What's with you guys? That was part of my beef, I hate it when people compare this to that. Who gives a s**t! >:(
I like Star Trek. I Watch it all the time and it doesn't take away my passion for Star Wars. Thats comparing apples to oranges. But hey, if your that narrow minded and immature so be it ::)
Oh, and if you still want to whine, waaaaaaaa.

Hey, just answering a question, dude.  It was entirely opinion, as I love SW and don't care for ST.  I was just having some fun, but to each his own. ;)

This is childish, I enjoy both franchises and any SiFi in general. The truth is it that both franchises have put nothing good out in years. SW was built on the original trilogy as the last 2 movies have been bad...I know lets see about 3, but clearly Lucas has lost touch with his fans. The Trek series has died a horrible death since Berman and Baraga have tried to rewrite the time line and have produced very little watchable stuff since TNG, and don't get me start on Enterprise. So why not stop this discussion and start watching good SiFi, stuff with stories... Babylon 5, Farscape...etc..... Oh I know this is a SW board so they suck too....

ST was built on the premise that we will one day fix our problems and progress as a society, hope for mankind amongst the current state of affairs. SW is just fantasy, fun but fantasy. I have enjoyed both immensely and will not pick either as both have had bad run spans.

How can this question even come up?

I love SW.

I like Star Trek. (except DS9, that show was a steaming pile of crap)

They are in 2 totally different universes. 2 different times.

They are of no relation to each other. How can the 2 even be compared?

If someone ever thinks of doing a Star Wars VS Star Trek movie in the wake of Freddy VS Jason's success, I will cry.

Any self-proclaimed Star Trek connoisseur I speak with is convinced Star Wars wouldn't stand a chance if the two universes went toe-to-toe. I wrote up this posting to help me generate some valid arguments in SW's favour when I inevitably try to convince said parties of their error in judgement.

Is the concept of Star Wars vs. Star Trek impossible? I'm not sure it is. In comics, the Marvel Universe has fought the DC Universe. I've seen combinations of Terminator vs. Predator vs. Aliens vs. Superman vs. Judge Dredd. I've seen posters depicting X-Factor with ST too.

Beyond saying "this sucks" or "that rocks," SW vs. ST is an awesome opportunity to discuss possibilities. I thank everyone who has posted for your (continued) enthusiastic opinions!

Much as I love Star Wars and enjoy the movies more so than Trek, I like Trek too.

As far as a battle between the two goes, I only have this to say:

Seven of Nine. ???

gotta love it when fanboys eat their own

ok children, as a few people have pointed out - they are both not "science fiction"

SW is more like Lord of the Rings (fantasy) than ST

Trek is Sci fi - based on a 'what if" question - "what if mankind survives into the future to explore the galaxy - what might we find there and how would we relate?" - which always reflects back on the present
we treat people badly now=we will treat aliens badly
we can overcome our problems=we will overcome in the future

SW is a space fantasy - there is no 'what if'
it deals with archetypes and age-old stories
(long long ago in a galaxy far far away= not the future, and not technically "homo sapiens" of the planet earth)
poor peasant boy (everyman) yearns for something better and discovers he has a destiny and great ability and has an adventure, eventually coming out with a great learning
Joseph Campbel- the hero with a thousand faces
and it has cool adventure and aliens and explosions and all that fun stuff along the way

if ST is the left-brain (logical, pensive, achievement)
then SW is the right brain (affiliative, emotional)

they ain't in the same ball park except to ... well, people who don't think

balanced people (as always) can appreciate both

as my email sig file says: saying fantasy and science fiction are the same thing is like saying Sleepy Hollow and Dodge City are the same place because they both had horses

 :D
ok, here's an extra hint
horses=spaceships in the analogy

Star Trek - Holodeck : Star Wars - Dejarik Table, hmmm...

Anyway, MacGyver and the rest of the SG-1 crew would kick all their asses! (Only joking - don't want to get killed with my first post!)
