin, Arc Trooper, Mace Windu or Obi-Wan Clone Wars figures
- Any of the newest Unleashed figures
- Clone Wars vehicles (AAT, Geonisian Fighter, Hailfire, Gunship, Jedi Fighter)
