The Toys - Snowtrooper Reviews! / Jedi Temple Assault Battle Pack
« on: October 03, 2005, 04:53:49 PM »
Okay, gang, I just opened this set which came in the mail for me this morning from a friend in the US. Here's the breakdown.

US K-Mart Exclusive, shelf price $19.99 US.

5 figures in a window display box: Darth Vader (ROTS Ani #2), Clone Pilot (ROTS #34), 3 501st Clonetroopers (ROTS #6 repaints, with minor differences).

Darth Vader.

As above, this is the Anakin Skywalker figure (#2) from the basic ROTS line. It comes only with the hand/lightsaber combo - no empty hand, and no lightsaber hilt. The boots appear to have less dark brown paint on them than my #2 does, but that is the only aesthetic difference I can see.

Clone Pilot

This guy is an exact repack of the ROTS figure (grey version). It only comes with the short blaster - no firing cannon accessory and no grappling hook.

501st Temple Clones

These are the same as the #6 white and Shocktrooper versions, with only a couple of minor differences: they only come with one blaster each (2 short blasters and 1 blaster rifle distributed amongst the three troopers), and they don't have interchangeable shoulder plates. The blue shoulder plates are glued on as a matter of fact.

All in all, I would have much preferred getting the #28 Anakin with the "Sith Eyes" variation so that I didn't have to track one down on my own. Other than that, I'm very happy with the Clonetroopers - which would be the vast majority of peoples' reasons for buying this set anyhow.

Sorry, no digital camera at my place or else I'd have pics up.

Hi Gang, just a new thread for those in the know to help us out with the case assortments coming in from Hasbro lately. There have been (I'm guessing now) no less than 6 different cases over the past 2 months, and we're getting caught up really fast! I, for one, am interested in knowing whether or not certain figures have shown up in my stores and been bought before I got there - better to have loved and lost sort of thing - and knowing which cases your store likely got is the best way to know.

I don't have many case assortments to add to this first post, but I've borrowed some from DarthKeg's original findings of the recent waves and from an excellent post made by Kyle from Thanks guys, your input here would be fantastic!

The Toys - Snowtrooper Reviews! / Mustafar Sentry - Disappointing figure
« on: October 01, 2005, 03:01:52 AM »
Hey gang, I managed to snag and open two of these fine fellas over the past week or so. He's not my favorite, and I'll explain why.

The Good: he's neat to look at. Nice design, well executed tubes running to mask, which still allow the face of the character to move through a "head turning" range of motion without detaching. The colour scheme is neat, though it's a little brighter than what I expected after seeing pics of him over the past few months. The paint detail on my pair is very nice, the gold accents on the blue robe are very crisp and not smudged or scratched up at all. The face is very nicely painted.

The Bad: big, clunky manga-esque feet at the bottom of some very soft, rubbery legs make this fella tough to stand up. They've been playing Clonetrooper Dominos ever since I added them to my shelf. Not sure what it is exactly, but it's almost as if the left legs are shorter than the right ones. The ankle articulation is wasted on this figure as it doesn't help correct his inability to stand up very well. The weapon is also a little "odd" looking, and it seems impossible for me to get him to hold the pike straight up and down. The arms/shoulders do have articulation, but it's slightly odd inasmuch as you can't supinate and pronate the figure's forearms to change the angle at which the pike is held. I'm also not quite sure how the action feature works, but I haven't been working at it too hard trying to figure it out.

All in all, they look fine but won't stand up or hold their weapons in the manner I'd like. 5/10, and the points are mainly for the paint and for the interesting way the head moves with the hoses attached.

Hi, just wanted to create a thread on behalf of cash_fan, whom I've met on 3 occasions and finally had the chance to deal with.

Thumbs up from jj, thanks for the deal.  :)`

Wampa Cave / Name your Favorite Toy Vehicles!!!!
« on: September 14, 2005, 12:31:28 PM »
I had some fun this morning with my son, we unwrapped the POTJ Snowspeeder with Dack and Luke figures - then had a mini battle of Hoth! Having the AT-AT and Snowspeeder out (newer versions) got me thinking about which SW toy vehicles are my all-time favorites.

1. AT-AT Walker, POTF2 version. Upgraded sound and paint from the original vintage walker, but the materials used in production are still very sturdy. Man, I love this thing!!!

2. OTC Millenium Falcon - the "ultimate" version based on the original molds. Great paint, cool sounds and lights - and no stickers to worry about falling off once they dry out.

3. Saga Shuttle - I didn't have a vintage one, but the paint alone on this thing is stunning. Still feels very "vintage" though, with the doors not shutting perfectly and stuff. Great tinted out cockpit though - very cool looking.

4. Vintage Snowspeeder - this vehicle needs the sounds and lights! The newer version looks better, but comes off as a lot cheaper due to the materials used and the skimping on the electronics.

5. Saga Clonetrooper Gunship - the highest quality prequel vehicle, in my opinion. It looks amazing, the materials used are of high quality - and all the mechanisms on mine still work beautifully. Excellent ship to own.

Honourable Mentions to:

Vintage Twin Pod Cloud Car - I played with this thing A LOT. Having no new version to compare it to makes this vintage beauty as desirable today as it was back in 1983.... and not a whole lot more expensive in nice loose condition.

ROTS ARC 170 - again, high quality ship that looks very cool on display with a slew of pilots. I bump this down the list because it obviously borrows a lot of design elements from the Gunship.

Wampa Cave / Just Got Back from Disney/Comic Con
« on: July 21, 2005, 12:46:13 AM »
As per title, my family and I spent the last 8 days in California. It was a very Star Wars-y trip though, even on the travel days:

July 11th - met Matt from ToyTraders when I stopped in there to thank him for the Clonetrooper deal.

July 12th - ventured into Downtown Disney and spotted the Star Tours R5 unit at the big store. Lots available, and we weren't letting the kids buy anything that day so I left them there. Regrettable decision.

July 13th - got the other 2 Star Tours droids after going on the ride with my little fella. He looked carsick, but managed to to whisper "I LIKED IT!!!!!" when asked I asked him if the ride had been "too wobbly". He's a trooper.  :-*

July 15th - spent the day in San Diego at the Comic Con. Saw Kenny "R2D2" Baker, Ray "Darth Maul" Park and Peter "Chewbacca" Mayhew in person - talk about geeking out. Lots of great stuff on display at the Hasbro pavilion, we're getting some nifty 501st Clones, and a cool Kashyyyk green one to boot (not to mention the TRU exclusive Hoth set with 3 SNOWTROOPERS INCLUDED!!!!  :( ). Hasbro gets big props here for handing out (free) Galactic Heroes 2 packs with Yoda and R2 inside.

So even though I didn't find any wave 4 Star Tours figures, or any basic figures we don't have here (other than a dark Wookie Warrior), I had a successful and fun trip.

C'mon guys, I'm getting bored waiting.  ::)

EDIT #2: And renamed yet again due to the recent successes I've had.

Wampa Cave / Yoda won me $7 - and MORE!!!!

It's gonna be a party, y'all! My family got me a Yoda Scratch and Win lotto ticket which netted me this huge victory prize! Just enough for a coffee and a new ticket!!!!  :D

Wampa Cave / "PREMIERE" Mag Spoilered Me!
« on: May 02, 2005, 06:13:26 PM »
Damn thing, I should have known better. I got sucked in by the cool Anakin cover, and got spoilered regarding the fate of one character and one other pretty important occurrence.

And now, a quick angry rant to the publisher:

Okay, I feel a bit better. Sorry.

Let's hear it for ToyTraders, everyone. Great work getting us that incredible deal on the EE Clonetroopers - easily appreciated by Canadians everywhere that like saving $50.   :-*

Hi gang, just having a look at my new figures and getting a little freaked out - figured I'd better start a discussion here to see if I can gather any info.

I managed to find a few higher numbered figures at TRU this morning (by reading I can see I'm not the only one).

Here's my trouble: I got Luminara, which is "correctly" numbered as #31 - which matches the US list. My  Vader's Medic Droid, however, is numbered at #37 as opposed to #41, my Polis Massan at #39 as opposed to #43, and my Mas Amedda at #40 as opposed to #44.

See my trouble? Somewhere in there, WE'RE NOT GETTING 4 FIGURES.

Anyone else find any of the figures between #31 and #37 on TRILOGO cards that will answer the question "which figures aren't we getting?"

I'd love to know soon so that I can get my US contacts on the job.

Video Games / Great Deals on Games?
« on: February 14, 2005, 02:21:47 AM »
Hey Gang,  I just bought myself 4 new PS2 games from Blockbuster's used section. Seems like they have quite a selection here in Nanaimo, and I've only recently become a customer there (too many movie places closer to home).

Splinter Cell 2: $29.99
Tiger Woods 2003: $19.99
Fellowship of the Ring: $9.99
Wolverine's Revenge: $9.99

Still pondering over Hot Shots Golf 3 for $14.99 and Star Wars: Racer's Revenge for $14.99. Tons of games on cheap. Anyone else find any great deals lately? Where, and what were they?

Video Games / Anyone Else Had to Send in their PS2?
« on: February 02, 2005, 12:46:20 AM »
Mine finally started with the inevitable "Disc Read Error" after 5 faithful years of service. It's boxed up now to be sent to Coquitlam tomorrow, where Sony will purportedly fix the problem for free and return it to me at no cost. All I pay is the shipping over. Very nice of them. If you have a deck that's doing this, and you haven't chipped it or monkeyed around with the guts of it in any way you too qualify for the free fix. Call 1800 345 SONY and speak to the operator, they'll give you a SR (service request) number and off it goes.  :-*

Video Games / Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
« on: November 30, 2004, 12:47:25 PM »
Anyone else down with Solid Snake? I've been an addict since the Playstation title launched in 98. The third episode (actually 5th, if you count the two 2dimensional adventures released before the Playstation version) is actually at prequel, occurring in the 60s. The gameplay remains similar, and the story appears to be setting up nicely. I'm still relatively near the beginning, but am very pleased so far. 58 bucks and change at Superstore, not bad for a new game.
