Carrie Fisher has passed away
« on: December 27, 2016, 05:04:12 PM »

Just saw this on the news seconds ago. I'm still in shock. It was to be expected given she stopped breathing for 10 minutes and that greatly reduced her odds of surviving. But still.

A very bright, shining star at the center of the Star Wars galaxy has been extinguished. In response, a million voices cried out, "Why take her? It was NOT her time!!!"  but there was only silence.

RIP, Carrie Fisher... you will be greatly missed.

Fisher also understood the immortality granted by a role that was such a massive part of pop culture. At her August appearance at Wizard World Chicago, Fisher was asked about the passing of her Star Wars co-star Kenny Baker (the actor inside R2-D2) just a few days prior. “I don’t really connect with the fact that he is gone,” Fisher said. “If you’re in Star Wars, you really never go.” —Denny Watkins

Oh man, 2016, is Donald Trump the only celebrity left at the end? If so, stop now & let me off.  :(

Just saw Rogue One again tonight with the kids - it was nice that her character was the last one speaking on the screen and mentioning "hope".    I teared up  :(  .    She will be missed.

Feel like a piece of me died today. Something about some of the photos of her from a New Hope really got me. Seeing her so young and just starting out and probably just a little over a decade older than many of us who saw ANH in the theatres way back when...brings up all sorts of thoughts and emotions! Wishing you could go back to then! Realizing how fast time passes and every life that seems like it will last forever never does.  Such sweet memories made more precious or something.

And now, as if her family and friends have not suffered enough, TMZ is reporting that Debbie Reynolds has been rushed to the hospital after a possible stroke. She was at her son's home discussing funeral arrangements for her daughter Carrie when the stroke happened.

EDIT: TMZ is now reporting that only a day after the passing of her daughter, Debbie Reynolds has also died.  You couldn't write a more sadder end to the Fisher story than this. Reynolds was 84 years old.

I was actually wondering if they knew Carrie was not going to make it and kept her alive just so she would not die on Christmas.

Next Christmas is when they will be releasing her last appearance on the big screen in Star Wars VIII .   I am thinking it will be a great celebration of her life and enough time will have past for the family, that they can join in the celebration .

So now the creators have the tough choice to make - if she "dies" in the movie, how do they roll they out tastefully?

More on topic - I'm very sad to hear about Debbie Reynolds too - not that I was in any way a fan, more just because of the timing & the pain the whole family must be feeling. No Christmas at all.  :fighting0072:

she couldnt handle it. its unreal a day apart. it does happen though. a friend of mines dad passed away and within 24 hours his brother also died. the priest said hes never seen anything like that in the 20 years he had been doing funerals. very sad. this year really sucks for people passing away. :/

Both Debbie and Carrie shot to super stardom by one movie early in their careers: Debbie's was Singin in The Rain and Carrie's was Star Wars.   If you go to AFI's web site will see the top 100 movies of all time.  Singing in the Rain is #5 and Star Wars is in number #13.  One year I decided to watch all of the movies on the list and if you have the time - I would highly suggest it.  It was great experience and introduced me to some movies I may not have ever seen if I had not taken the time to watch everything on the list.
