Vintage Cardboard Death Star
« on: July 20, 2013, 02:04:03 PM »

I have been going through my old collection and have come across, assembled and card board Death Star from way back when.  It's in great shape and complete.  It was only released in the UK, Canada and New Zealand.  Not sure of the value.  Any ideas?

If it's the half-circle one, I'm fairly certain that it's worth a couple hundred dollars (if in excellent condition).  I had a kijiji seller try to sell me one for $300 last year (but hey, I'm not paying $300 for cardboard, even if it's vintage cardboard).

Regardless, take very, very, very good care of it :)

It's a valuable piece, potentially. As with all this stuff, condition & completeness determine what someone is going to be willing to pay. My best advice is get some good quality digital photos & let people see it for themselves.

Its worth $200 if in good shape with the box. It was a Sears exclusive. Do you have the box? I'd love to see some photos.  :r2d2:

Hi
No I dint have the box
The pics I have are to large to post here
I have a guy say he'd give me $240 for it

$240 isn't bad for a loose version. It depends on what condition it is in as well as if it complete or not. The 6 plastic bases, plastic canopy, Trash Compactor wall, chute and the odd black plastic fastener are often missing with these. Does it come with the original (Canadian, I assume) instructions? The Canadian instructions are very different from the Palitoy, Toltoys and Meccano instructions as the Canadian version was released a year later than the other countries'.

Good luck with the sale.

For anyone who wants to print out their own Palitoy Death Star, Dan Curto scanned the vintage one and those scans are posted on this site:
http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/palitoyds.htm

Just download and good luck with making your own Death Star... hopefully no spies come along and steal those plans, errr, I mean scans.

Here's a RScummer who went ahead and did his own cooler palitoy-style Death Star cardboard playset... he does sell them to anyone who wants to just buy it rather than make their own.  Notice that he even includes the Death Star meeting room!  I think it's much better than the actual palitoy product (more realistic, less cartoony backdrops).

Here are two guys who did great jobs making their own Death Star playsets.

1) This customizer put a lot of detail and thought into each of the rooms:

2) In the second one, while lacking the same attention to detail and finesse, he has some cool ideas:

Very inspirational if you are seeking to make your own DS playset (because Hasbro sure doesn't seem to be interested in giving us one).
