Just had my first of two carpal tunnel operations.
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:44:19 AM »

Finally got my cast off a few days ago. Now apparently 4 weeks of resting, followed by light lifting for another 4 weeks then in 8 weeks time I can get back to normal.

looks like 2012 is going to be a fun year for me. In the new year I am having my left hand done, then once that heels I am penciled in for around March to have the first operation on my leg, they have decided they are going to try and give the knee move room to move by removing an inch and half chunk of bone out of my tibia just behind the knee, they are doing my left leg first once that heels (which apparently will take a few months as I will have to be on crutches) they will then do my right leg. So all in all I will layed up in one way or another for most of 2012. But atleast with the leg operations I will have a great excuse to sit down and work on some foam builds, Also plan on using the time to try and finish my book. I hope to get back into some light building over the Christmas holidays (maybe) I can't grip very well at the moment and don't want to risk slipping with a knife lol. Plus I was told by the specialist that I have been over doing it while I had the cast on, sure I had to go cut a Christmas tree down and stuff but I thought I was taking it easy (kinda). But my hands are my life I have to follow doctors orders.

Good luck with the operations. Friend had 2 carpal operations also, and 2 knee replacements. Word of advice, dont push yourself too hard, and take as much time off as you can. Friend went back to work too early with the first knee operation, and said she wouldnt do that again. So for her second knee, she rested more, and stayed off a lil longer.

What type of book you writing?

Just got back from the Doctors, last night I had noticed what seemed to be some blue stitching thread sticking out of my scar. I tred to pull it out but it was in scare tissue and wouldn't move, it really hurt so I went to the Doctors, they had to reopen part of my wound because the other Doctor had missed a stitch and some scar tissue had grown over the knot. They had to open my hand up another 1 1/2 cm's in order to get to the knot and cut it out. So now another week has been added on to my healing time. And I have to keep a close eye on it incase of infection.

As for what type of book I am writing, it is an adventure story aimed at young teens, I can not say too much about it at the moment until i hear back from the publisher. But these kids are able to travle anywhere they wish and get trapped and have to return home.
