What's your plan?
« on: August 29, 2003, 01:52:06 AM »

Eventually all good things must come to an end :'( What do fellow troopers plan to do with their collections down the road? With episode 3 around a distant corner, new product will slowly dwindle(hope I don't depress anyone)
I want to complete the vintage line as well as any new things that interest me and then pass them on. I want to see what I can accumulate by the time I retire18 years to go :P

move out of my parents house, buy some more ships/vehicles, decorate my new place.
eventually pass them down to my kids to play with..... and that will be the end of them I guess.

YA MEAN THAT WE CAN'T TAKE IT WITH US?!!!!
I was not aware of this. What am I supposed to do with a 20ft coffin now?Heh heh......

Actually my kids have pretty much claimed ownership of my toys so when I finally deciede to stop collecting I guess that they can battle it out.I don't think I'll ever just sell the stuff off.

Sell everything on Ebay and buy a small Island in the Caribbean  ;D (or maybe a large Island)

Although my kids will be out of the toy stage by then I am hanging on to a few things to help them remember the old guy by, and I guess there is the grandkids down the road :P

Chances are when my "time" comes, the old lady is gonna have one heck of a garage sale, Toyfair vaders 50 cents, Dark trooper 10 cents LOL :o

I plan on collecting till the end.

Hasbro has the Star Wars liscence until 2018, so they will use it.

What I figure will hapen is this :

After Episode 3 - we get Episode 3 figures for a few years, then they do a decent EU line.
After that they stop the Star Wars line for a few years and then start it back up in 2010-2012.

When i started around 1997 seriously, there were 100's of local collectors, those #'s have dwindled, and so has availability of the product.

I doubt the #'s of each figure has gone down, but we see more and more good items clearanced.

SW as a collector hobby is as expensive as Barbie, one difference, Barbie has a mail away feature to guarantee every collector doll (not sure if it's US only tho).
As we get older, priorities change, $ goes elsewhere etc. It's really hard for me to say i'll collect till the license ends, or even next month.
What i'd like is, the # of items released to go down, maybe 15-20 4", 12 12" and 4-5 ships per year max. I think too much is coming out, and i find it tough to find/ collect it all.

I'd like to see fewer releases in a year as well.

But with the prequels only gaining steam with the upcoming movie, ya know Hasbro is gonna keep on trying to capitilze on that.

Maybe we'll get what we want after the prequels. Like an EU line.

I desperatly want a decent EU line!

When I was young, and thought ROTJ was the last movie, I put away my Star Wars toys. I didn't think any more movies would come out. Now years later we get 3 more. So I think i willdothe same. Collect what I can, then put them away. And if I have kids, pass them down.

hmm, i dunno, auction it all of when i'm too broke to eat?
maybe i'd just stash it somewhere obselete, someone may be happy one day...
but, i'd probably just give it to my kids if i have any, but wait, they wouldn't be collectables then would they?
oh such a dilemma.
maybe i should start making a will...
