Fantastic! I'm always amazed you guys can find so many general items that work so well in the background of these scenes, in scale with the figure. Just the hoses & the various items in the ugnaught area - very cool.

Quick explanations on my setup...

1) The core setup is fully lighted. There's at least 3 XMas light sets in the base platform, two sets in the ceiling, one in the stairways and one for the higher platform and ramp.  Just plug the thing in a wall outlet and the diorama is brought to life. :)

2) The lifting tongue system is functional. Well, kind of. It can be lowered and raised with a simple rope. It's not fully completed (need to add some detailing soon), but it's kinda movie accurate. :)

3) The Ugnaughts Incinerator Room is a modular addition that can be removed and displayed separately. It's also fully lighted with three sets of lights, but this time powered with simply batteries.

4) The Lower enlighted tunnel Luke takes to chase Vader is also modular and can be removed from the display for maintenance (in case of light bulb failure) or to eventually connect it to another portion of the overall Bespin Display (I have plans to do the other portions of the Luke-Vader Duel when I can find time to do these scenes).

5) I used a lot of movie reference materials for the details, especially the Freezing Chamber Ceiling, the side detailing of the floor portion, as well as the lower access tunnel and Incinerator Room. I'm missing some junk for the later room, but most wall details are there.

Some features are still a WIP, there's a few corrections I'd like to do in the near future, but I told myself I have no time to do these before the contest deadline tomorrow. So these corrections will have to wait later.  :tongue0024:

Because the rules say max. 9 pictures! ;-) LOL

Finishing touches on mine tonight, hope to take the photos with some day light tomorrow and squeak it in last minute!

Alright my turn... a last-minute rush to get this thing done on time!  :rollfloorlaffsmiley:

BACKGROUND

When I was a kid, the Kenner cantina was undoubtedly the playset that I wanted the most even moreso than the Death Star.

At the time, my reasoning was that if I was going to continue the adventures of Luke and the gang then the Death Star playset couldn't have been all that useful because the big bad space station was all blown up and gone. Whereas I was sure Luke and Han would still be going back to Tatooine and consequently, return to hang out at the cantina to chat, recruit more rebels to the cause, and lay low from the Empire. Also there's just something to be said about an environment populated by aliens and criminals, where fights and shootouts could spontaneously break out at any moment.

It's such a shame that Kenner didn't churn out more alien figures until RotJ since that meant the actual alien figures available to fill out the environment was going to be minimal (unless you were to toss in "aliens" from other toylines).

And the cantina playset itself felt fairly limited given that it only had a single table and the bar barely accomodated two or three patrons.

So one of my long-time desires was to do a modern update to the Kenner Cantina playset, giving some more room for aliens at the bar and additional tables.

THE DIORAMA

This is a fairly simple diorama to put together although it obviously requires some hunting for the Hasbro pieces. I didn't want to resort to having to use foamcore or cardboard or anything that wasn't already from a prior Hasbro toy release. The strict rule was that I'd only rely on pre-existing Hasbro parts in order to make a modern "Hasbro Cantina playset" in the spirit of the old Kenner cantina.

For you younglings who are not familiar with the original toy, this is the cover of the box:

My cantina is mainly derived from the PotF2 cardboard cantina, with the flimsy cardboard bar cut off, the enclave seating moved around a bit (or removed entirely), and the distillery also removed since it was going to be too big anyway to fit.

The new bar is made from the sturdier plastic cantina bar pieces that Hasbro came out with back in 2002. Even though I had enough cantina sections in my collection to create a longer bar, I kept it to 4 pieces connected together in total so that it would be reminscent of the undersized Kenner bar.

The droid detector is an accessory that came with the Wuhrer bartender figure, and the plastic tables were included with a few cantina alien figures from the 2008 Legacy Collection.

To boost the Kenner feel of my diorama, I used the modern super-articulated equivalents to the Kenner figures and posed them in similar positions as they were seen on the Kenner box. Note that Greedo and Han are actually in canonically incorrect positions (Greedo should've been on the right side, and Han on the left). And hilarious that Ponda Baba was cast as the bartender for the original photo! I guess they had to use somebody...

Luke is a simple custom of the TAC Moisture Farmer Luke (which had a horrible head sculpt), with the neck post shaved down so that it can fit the TVC Death Star Luke head.  The "Hammerhead" is the Ithorian Jedi figure from the TAC line. I was sorely tempted to repaint his outfit into the same shade of blue as the outfit worn by the vintage Hammerhead figure, but since I only had just this one figure I didn't really want to ruin him.

After taking the above photos, I populated the display with a few more canonical cantina aliens, most importantly Dr Evazan and Wuhrer, since as a kid I was somewhat annoyed that Kenner never made these two as figures so that their cantina playset would be more accurate with them in it. I also put Han and Greedo into their correct positions.

On the far right side, is an extra table with some aliens, but what I'd been hoping for these past few years is that Hasbro would release a super-articulated Bith musician so that I could have a band of them playing off to the side (just as a nod again to the Kenner cantina where the Bith band is playing next to Han and Greedo as part of the backdrop). The PotF2 Bith figures look terrible and I just refuse to buy them... I'm still holding onto hope Hasbro will sell us better-sculpted versions of the Bith someday.

Anyway, it's a neat little display, bigger than the Kenner cantina, but smaller than the actual PotF2 cardboard cantina.

And sorry about the poor quality of the photos, I've only got a tablet to use as my digital camera and it isn't exactly the highest quality camera - it probably didn't help that the lighting of my apartment is quite dim.

Finally just got mine in the can, so here's the results of the photo shoot.

This time I decided to do a Lego diorama - Mos Eisley street & cantina. Most of the build was done using 2 of set "75052 Mos Eisley Cantina" as well as additional parts from "9516 Jabba's Palace" and "75020 Jabba's Sail Barge". A good 80% of the minifigs are kitbashed from various other figures (that was the hardest/longest part). Unfortunately Lego hasn't done a whole lot of the more unique cantina aliens, so I had to stick to mainly human characters. I got as many aliens as I could do while still having them look fairly accurate.

I am now facing the worst part of do a diorama - having to take it all apart again after spending all these hours building it!

(Note: in case it matters - just did some editing of my text past the midnight timestamp)

I am attempting to upload my photos but the file size limit is minuscule. I need to figure out how to shrink my photos...

What's the current resolution of your photos?  You can always use a free image viewer like irfanview, which has built-in image resizing and resaving...

Okay, I think I got it.

Not very professional looking, but this was a Daddy-Daughter project put together over a couple afternoons. We had fun painting, picking out figures and putting things together.

Admiral Ackbar's mini-army of Leias trying to free Han Solo from the Stormtroopers. With a little help from the giant Chewie, and sneaky Wicket & R2.

More photos coming...
