Boba Fett Replica Helmet paint up...
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:51:52 PM »

Hey Guys,

***I have this posted in the Manitoba section... but I thought I'd share.

Well with Halloween around the corner and me having time to work on my 3rd ESB helmet kit.. I thought I'd share my progress with you.

A lot of info can be found on forums like thedentedhelmet.com Boba Fett site, therpf.com Movie props & MPPC.com movie props.

First off I'll post pics of my unfinished kit. this is a fiberglass helmet sandwiched between two gel coats.

and a few members from the TDH did a small run of aluminum parts... so I had some $$ to burn, so I went for it, but the resin parts that came with the kit are okay as well.

Some of the tools of the trade you need.

Dremel and attachments
Sandpaper various grades.
Airbrush and paint & fine brushes
Automotive Bondo, putty
Hand-drill and bits
Screwdrivers

and a lot of Reference photos of the ESB movie helmet.

And when I say I'm doing the "Movie" helmet I mean the helmet you saw in the ESB movie.
NOT the helmet you see on display in exhibits  with 29+ years of scratches and handling damage. EDIT* new pic added..

I will be updating this often.
Well on to the pics...

I currently cut the visor opening and the key slots in the back. I'll post it asap.

Well,
Here are the pics of the helmet with all the openings finished, it took a while to cut, file & also sand the mold line.
enjoy... Click on thumbnails to enlarge pics. :fett:
Here is a front shot of the hemet with two of the aluminum ear pieces to see the over all shape.

Here you can see how I drilled holes to start then filed it to the desired shape.

Here I attached the aluminum ear to see how it would look.

next post will be starting on filling pin holes and bubbles In the gel coat with putty, bondo and a coat of primer.

Here is a pic of the back tan layer, I already did the light grey and Silver layers, here you cna see liquid mask on the tan shapes I want to keep.

Here is the green color I sprayed prior to me removing the mask.

And here is the finished back area....

now on to the dome & cheeks...

Man that is looking sweet!
Love the chipped paint look, if you have the time I would like to hear how you did it. I have a few Fett models to paint and I really like your execution here.

Here is an pic update..

Here is a pic of the ear details, top view as well and a pic of a kit for the ESB sidearm, it is a copy and machined kit of a "Pulce 40" a rare 70's spear-gun... just this year it was identified.

the helmet is done... but I have to load the pics...

Tim, I don't think I'll be wearing it to the Con this year.. but I do have a Halloween Social to go to that night.

I was directing a fan film a long time ago, my friend also did a Boba Fett Costume.
Not an easy task so good job on the Helmet.
