im new and i have some questions
« on: January 10, 2005, 03:15:52 AM »

Hey everyone, Ive been a star wars fan since i was three and i use to have a huge collection that my mom gave away when i wasnt home about  15 years ago. so now im starting to collect again and am intersted in  afa graded cards. so my first question is how rare are canadian cards and is there a way to find out how many of each card are guesstimated to exist?  Also  i have a 65 back logray moc with the logray blacked out on the back. Would this card be expecially rare? Im glad that canada got there own version of the otc but am dissapointed that the u.s. got the better looking card. Is it known how many canadian otc cards were made?I've been making a price list for afa graded figures and have a few blanks that id like to fill in, how would i find them?  Thats it for now, dont forget im new so cut me some slack.  Later

Welcome to the boards Peter. I can only speak in reference to your vintage questions but i hope it helps.

Canadian cards were produced in far fewer quantities when comapred to their US counterparts which makes them a little harder to track down but they are certainly out there and by no means hard to find. Trying to pinpoint exact numbers is virtually impossible and it's easier to list card types in order of rarity.

Of course, Cdn 12 backs are some of the rarest with the La Guerre Des Etoilles (GDE) pyramid logos being the most sought after.

ESB 21 backs are also quite rare and sought after.

Most ESB and ROTJ cards are relatively easy to find and not that rare.

While the Canadian pieces are around less, they don't command premium prices because of lack of overall interest.

Your Logray is a typical 65 back, they all had the Ewoks blacked out so there's nothing rare or exceptional about it. Now, if you had a 77 back Logray, that'd be a different story. ;)

so my first question is how rare are canadian cards and is there a way to find out how many of each card are guesstimated to exist?

It is virtually impossible to determine how many on each card currently exists. You can gauge a little by asking other collectors, but only a fraction of the collecting community is online or interact regularly with other collectors.

With precious few exceptions like the Leia Poncho, Nikto, Prune Face and a few others from the ROTJ release, just about all of the Canadian figures are tougher to find than their American counterparts. Some are only known to number a few examples in the collecting world.

You can check out more information on the vintage Canadian Star Wars line here:

Also  i have a 65 back logray moc with the logray blacked out on the back. Would this card be expecially rare?

All of the Canadian ROTJ first release 65-backs came with the Ewoks blacked out:

Im glad that canada got there own version of the otc but am dissapointed that the u.s. got the better looking card. I believe the complete set of 38 appear on Canadian OTC starburst cards. The new transitional characters are also appearing on starburst cards in Canada as well.

Thanks for the info. I know that the two ewoks were black out but found it odd that logray had a card and was blacked out at the same time. Just seem to me that it would be rarer than say a leia poncho with the two ewoks blacked out.

It would be rarer since the Leia Poncho never came on a 65-back  ;) j/k

All of the first Canadian ROTJ release figures came on identical 65 back cards so no one is particularly more rare than any other in that sense.

There are some figures that are more rare due to availability these days obviously.

It's about as odd as finding Nien Nunb on a Nien Nunb mail away offer card. Yet another fun little piece of Canadiana....although the Nunb is faaaar harder to find that a 65 Logray.

Shane,

More news for you to pull your hair out.

I have both Nien Nunb with the Nunb offer, and a Logray on 77-back card.  Both are dead mint, with nice, crystal clear bubbles, and are unpunched.  The Logray is on a US card - is that rare, or were you only referring to a Canadian 77-back?

Anyway, here's the kicker I know you'll love.

Mike Quinn and Mike Edmonds have signed Nunb and Logray respectively (I have the pics of them signing to prove legitimacy of the autograph).

I didn't know either were exceptionally 'rare' - what kind of values do these command?
