OT Original DVD review - ANH
« on: October 06, 2006, 01:36:50 PM »

I know - not really a toy - but I thought I'd post my thoughts on the DVD release of ANH.

The picture quality is not bad - letterboxed widescreen. You can definately tell the age from the film grain and the laughable SFX. The audio is 2.0 dolby which sounds underwhelming when pumped thru a surround sound set - but hey - that's the best they had in '77!!

The unfixed FX are quite astounding now. After 2 years of watching the DVD release of the films - it's very apparant where the tweaks were made. Some of the tweaks were needed - others not (Han not shooting first I think is still dumb)

All in all - the original cut of the film is a terrific reference point for cinema enthusiasts to show the comparison between yesteryear and today.

The one thing that I never noticed was in the medal ceremony - the first rows of troops as they come in are CARDBOARD!!!!!!!!!!! Totally hilarious!!!!
There isn't enough product on these shelves to fill a space cruiser!
