In the midst of all of the director firings, I guess Rian Johnson stands out as someone Lucasfilm loved working with! They announced today that he will be developing a new Star Wars trilogy, I presume taking place after Episode 9.

There will also be a new Star Wars TV show, which will be on a new Disney streaming service.

I'm actually conflicted about this. I like stories to have an end and I can't keep collecting forever. Chances are they will probably lure me in by the time the new movies and tv show come out though.

I have felt it - a disturbance in the force telling me they have finally taken it too far. I thought the day would never come where I could safely wait for the next Marvel movie to hit home release before I saw - well I'm there easily now..... Star Wars is going the exact same way.

I get the feeling that the TV show will be based on that Underworld premise that was being worked on before the big Disney buyout... but man, they better not use that silly idea of Palpatine being a good guy until he had his heart broken and turned evil.  Jeez, that does not need to happen.

There's every reason to think that Rian will get to do something set in the distant past of SW e.g. Old Republic; it can't be something in the far future, since I think that anything post-eps9 will always involve the Skywalkers in some form. Or I guess it could be stories that are very niche e.g. focusing on one singular world like Endor, Lothal, Bespin, etc. 

Anyway, given that the Old Republic is still popular with longtime fans, a trilogy of flicks devoted to that era would likely be a safe start.

If nothing else this makes me feel pretty positively towards The Last Jedi.

After watching The Last Jedi last night I am not at all looking forward to this new trilogy.  At least the standalone's are decent so far.

All of the critical reviews have been positive.  More so than the last two movies, and Lucasfilm is feeling confident with him.

Didn't like his shakeups in TLJ but to start something completely new I'm still fine with.  Lets see what he can do without the existing characters.
