I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, I'll let the Mods decide.† Since this is the marketplace were we are always sending each other money I figured it would get seen by the people who will use it the most.

I've been using this service for the past few months and love it, and so does everyone who has used it with me.† So I figured it was time to let the masses know a little more about it and make it more common knowledge.† The only bad thing I have encountered using it so far has been the lengthy explanation needed to explain how it works on an individually basis.†

Both parties have to be in Canada, since it does not work with banks from the US.† All you need is to be banking online, and have an email address.

To Send Money:
Login to your bank account, and find the email money transfer (EMT) page.† Follow the steps provided to enter the recipients name, email address, amount, subject, and pick a secret password.† Then CertaPay sends an email to the recipient with a link to accept the money, there is a 30 minute delay.† In the meantime, send the recipient an email or phone them to tell them the password.†

To Receive Money:
You'll get an email from CertaPay with a link, click that link and follow the steps to accept the money and enter the password.† When youíre done the money will be transferred immediately.

That's it!

The only cost involved is $1.50 for the sender to send any amount, and itís free to accept money.† Which sure beats sending cheques, money orders and most of all Paypal.

Here's a few link that explain the process from the only Cdn banks that do it right now:

CertaPay:

Scotia info:

Please respond if you have any questions or have used EMT's before and have any feedback.

Have fun saving money and time,
-Ryan

I have been wondering about this myself. How safe is it really?

I can't vouch for how safe it is or anything but, I can say, I have used it a couple of times without any problems.

It's very safe in terms of not having the payment go missing in the mail, and you get a confirmation email that the payment was accepted.† There's still the issue of having the person actually sent the merchandise, but that's an issue with any payment method.† Paypal offers a little more protection, but I've been burnt with Paypal before too.

I've made 5 payments, and had 7 payments sent to me without a problem.

This is some great info Ryan.  I've heard of these e-mail payments but never really thought seriously about using them - now that I see how easy it is, I may have to try it out.

It's an "interac" service, the same as using your debit card to pay for something. I've used it a bunch of times, and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. By far my preferred way of dealing with people inside Canada.

Couldn't agree with you more.   Used it over the years with no issues and starting to prefer this method.   :love0030: :love0030: :love0030:

Its only $1.50 to send money, which is a lot cheaper than a $4 Money Order from Canada Post.† It is free to accept money.† Best of all it is super fast and easy to use and the payment transfers almost instantaneously after the recipient accepts the payment.

I'm now up to† 5 payments, and had 7 payments sent to me and it has worked great everytime.† I far prefer to use this payment method over any other method.

It's not insured.  If you get screwed by a seller, there's no coverage.  I will only use Paypal.
