Will you be purchasing a next gen console? If so, how soon?

PS4 asap!
PS4 after the hullabaloo wears off.
XBox One asap!
XBox One after the hullaballo wears off.
Not purchasing a new deck this generation for whatever reason.

Next Generation - which console & how soon?
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:34:57 PM »

Well? What's the verdict? I'm thinking PS4 in a bit - but really this time there is no new "I need this now" technology like there was with PS2 (DVD player) and PS3 (bluray).

There are no launch games for either deck that have me really wound up anyhow - though Metal Gear Solid 5 for PS4 will almost certainly be enough to have me spending money when the time comes.

When the time comes for me to buy one, it'll probably be the Xbox One. Why?? I don't know, because I have the original xbox and the 360

I went to a conference on the future of gaming this summer and yeah, no one was hyping the new systems per say. They basically said, yeah, graphics will be the biggest improvement along with a push to have the game be hyped through social media, online content, etc. After that it was all about games and how the field has pretty much split into the large companies and the indies. And how the future of gaming is in the game design, concept and the hope to have break away hits from either side of the playing field!

So in this case, I think a wait and see approach is totally valid. Oh, and most of them there laughed about the future of the Wii. But maybe they're just nerd-snobs! :)

The Wii (and WiiU for that matter) certainly have carved out a distinct niche - but it's likely smaller than Nintendo would prefer, especially over here in North America. Nintendo still has its fingers in many more households with the DS systems though, those damned things are everywhere.

Got the PS4. We have Marvel Lego & Call of Duty so far - but COD is downloading now, bought the PS3 version new for $29.99 and you can then upgrade it to PS4 for $10 online - cheaper than paying the $59.99 plus taxes for the PS4 disc.

I played it from launch until level 23 or so and realized that every level felt the same - find the computer, protect the computer while your helper downloads - so I stopped. I haven't played it now in about 3 months. If I come back I will look you up.

So long ago we had a PS3 thread with all of our PSN ID's.  Mine hasn't changed - wadeantley -

I still see some of y'all online every so often.  JJ, I see you on there a lot but I'm assuming it's now your kids.

It's Tom - my 14 year old. He's living a Destiny/Overwatch life while his dad is still stuck on World of Warcraft.  :speechless-smiley-004:
