I just finished this book on a recent trip. I can't wait to see Rogue One after reading it, and that may alter my overall opinion of the book. For now, I think it is a good, but not great, book. Interesting read, good introduction to Orson Krennic, especially, and to a lesser extent, Galen and Lyra Erso. Jyn Erso is in the book, but only as a child, and really there is next to no character development for her.

I will try to post again after seeing Rogue One tomorrow to let people know whether this is an indispensable read to fully appreciate the movie, or just a bit of extra fluff.

Thanks Brian. I enjoyed the movie & have thus decided I want to read the book - I will await your opinion before getting started though!

Not sure if anyone would consider it a spoiler or not but was there any hint at the backstory on Jyn's parents? My feeling was that her mother may have had some connection to the Force (anything from an almost-paldawan to perhaps simply being a believer, like the whole Church of the Force thing that I think Lor San Tekka was supposedly involved with).

Trying not to spoil it, but I did purchase the book yesterday along with the R1 novelization. Moving through R1 first then I'll come here & post thoughts on Catalyst. I've enjoyed James Luceno's books in the past, hopefully this works as well.

I do feel like Catalyst adds to the enjoyment of Rogue One by helping understand who Krennic is and why he is doing what he is doing, and also to better understand his relationship with Galen Erso.

It does give some (but not tons) of info regarding Lyra Erso and her beliefs about the Force.

About to start the Rogue One novelization.

Hi...

I just wanted to post that I found a website (in Canada) that has a pretty good deal on some older Star Wars books.  I collect hardcovers and have fallen way behind but was able to catch up a little bit here.  One thing though - the books will have a small black dot on the bottom or top of the pages because they are return/recalls that did not sell.  All of the books that I've ordered have showed up mint enough for my taste.

Anyway I posted it here because they still have Catalyst in stock for about $13.

Starting Catalyst but this one may take me a while.  Finding it a bit dull at first.
