Wampa Cave / Cheap(er) alternative to SDCC 6" Carbonite Han
« on: May 07, 2014, 03:24:04 PM »
I was reading the comments at the bottom of the recent article about the upcoming SDCC exclusive 6" Jabba set (yet another swift kick in the head to collectors). One person mentioned he bought a painted resin copy of the Carbonite Han from last year's SDCC Fett set. So I looked around on ebay and found the seller:

$40 for a "carbon copy" is still a lot, but considering the official set is priced over $200 on ebay it is a much cheaper alternative. Add $20-$30 for a retail version of Boba Fett, and you've basically got everything from the SDCC set for 30% of the going rate. (He's also selling them unpainted for $35, for those whose time is worth less than $5 to paint it themselves).

Off Topic / Toys"R"Us records record loss in 2013

Bad times for the toy retailer:

But hopefully the new CEO will turn things around:

Maybe it's just me, but it does seem like TRU has been have fewer and more-focused sales the last few months. Not as many of their ALL "X BRAND" TOYS 25% OFF sales.

Customs / Tonnika figures added to my cantina
« on: November 23, 2013, 11:45:27 PM »
I just received a pair of Tonnika sisters from a friend that I had commissioned him to do for me. Well technically, for those who know the EU retcon, they are Karoly D'ulin and Shada D'ukal, the Mistryl Shadow Guards who were masquerading as Senni & Brea Tonnika in the movie scene. And therefore, since they weren't actually identical twins in that scene, these figures were made from 2 different figures from the Marvel Universe line: Black Widow (TRU exclusive w lightup base) and Kitty Pryde, respectively. They have the same body mold, just different head sculpts.

Here are the pics:

Feedback O-T / San Fran
« on: September 19, 2013, 10:19:28 PM »
Happy to be the first to leave feedback for San Fran.
I sold several figures to him, and he was a pleasure to deal with. Communication was prompt, clear and polite, and payment went without a hitch. Thanks for the purchase! Deal with confidence!

Looks like Disney is cool with Hasbro continuing to work on their new empire of licenses, at least until 2020:

So Hasbro will be producing figures throughout the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

Other Movies - Music - TV Entertainment / Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
« on: June 12, 2013, 10:30:08 PM »
Just saw a spot for this show on TV tonight, starting in the fall. Any interest out there in this show? I knew about it before, but still little idea on what it's gonna be about (apart from the obvious of course).

I'm a bit behind on my comics news, and had not heard about this before today, but Dark Horse is starting up a new ongoing Legacy comic series. Looks like it's focusing on the Solo descendent(s) this time - Han & Leia's great-great-granddaughter Ania, in about 138 ABY.

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / The Clone Wars cancelled
« on: March 10, 2013, 07:35:16 PM »
Looks like it's all but official now:

My wife and I have been watching through several seasons of various recent & current TV shows, and we're looking for a few new suggestions of shows to give a try. I thought I'd start this thread to poll everyone for their "Best of" or "Top 10" TV series from say, the past decade or so, and see if there's any other good suggestions.

Looking back at what we've watched, the ones that stand out as favourites tend to be either short-lived/cancelled network shows that never got a chance, or made-for-cable series'. Here's our "Top 10" list, in no particular order:

Game of Thrones
The Wire
Battlestar Galactica
The Walking Dead
Murdoch Mysteries
Prison Break
Doctor Who
The Mentalist

Wampa Cave / Thinking of selling my Clone Wars 2008-present collection
« on: February 18, 2013, 02:41:59 PM »
I've started to go through all of my collection to try and weed out some figures I just don't need to keep anymore. I then began to contemplate whether I should just sell off my entire Clone Wars 2008-2012 collection, and just stick to the realistic style. It's not that I don't like the figures, I just don't have the space to keep everything, and it's a waste to have it all sitting in boxes in a storage closet. The biggest stumbling block though - how to go about selling it all?

Here's the parameters. I have every basic figure, most still MOSC but some loose. I have about 75% of the battle packs and deluxe class 1 figure/vehicle sets, again mostly MISB, as well as about 75% of the larger vehicles, all MIB. There's a lot of hard-to-find and rare stuff in there, which I was fortunate enough to pick up for retail or less when it was first out.  And there is of course a lot of super-common stuff that only a new collector would have need for these days.

The rare stuff would be easy enough to offload. BUT - I don't want to get stuck with all the rest in the end. For me, it's all or nothing. And I'd like to try and recover all or most of my costs.. I'm not looking to make a profit, but if I'm gonna lose half my investment then I'd rather just keep everything. So, any ideas on how I might be able to do this? Ideal scenario would be to sell everything as a lot, for maybe 80% of my costs or something. Do you think there's even enough interest out there in collector-land for something like this?

I was bored at work and my mind wandered into thinking about what kind of movie I'd like to see done as one of the standalone spinoffs for Star Wars that Disney/Lucasfilm is supposedly pursuing. So why not have a little fun and throw some ideas out there, if for nothing more than each other's entertainment while we wait for some official news?

So here's the one that was the subject of today's daydream:

"Star Wars: Purge", kinda like the comics of the same name. Set after ROTS, it focuses on Vader and his elite clones hunting down and exterminating remaining Jedi, post-Order 66. I'm thinking of a typical action-film style to this movie, kinda in the vein of Underworld, Wolverine, that kinda thing. Lots of awesome saber duels, force-powers flying, etc. There'd be cameos from a few like Palpatine, maybe Fett, some clone commanders. Open the film with Vader completing a mission against one powerful Jedi, maybe one from the PT that we didn't see get killed yet. Vader returns to Coruscant, and Palpatine sends him off on a mission to track down another Jedi that he's felt in Force. Vader thinks maybe it's Obi-Wan or something. He hand-picks his group of commandos, and heads off on a galaxy-wide search, hitting 3 or 4 stops along the way, knocking off a couple more "lesser" Jedi, some Rebel sympathizers, etc, trying to discover the location of his main target. He finally gets there, has a big throw-down with some giant beast a la Jabba's Rancor or something, then the final confrontation. There'd have to be some type of underlying storyline, with a plot twist or two, and some type of reveal or moment at the end when he's at the point of beating the target Jedi, to make it more than just pure action, but I don't have the ambition to think of that today. There'd be room for character development, camaraderie and banter between the commandos, etc. Make it PG-13 for sure.

Lego / Jabba's Palace set already on clearance at Walmart
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:07:58 PM »
I saw that my local Walmart has the almost-new Jabba's Palace set already on clearance: $98, down from about $155. Kinda pissed me off as I bought it already (20% off sale at TRU before Christmas). Not sure if this is an individual store price, or if it's chain-wide. It's always worth a look in your local clearance aisles at this time of year as they are getting rid of a lot of stuff right now!

Mainly because brianakarobin requested it, here is a photo of my 2 daughters, R2-D2 and Yoda, from last night's candy collection bonanza. Feel free to post your own photos as well!

PS: the Artoo outfit is courtesy of brianakarobin. Thanks!
