Who has more viewers?  Box office? "

Good question!

No Trek movie has had the box office of any of the SW movies - they sort of are in a class all their own - to my knowledge.

When TNG was winding down, I would have bet anything that, as a %, there were more Trek fans at the time than SW fans - but that was then.

Trekkers grew from humble beginnings at the end of the sixties and grew via reruns worldwide during the 70s.  (Photon torpedoes, tractor beams = lucas borrowed these, although he called them proton torpedoes - but ol George borrowed from everyone - because you can do that in fantasy)
When SW burst onto the scene, it killed any plans for a low-budget Trek remake and raised the bar and made Trekkers go "whoa, imagine what they could do with the new special effects"

ST The Motion Picture came out and did very good box office - although they had spent so much on the special effects they left out the human element that was good about the show and just had long slow boring special effects shots with annoying music

Wrath of Khan came out a few year later and is considered the best Trek movie - lots of action, phasers, and human interaction... and Spock died.

The (3x120) 360 plus or minus minutes of Star Wars footage has given birth to a lot of fan fiction and speculation, as with Trek, but until Phantom Menace, nothing canon

Ewoks and Droids cartoons - neither lasted long in the drought - late 80s - SW wasn't cool

late 80s - Trek was starting to return and be cool again

after Next Gen, Trek seemed to plateau and then fade - over exposure
you can't hunger for something if it is on every week and you learn more about Bajorans than anyone could care to know

rumours of SW returning started people yearning for their youth and the new tech in Special Editions got the ball rolling again... although, most people who saw ANH when age 7 are disappointed by the prequels

the bar was raised and the new films are struggling to hop over it

think: Swartenegger won Mr Universe 5 times in a row and was far and above the most superior bodybuilder at the time -bar none

nowadays, if he was still in his prime - he would barely qualify - honest

running a 4 minute mile was considered impossible at one time - now it is routine for olympic runners - what with better nutrition and training and knowledge

Trek has to compete against a ton of SF out there
SW has to compete against a ton of action movies out there
(for the youngsters, the Matrix and LOTR may be what SW ANH was to some of us)

both Trek and SW are part of the culture
the first SW movie hit the culture like a hammer and left a permanent indent
Trek clawed it's way into the psyche

on TV - Trek rules
on movie screens - SW rules

if there was a SW series - it would fade as well - IMHO

if there was one Trek movie every three years and no series - it would be revitalized... if they got rid of Braga especially

yes, I do think about these things all the time

He's dead, Jim
Use the force, Luke
Beam me up Scotty
Luke, I am your father

Raise shields, fire weapons ... oh, that could be anything ;)

Well don't get me wrong. I enjoy a number of the Star Trek shows. But let's face facts....Kirk and Picard would get their asses whipped in a second if ya put them up against Luke or Han.And Leia can pretty much wipe out most Star Trek chicks out there.Even the green bitch!
The only problem I see is Data against C-3PO...tough call.#Po's kinda queer at times so maybe they'd get into a pansy debate and they'd end up in a stalemate.
Now we all know Worf can kick butt but do ya thinks that he can take on a pissed off wookie?I don't think so. :D
Star Trek is all about being diplomatic....screw that.Let's go in there with a few headhunters and clean their clocks.
