I think I was assuming what you're saying JJ but now that I read that I realize that yes, it is true that Rey seemed to be his focus even such that he would "lie" to get to go to Starkiller base to help rescue her so...perhaps he wasn't as all in as we'd assumed because he participated in that. I mean, he's been unconscious since and when he wakes up he's stuck with the Resistance but his focus still seems to be Rey (even if it is easy to misread that he wants to go ONLY to make sure she doesn't come back to a trap). I think a line or two could have helped clear that up maybe instead of assuming the audience would remember he was a bit fuzzy on where he stood vis a vis anything but Rey. But I'll watch it again with this in mind, perhaps there were indications that I simply overlooked.
