Young Han Solo: the movie
« on: July 07, 2015, 07:22:56 PM »

Well you knew it was coming:
http://variety.com/2015/film/news/han-solo-spinoff-film-star-wars-phil-lord-chris-miller-1201535524/

Quote
The Han Solo standalone is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date and is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

Any thoughts on who you'd want as your young Indy... errrr, I mean young Han?

Well, since Shia Lebeouf did so well in Indy 4...

Seriously, though, I am excited about the movie, but not sure who could ever pull off a Young Han, as I can't see anyone being able to imitate the same cocky bravado that Ford gave him.  I hope someone proves me wrong, though.

So we have some casting news on the Han Solo movie since the last post! We now know who will be playing Han (Alden Ehrenreich), Lando (Donald Glover) and Emila Clarke as a still unknown character. Personally I rarely watch movies or TV and have never seen any of these actors before, but I expect that they will do a good job. I think I'm looking forward to this movie more than Rogue One. It will be fun to see young Han, Chewie and Lando in action! I wonder who the woman will be? An ally or an enemy? I'm hoping for either an enemy or a romance interest for Lando. I wonder if Jabba, Greedo, Boba Fett and Maz will all show up as well, since Han obviously has a past with them?

I wasn't too excited about this being the second Star Wars movie.  There was so much more that they could have done before this.  Obi-Wan movie,  a sith movie - Darth Plagueis, or Yoda, would be a few that I would liked to have seen before a Han movie.

Apparently there was a Solo movie thread... I'm just gonna put this here.

Hopefully Ron Howard will be able to get the haters back on side with Solo.

Rumours are Solo is a complete trainwreck and Disney is already bracing for it to bomb.
Of course, rumours are just rumours, but it's already known as "Solo: The Star Wars Story No One Ever Asked For"

For the record, like most here, I liked some parts and hated others. Overall, it's fighting for last place with Ep7 for me. More than ever, I want to know what George Lucas' ideas were for the sequels. I liked the prequels. And I loved Rogue One.

Oh, boy.  Where to start with this one...

I can't think of ONE SINGLE P̶E̶R̶S̶O̶N̶ er, FAN that wanted this movie.  I know I certainly didn't.  And you know it had to be bad if (writer) Lawrence Kasdan was mad enough to go straight to the top to get these two directors fired.  I've heard that he was mad that the directors would just let actors ad-lib and not stick to the script, which is fine, but it changed the tone from whatever it was supposed to be to a comedy.

I'm not looking forward to it but will be there opening night and have my fingers crossed that Richie Cunningham was able to save it somewhat.  I don't want to go into spoilers (this movie should have its own thread by now) but I'm sure there will be some re-shoots in the next couple of months and there will be some, if not already, OT cameo's to make fans a little happier.

One indicator that this movie is currently a wreck, is that we don't have a trailer!  It's being released in less than 5 months.  TFA & TLJ both had teaser trailers one year out, and then big trailers around 7 months out and then another big one 3 months out.  In 6 weeks, we will be 3 months away.

I'm not sure what the chances are of them keeping that release date. They'll be getting a nice stream of revenue from the bluray release of Last Jedi around that time... wouldn't it make more sense for them to push it until Christmas & keep riding that annual windfall?

It probably will get moved but I think the reason they wanted it in May was to test franchise fatigue.  If it does come out in May and doesn't do too hot, well then now it's over a year and a half till the next one.  If it does hit expectations, then maybe we could see movies semi-annually.

There will be a new animated series premiering in the fall too.  They just haven't announced it yet.

Mini trailer during superbowl was ok, but the full 1:45min one is up now & is much better. I'm actually back to "hopeful" from "doubtful".

Thanks for posting the link.  I like the scenes and settings, at this point the biggest problem I am feeling is the actor playing Han Solo.  From the lines he delivered in the trailer - I can't say I think I am looking at a Young Han Solo.   And unfortunately playing a young version of an iconic character carries a lot of weight for an actor.    Hopefully when I see the whole movie he will be able to do it.

I'm going to give it a pretty big chance because the "miracle" of being able to pull it off entirely is somewhat doubtful. I think to be able to judge it properly we'll need to give ourselves time to get used to his interpretation of the character. I mean, its been 40 years of Harrison!
