Anyone Else Care About Baseball???
« on: August 07, 2007, 07:50:21 AM »

Jeez, I look back through the threads here, and it's all NHL with a smattering of football. I'm a huge Tigers fan, and have been very excited over the past couple of weeks waiting for Barry Bonds to break Hank Aaron's record, Tom Glavine to win his 300th career game and A-Rod finally hit his 500th homer, the youngest player by some wide margin to do so.

I also like to go to the games - I recently saw the Jays lose to Ichiro and the Mariners a couple of weeks ago, it was a fun contest!

How are your teams doing?

i watch the Jays as much as i can. Too bad the Jays aren't in the position that the Tigers are in  :tongue0024:  who knows maybe the Jays might challenge them for the wild card  :winking0071:

They're only a good week away from being there, I'll tell you that. The Tigers have been so lame lately that it's a miracle we're not 5 games behind the Indians, and 3 behind the Yanks for the WC. Good thing we've got TBay this week, sometimes it takes bullying a weaker team for a few nights in a row to get back on track.  :)

Baseball? Not regular seaon. Playoffs , I tend to watch. The season is too long and the Jays stink.

I love baseball and tend to watch a fair bit. It's a nice leisurely summer sport. The jays have been decent this year, but not as good as they should be. Disapointing for sure. I like the tigers as well because I spent most of my summers as a kid in windsor. Hope they can pull it together for the last part of the season and make the playoffs. Any time I hear Ernie Harwell's voice, it brings back lots of good memories, particularly of my grandfather. :)

The spending power of the yanks and red sox is depressing though. They desperately need a hard salary cap in baseball, and until they do I won't be able to enjoy the sport as much as I could. :( They're finally digging their head out of the sand regarding steroids  , but I'm not holding my breath on the salary cap.

Baseball was my life for many years growing up.  I can spout statistics from the 80's all day long.

My favorite team was always the Cardinals.  I guess they still are - I enjoy Pujols, but they have been fighting an uphill battle without Carpenter this year.  Somehow, they are still in the race.  Well, not somehow - because there division sucks!

Cardinals, eh? I thought I remembered something happening with the Cardinals last October for a second there, but my memory keeps trying to repress those thoughts.  :( :( :( :(

The wizard of Oz was awsome! I always kinda liked the cards because of him. :)

I think for a large portion of cities, baseball is dying because its always the same teams (Yankees and Red Sox) in the play-offs.

I love the Jays, but its hard to watch a season of 162 games when most years they are out of the race at game 100 lol.

I wish they went to a hard cap so that teams would be more even. Yet, I also like the idea of the money making teams actually being able to use that $$ for there team.

Kinda like the Leafs, they make all kinds of money, but can only use 50 mill towards the team, so that Atlanta and Columbus doesnt have to complain and remain competitive.

Ozzie Smith was a true stud. Total showmanship, class, performance..... the epitome of what a "Franchise Player" should be. Very few other guys from my lifetime come to mind for this type of thing - Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn would be 2.

Well the Jays blew another Roy Halladay masterpiece last night, but somehow  managed to shake it off and beat the Yankees in 14 innings. Hopefully they can get hot here and really slow the Bronx Bombers down - the Tigers desperately need their help.  :artoo:
