R.I.P. Disney Infinity

Looks like Disney is terminating any future releases or updates to their Infinity video game. Too bad, me and my 5 year old son really enjoy playing it together and building levels. We'll continue to play but I imagine at some point it will stagnate if new characters and sets are no longer being introduced.

I'm sad about this too. I didn't play it much, but my son really enjoyed it, the figures are great and I enjoyed watching him play the game. I thought the game had been doing pretty well financially, but I guess Disney can be pretty ruthless if profits take even a small dip. Since acquiring Lucasfilm, they have made some pretty shocking cuts eliminating LucasArts, cancelling The Clone Wars, Detours and now Disney Infinity. I guess that's how they stay a profitable company though. All I can say is that Rebels and Star Wars figures better continue to be profitable and fit into Disney's plan, or they could come to a sudden end as well.

I'm actually kind of happy about this - not that the line is cancelled, but that it frees up the Star Wars and Marvel brands in the toys-to-life segment to be licensed out for Lego Dimensions. Maybe TT & Lego can work them into a Dimensions 2.0 in a year or so.

I thought the same.

So why the 3 dollar price jump at the second wave of 3.0 figures?  Gouging?

You sir are the epitome of all that is evil and wrong with our world ;-)

(edit: and happy belated birthday btw)

I would expect Walmart will clearance them out first at shockingly good prices, while TRU will hang onto them for dear life at regular prices for 2 years before finally clearancing them out at 30% off, then 50% off, then 60% off...

Keep me posted on any pending sales you see for this stuff. I'm thinking of purchasing the downloadable 3.0 game on PS4 and using my son's 2.0 mat (which I've read will work). That way I'm not out $75 for AOTC/Clone Wars and can focus on the OT & TFA stuff.

Looks like EB already clearanced their stock. The only new figure left there yesterday was Yoda with lightaber, down to $6.99.

Purchased my first few today at the 6.95 price point:

EpII Yoda
EpIII Obi Wan
Darth Maul

Han
Boba Fett

Kylo
Poe

Somehow I missed Chewie, he was in stock & I thought I had grabbed him for sure - maybe I left him in the car???

So all I'm left wanting are the Luke/Leia & Rey/Finn sets, as well as a Vader single figure and Chewie if I truly forgot him. Hopefully I can get them all at the clearance price.

I did, FF, thanks for the heads up. I'm going to bypass those in hopes of just getting all the basic ones I want for the price I like!  :artoo:

Managed to score the starter pack & the rest of the single figures at clearance prices. Just need Luke/Leia & Rey/Finn sets now.

Good scores!!  When they came out with the light up versions and they were retailer specific, I was not happy....

I might grab those now if I find them in the wild.
