Hasbro gets Star Trek Licence!
« on: February 11, 2012, 11:55:00 PM »

Bout freaking time!! This is pretty awsome. Crappy thing is it's more for me to spend money on!!  And the best part, apparently the licence spans beyond just the new movie. I have my TNG and OS crew in the diamond/DST scale but I've always wanted a 3 3/4 line that wasn't crap like the playmates stuff. Here's a link:

I am both elated, and like Darth Cujo, horrified at the prospects of just how much this will ultimately cost. Yet who can say no to super-articulated, incredibly sculpted TNG/DS9/TOS figures?!?   I also hated the Playmates stuff (except for the ships and playsets, now those they creamed Hasbro on in every way... no stupid play features).

Can't wait!

I am happy about the figurs.  Wish the building line went to Lego though.

Wonderful news! I hope they will make all the minor alien characters like for Star Wars. :D

This should make a nice profit for Hasbro, I'm thinking about all those Federation, Klingon, and Romulan costumes and how similar they all are (for pretty much every era, there's a ton of commonality in the designs, so Hasbro should be able to reuse molds and just repaint to their heart's content).

The Kre-o doesn't excite me... I have a couple of Transformers Kre-o but I'd rather buy Lego. Fingers crossed that the figures turn out nice. I'll pick up a few if they do them right.

Off topic, but the Kre-O transformers are on SUPER sale, would a lego loving kid enjoy them or do they stink?

I actually liked the Playmates figures from the 90s - the "regular series" lines like TNG, DS9, etc, not the 5-points-of-articulation crap they pumped out for Generations and other movie-related stuff. They were the only action figures I ever owned as a kid, as my friend and I would hunt for them at local stores. Articulation and sculpt-wise, they were far advanced from the POTF2 stuff that was being offered on the Star Wars side of things. I'll be interested to see what Hasbro can offer up - hopefully they don't mismanage the line like some of their others these days.
