it's going to be quick too.  The company in charge of the recievership will be going to court to being the process of liquidating the remaining assets and should make the official announcement Tues afternoon.  Blockbuster will still honour coupons and such till then, at least mine is.  They will continue renting movies and games till Thurs, then Fri is when everything will go on sale.

I'm going to make a cake in the shape of the BB logo, but with a miss you instead of Blockbuster, for the staff at my local store.  I was a store manager back in the mid and late 90's and left the company on bad terms.  When I moved where I am now, there was no option except BB.  I even rented movies 1/2 hour drive away because I has such a bad taste in my mouth from the whole ordeal of being forced to leave.  I finally caved in and found the staff to be fantastic.  They remember all the good cutomers name and even though saying hi to everyone coming in the door is part of the job, not once in the last 3 years have I ever felt it was just part of the job.

I will miss my local store, the staff that work there, and I have no idea where I will rent my blu-rays from in the future.

From the guys I talked to who are still at the stores - no SW was shipped to any stores. I'd suggest getting your refund for the deposit ASAP - at the rate the stores are selling off stuff they won't be around in a couple weeks!

returned Resistance 3 (I rented it last Wed) and although I had a $4 late fee, I then purchased it for $32!  $54 less 40%=$32.  Sweet.  Hoping to pick up the LOTR Extended set on Blu Ray this weekend.  There are a couple on hold, but if they don't get picked up, thier mine.

my son bought Force Unleashed II for Wii for $8 also.

New news....BBV (US) has been buying up the leases on a bunch of closed down BBV Canada stores and plans on opening up shop in the new year under the Blockbuster LLC title. Apparantly, the lease on some of the stores is for 10 years!?

Thanks US for putting 4000+ employees out of work just out of spite. If this has been their plan all along, why liquidate the damn stores and get rid of everything if all you're gonna do is start over again??

Oh ya - I got Thor on Blu-Ray for $20

It's aweful the business practice that is being shown here. I know mine isn't reopening (at least not in the next 3 months) as it's going to be a TRU express store.  Apparently TRU is even interested in hiring some of the BBV staff for the 3 months the store is supposed to be open.

On a side note, I asked one of the managers how much the Master Chief Halo 3 statue they have is.  It's on Kijiji for $750, but they'll go as low as $600.  Out of my price range :(

That's what filing for bankruptcy does... forces (or allows) a company to sell of all their remaining assets, clear their debt and start all over again. It works for regular people too although you'll have a really hard time developing a credit rating again.

In my typical way, I procrastinated in going by to check out BB's clearance sales until tonight. Too late, the 3 locations I swung by were already emptied, even though the website says they are open until the 30th. I guess they sold out already or there was so little left that they moved all the stock to a single location by the big mall (the one I DIDN'T go to). The website says they are down to 70% prices.

The one that I go to, sold out of most of the good stuff, within the first 2 weeks. It was pretty crazy how fast stuff went. I was able to pick up Ironman 2 and Thor for Xbox 360 for $12. Pretty good deal. Wish I found some good Blu-ray movies though.

Awesome! They're supposed to close Sept. 30, so that should clear the rest of their stock out. All stores are closed in my area already.
