Toys at The Bay
« on: September 18, 2016, 05:15:35 PM »

I was looking for some socks today and stopped in to The Bay at the mall. Imagine my surprise when I found a large, new toy section. A quite sizeable section of the floor, though mostly Lego, there were aisles for all the major toy brands. Prices seemed in line with TRU. Might be a good place to watch for sales. It's nice to see toys back at The Bay.

Also noticed they sell online:

Most likely similar to what Sears had been doing the few years, stocking some toys in the lead up to Christmas. They usually had some pretty decent sales right before and after Christmas. Could happen with The Bay too (hopefully the Lego!)

I have no idea what the article says since it requires a subscription, but I just spied this in the Google News headlines for the night:

The linked article can be read in Firefox with NoScript (not allowing theglobeandmail.com) or in the Edge browser directly. It is a short 3 paragraph article which states Hudson's Bay is bringing toy departments back to about 60 of their 90 stores because they sense an opportunity. Toy sales are said to be on a rebound "helped by hot Star Wars toys and higher prices ...".

Cool. Maybe we can look forward to the annual opening of Toyland again :). Here's an old Bay ad announcing the opening of Toyland for the Christmas shopping season in 1978 when Star Wars was king:

Stopped by The Bay again today and found they'd stocked the Rogue One 3.75" line ($9.99 each) and the Black Series 6" ($27.99). Cheaper than TRU, at least, and they had all the figures from the first waves in stock.
