Scout Report / Re: Post Retail Finds of NEW PRODUCT Here!

I was wondering if that 6" Dewback, which seems a bit too small for 6" to me, might not be great for the 4" figures. Someone over at RS did post pics of a PotF2 Sandtrooper next to the 6" Dewback... judge for yourself:

Scout Report / Re: Solo toys tomorrow?

I'm sure both TRU and Walmart will have plenty of Solo and TVC toys out on the shelves tomorrow.

It's Friday the 13th after all  ...what could possibly go wrong? :D

I think the problem with the AT-ACT and 6" FO Tie Fighter is that no one in particular was really, really asking for those to be made.  The demand just wasn't there.

If Hasbro makes something that longtime collectors truly want, say the big Falcon or AT-AT, people will usually buy them during a decent sale.

Anyway, regarding HasLabs, let's just hope that the exclusive YakFace comes with a starcase, and that they use better glue on the bubble than they are with wave1 of TVC-2018... can you imagine the reaction if the bubble starts to fall off on the upcoming Yakface card?

This would be the greatest April Fool's joke of all time if it turns out on Apr 1st, the decline has dropped to 1200 committed buyers, collectors are in a panic, the doomsayers are screaming for backers to back the barge, and then Hasbro says:

"Surprise! You can buy it in the stores as of today for $250US! April Fools!!!"  (that is, it was their whole plan all along to get people to sweat it out, think the end is near, and then have it available at mass retail for a way "cheaper" price).

...and then half of collectors sit back and wait for it to hit clearance at $50 anyway. :D

To me it's like the modern version of the GI Joe aircraft carrier - way better to have it at a friend's house to play with, but not have to deal with figuring out where to put it or how to keep it safe yourself.  :rollfloorlaffsmiley:

I'm still seriously considering it, but since I live in a fairly small place (one that's already jammed to the hilt with toys of so many different toylines) I'd treat the sail barge like the USS Flagg too... would love to have, but am 90% sure I don't have the space to display it in the open. It'd wind up boxed almost the entire time.

Plus, I already pre-ordered the HiyaToys ALIENS colonial marines APC, due sometime in August, and that is about $350CAN IIRC, this is a tough, tough time for Hasbro to be setting such a short deadline to entice the long-time 3.75" collectors that they've ignored for years.  I wish the thing had been around $300US, that's way more easier to swallow than $750CAN. AND I actually wish it was smaller, maybe 2/3rd the size...

Well now...it's deciding time!

This is probably what's going through the minds of every adult Star Wars collector in Canada right now:

I agree with JR... the international version, if it comes, would be gutted, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think quite the opposite.  I don't need the Jabba, or the 2-seat cockpit area (they can just seal that off), they can go with cheaper materials for the sails if possible (or heck, use paper for all I care) or even the Ithorian skeleton.

If it either brings down the final price, or allows for a retailer in Canada or the UK to be able to get it for a "low" wholesale cost that they'll agree to carry it, then that's great.

More importantly, imagine what would happen if the international version were the exact same thing as the initial crowd-sourced version, and then the retailer sold it for less than $500?  Then the next time HasLab tries to propose something, everyone would just sit back and wait for the international/retailer one.

My feeling is that the crowd-sourced version should always be the "deluxe" model. It comes with all the bells and whistles and is the ultimate version. Those who can afford it, can go for it. Those who only want to spend $300, have to wait and take their chances.  Even then, those that make it to some international retailer or online store, will probably be relatively low in quantity, and that prevents people from just "waiting for clearance" to snap it up. The retailer makes a profit, sees a demand, and would be willing it to order other future HasLab products again.

Win-win?  I hope so.  I want a Death Star playset dang it.  And a big Shuttle Tyderium too!

Am reading on Fwoosh that the 6" Gammorean Guard is going to be a Target exclusive?!?  WTF? Hasbro doesn't like making scads of money apparently. Did they forget just how in-demand the 3.75" TVC GG was or something?

A friend of mine made a great observation that the "pimp trooper" may not be a real stormtrooper, instead he could just be some gangster dude that scavenged various parts of Stormtrooper armor to make his own sweet armored outfit.

That'd explain the furrier and almost kitbashed aspects of the costume design, as I don't really see the Empire going for that aesthetic for their ground forces, somehow.

Well pics of the 6" SOLO figures are now out.  Check out the "pimp coat Stormtrooper" (that's "Range trooper" for those who want to use the official nomenclature, but let's face it, we're gonna call this guy the pimp coat Stormtrooper from now unto eternity)

While I am among those many who felt that the Canto Bight scenes were incredibly boring, this write-up offers some great insight about why it was included and how it affects Finn's (badly-needed) character development in TLJ:

http://eleven-thirtyeight.com/2018/01/a-man-who-wants-to-run-finns-character-arc-in-the-last-jedi/

Here's the most important part:

Quote
While the Canto Bight subplot has been seen as ďuselessĒ to some, it is absolutely vital to Finnís shift in character. Up until this point, heís been doing everything in his power to leave the Resistance. Of course, he has a conscience, and he wants to make sure Rey is safe before he ventures off.

In this mission, Finn sees two potential outcomes for himself: Rose is who he will become if he joins the Resistance and DJ is who he could become if he runs away. He can sell his knowledge to the highest bidder and live a rich life amongst the wealthy elite or he can tear down the system and fight injustice.

This io9.com article basically confirms what I think most fans should either have already known (especially when it comes to JJAbrams' stupid mystery boxes) or should've guessed after watching TLJ: there was never, ever any real idea as to who Rey's parents were going to be when making TFA...

https://io9.gizmodo.com/rian-johnson-considered-every-option-before-choosing-re-1822413324

Moreover, this quote from the talkback section:
Quote
Itís been mentioned in earlier interviews following opening weekend that while Abrams left it open-ended, he had no answer and that he came to agree with Rianís idea that they were nobody during the pre-production for TLJ.

Iím sure people will still believe that there may be a bigger answer to be revealed and itís all a ruse, which is possible. But itís looking like any belief that thereís a bigger reveal is akin to speculating that Vader was lying about being Lukeís father post-ESB but pre-ROTJ.

While I understand anyone who felt let down that Rey wasn't related to anyone big (although I had hoped she'd be Luke's daughter or the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker to come back and atone for the evil of his past life) the ultimate answer that she's a nobody is a great reveal. I would still wish in eps9 that we at least learn that Luke had a wife (Mara) who gave birth to a kid, BUT that while a Skywalker, maybe he turned out to be pleasantly ordinary and Force-less... but still had to get put into hiding because evil baddies would never believe this and would still try to kidnap the kid to exploit his supposed strong connection to the Force.

It would be a wonderful world that we live in if Hasbro did it the way Eaglemoss does for their Star Trek license.. they sent out an email to subscribers inviting them to participate in a survey about what THEY wanted from EMoss (rather than EMoss deciding what its customers would get).

Check out this article which outlines the stuff that customers could vote on (in varying degrees of how badly they'd like to see it happen). I'd love a bridge playset of the Excelsior myself...

Which is why Hasbro should just ditch 5 POA and go back to SA.

Sadly, they're more likely to ditch 3.75 line altogether and only give us 6".

Well no, no let's not get too pessimistic here... Hasbro seems to be slowly course correcting. They've stated TVC is coming back this spring and will be around for 3 years (at least! obviously this all depends on sales...)  So 3.75" SA isn't dead, it's getting another shot at life again but I hope Hasbro hasn't converted so many collectors over to the 6" scale that not enough people will care.

And naturally it hurts that TVC2018 will start off with a wave of mostly repacks of pegwarmers and main characters that everyone has already except for Snoke. I mean, does Hasbro even use common sense any more?

It was pointed out in a US thread that Mattel is going to do "collector grade articulation" for their upcoming Jurassic World toyline, with good accessories and avoiding gimmicks like missile-launching crap or build-a-weapon-that-looks-like-garbage.  If enough people support both Hasbro and Mattel's slow moves back into SA 3.75" maybe we'll someday see MarvelU and DCM 3.75" return as well.  And GI Joe...
