Mit Othy's Diorama Entry
« Reply #34 on: November 28, 2009, 10:40:39 AM »

So here is my Diorama contest entry. I'm calling it 'Deployment'. Ki-Adi-Mundi leading his troops into battle on some small planet. I found working on this to be a lot of fun. I haven't worked with paper mache, since... o man, grade 4 probably. It's been a while. I really wanted to put a waterfall into my diorama, so I  kinda worked around that. And in the end I'm happy with how it turned out. I have never tried anything like this before, but I had loads of fun and a lot of late nights. I wanted to take pictures with natural light, but when I got up this morning, my son kinda had his own little battle... So I scrapped that idea. Shouldn't have left it on the floor. O well.

most impressive  :fett:
if you don't mind my asking, how'd you make the waterfall/river effect? i've been trying to do one in a diorama forever, and it always turns out horrible looking :shakehead:

Thanks for the input guys.

Hey Clonecommander972, I used super clear chaulking (Lexel brand, found at Rona) For the waterfall, I put beads of chaulking on a non-stick cookie pan and then pealed it off and placed it onto the mountain. It worked out better and easier than I had thought. Hope that helps.

The Spice Mines of Kessel

I figured since I am a miner I would do a mining diorama for my entry. I know I've always been intrigued by C-3PO's comment about getting sent to the spice mines of Kessel.  Turns out it's a small but rich mine on the Outer Rim. When the Clone Wars broke out, a group of Mandalorian mercenaries and slavers took advantage of the chaos to set up an illegal operation mining spice using wookie slaves and stolen droids. These Mandalorians are bad dudes- they ambush clones and steal their armour and wear them as their own, painting them to suit their own purposes. The ringleader is the legendary female Mandalorian named- well, her name is only spoken in whispers and I am certainly not man enough to utter it.

Here is their operation:

But Palpatine got wind of their activity, and sent Anakin and his squad of clones as well as Palpatine's own elite corps of Shocktroopers to quietly infiltrate and take over. Anakin was only too happy to free some slaves, but thought it strange that Palpatine wanted the mine and armaments kept intact . . .

Anyways chaos ensued, but the republic was victorious in the end. Years later under the Empire the slaves and droids who had been there the longest spoke nostalgically of the former days under the Mandalorians . . .

Anyways, that was fun!  Thanks for allowing us the opportunity, it has been great seeing all the other amazing entries too. For you non-judges, I made a Flickr photoset with interactive notes and a lot more detail than I could show in these three photos:
