Vintage Cards Re-Done vs. Not Re-Done in the Modern Era
« on: May 06, 2012, 05:39:22 PM »

Someone check this over & let me know if I'm on track. Ever since the initial offering of new figures on vintage-style cards I've been saving the packaging in hopes of one day having a complete set of cardbacks, without the vintage price. I'm mainly worried about the photos used - for instance I've marked General Lando as being done even though the new card wasn't done in the POTF or Tri-Logo style from the mid 80s and Chewbacca as done under ANH, even though the cardback I have is a ROTJ one.....

EDITED - List updated to the best of my ability for a score of 51/106 card photos re-released. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

They could easily mock up cards & re-release figures to fill in at least 1/2 of those blanks (a la TIE & B-Wing Pilots). I'm glad that you mentioned Nikto, he was one of the very few remaining vintage figures that hadn't seen a proper re-release in the modern era - the cardback is simply a bonus in that case.  :)`

Excellent goldenrod, added those photo variations. Not the biggest concern to me, but I was surprised that there were actual different photos used - I had always remembered them as altered versions of the same photos. The Luke gunner one is actually pretty desirable.  :speechless-smiley-004:

Awsome! Nice to see the vader variant. The blue "lightning" is a bit detracting from the carded look, but it's still nice to see. Loving the orange pauldron sandtrooper, especially with the dewback in the background of the photo. Nicely placed. I'll be getting both of these carded. Not sure about loose, only if they're different enough.

And nice list jj. I had compiled a similar list though I haven't updated it recently. My main hope is that each character gets released on the card with the logo from the movie they first appeared in. So I'm still waiting for SW carded R2-D2 and Chewbacca for example.

Hey Goldenrod; where'd you get the images?  I don't recall seeing them before...

I haven't been keeping up on vintage styled cards for characters that were never released in the old days. At my house those are recycling just like any clone wars or other toy packaging... but I agree, the Sandtrooper one is great (as was the Rebel Fleet Trooper, I nearly kept that one).
