Making of Star Wars book
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:30:17 PM »

A shot in the dark here, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with something...

When I was a kid (early '80s), my local library had a small hardcover "Making of Star Wars" kind of book. It wasn't very big, about 6"x8", and probably a maximum of 100 pages. It had a predominantly blue cover and covered only the original Star Wars (ANH). My memories are really fuzzy and I wish I had more details, but, anyway, I'm hoping a Star Wars book collector will read this and be able to identify this book from my crappy description.

So, yeah, anybody have any idea what the name of the book is that I'm talking about?

sounds like a book I have. This is all text on the from cover.

Step up movie adventures.

Star Wars
Adapted by Larry Weinberg,
Illustrated with color photographs from the movie.

Basically its a childrens book, hence the step up movie adventures title. There is a picture of Han, Chewie, Luke and Obi-Wan onthe front cover inside the millenium falcon cockpit. C3-PO is on the back.

Let me know if thast helps.

Was it this book?
http://www.amazon.ca/Star-Wars-Sketchbook-Joe-Johnston/dp/034527380X/ref=sr_1_36?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300478874&sr=1-36

It seems to fit your description fairly well. I think I remember it from my library when I was a kid too.

I have a different one here that might be it (same one as Eifwen methinks):

The author was Larry Weinberg. I have a copy at my house, the image is from amazon.

That's it! Thank you so much! The title didn't do it for me but seeing the cover nailed it. I owe you a debt of gratitude.

Now, how am I going to track one of these down for m collection?

I have that book as well, but in pretty rough shape.  Has some cool MacQuarrie sketches of the characters that we all know well now, thanks to the Macquarrie figs.
