Title: EP IX Trailer & Title Reveal (Merged)
Post by: brianakarobin on April 12, 2019, 01:20:48 PM
Oh

My

Gosh!!!!

 :party0007:

Did you guys see that trailer? So many questions, but it looks awesome!

The emperor laughing right after Luke says "no one is really gone", along with what looked like a crashed fragment of Death Star?

The title " The Rise of Skywalker"?  :luke:

Rey back-flipping over that TIE fighter?

Lando!!! :character0005:

Just so many cool things. I can't wait for it!

What do we think folks? "The Rise of Skywalker". I enjoyed the teaser & the panel for the most part.

I believe we heard Luke's voice to start & Palpatine's laughter to finish - Ian MacDiarmid coming out on stage to ask the crew to "Roll it again." in the Emperor's growl pretty much confirmed to me that Palpatine in some form will be a part of the story.

I'm not 100% sold on the title, but it looks interesting... I wonder how prominently the Emperor will figure into it (or if it's a bait-and-switch).

Although it has its flaws, I didn't hate episode VIII like some... so I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll all play out!

Enjoy your time and CELEBRATE!

I really, really hope they'll have the scene that was in the recent Darth Vader comic where we find out it was Palpatine who created Anakin.

The teaser raises so many questions, especially when the Fab 4 walk down the hill. Where's Rose? Is that the Death Star? Which one?

This got a "F*&^ Ya" from a couple cubicles in the office.

I did not like the Rey flip over the Tie,  Emperor kinda mixed on that is it bait n switch to get fans back or if he is back why now?  Also if back why last movie & even bother with Snoke.   Looked cool but not overly excited yet.  TLJ trailer looked good & it was terrible.   If Palps is back I guess no one ever dies in SW.   So if Palps is back bring back Luke for we can at least see 5 min of Old Luke in action.

So who is The rise of Skywalker?   Does Ben get redeemed, is Rey a Skywalker or does Luke get resurrected.   Also could be do to Luke saving everyone in TLJ & having everyone band together for the final fight.

Brianakarobin, that must have been bananas sitting in that hall with that audience and seeing that trailer! I remember being at Celebration when the Ep3 trailer and title dropped - everyone lost it and went nuts!

It was bananas, for sure!

There was a ton of excitement for all of it - the Rey flip (I actually thought it was awesome, too, but to each their own), the scene with Kylo stabbing some dude with the side blade of his sabre, the Lando scene, etc. But nothing got the crowd going like the emperor laughing and the title reveal. No one knows what it means - bait and switch is very possible at this point. But, man, the possibilities. So when the lights came on and then Ian McDiarmid was standing there and, in his Darth Sidious voice, said "Roll it again", people went truly bananas :party0007:

VERY impressive. Gotta say I'm getting excited all over again. The Last Jedi really disappointed me, but this one is looking good early on.

Do my eyes deceive me - is the radar dish on the Millennium Falcon round again? Maybe Lando felt bad for wrecking the original radar dish and replaced it with a similar model  ;)

Anakin's lightsaber has been fixed.

My thoughts are; I loved it.  Not to go on too much of a rant here but I really really really wanted to like TLJ more than I did but after a year and a half I have to rank it at the bottom of my Star Wars movie list.  I'll still watch it from time to time and the Kylo/Rey/guard fight and the Kylo/Luke scene were great (and Yoda!) but there was just too much there that I didn't like (Canto Bight).  I just wish that Luke was handled differently.

Anyway I was able to catch the panel this morning and one thing that I though I heard JJ say was that (paraphrasing) the one good thing that came out of TLJ was the actor that plays Rose.  I took that as, and I'm reading between the lines, we are going to fix some things with RoS.

I think Rey is on Tatooine (not Jaaku).  I think she is there and it has something to do with Obi Wan.  And everyone is on a Desert Skiff later in the teaser.

At the end, I believe that's Death Star II.  I would think they are on Endor and that they are there to search the Death Star ruins for something.  I don't think that Palpatine is still alive but, if the gang is there to search the ruins, Palp could appear to them.  He can't live on as a force ghost but Sith can still "haunt" a place of significance.  The Death Star would qualify, since that's where he died.

My predictions: we see Luke, Obi Wan, & Qui Gon, we get a Ewok cameo, we visit a lot of OT worlds, and Rey's parents are presented for real.  I'm very excited now and if tickets went on sale today I probably would have bought the whole theater.

Chewie destroyed the square radar dish in the tunnel on Crait in The Last Jedi (check the ovie again, you'll see it, it's very subtle but it's there). The scene was clearly reminiscent of Lando crashing the radar dish in ROTJ. So Lando simply replaced the dish for E9.

Leaving this in The Cave for now, will move to movies once things have simmered down a little bit.

One of my initial reactions was: I do NOT want a time travel movie - but I'm trying really hard not to allow myself wants & don't wants. What I truly want is to be back in that universe for 2 more hours and regardless of where the movie takes us I will get that.  :artoo: :artoo: :artoo:

Jut a few lines...

Yesterday, I learned that cancer is back in my life again. My wife's cervix cancer is back, this time in 3 nodes. After 3 years of calm, she's back into it. She'll be having chemo treatment for the next 6 months, trying to prevent it from spreading. And this time her treatments will have the worse effects, including the loss of her hair. It's awfully difficult. Our 4 daughters are devastated, it's their worse fears turned reality. My wife tries to stay calm, but anxiety has reached a peak. The fear of dying lives all around us now, it's spreading like the disease it came from. There's no say if this will work or how long she has. I'm trying to stay positive and strong, leaving my own emotions and feelings buried within. But it's tough. It's a nightmare... :(

So in this dark time, this new Star Wars trailer is like a ray of light. It gave me the shivers. It told me it's gonna be fun. I loved TFA, I liked TLJ (I was destabilized by the movie, but certainly did not hate it). And this teaser trailer we've just been given makes me wish that the movie would be released sooner. Because this might be the one rare "detached from reality" joyful moment I'll have in the coming months... maybe years.

I just wanted to say this: be content with what you're given. Don't think too much. This is entertainment, it' not real life. Real life is often tough and dirty, dark, difficult to digest. Movies? They can be bad, they can be good. Some will be excellent. Some boring as Hell. Star Wars Movies? They're supposed to be candy and fun for people who likes Star Wars. Most people think they are. I think in the end it's what you want them to be. If you're viewing these with too much criticism, it'll ruin your fun...

When was that? Other than seeing Ian McDiarmid, I didn't see any confirmation afterwards. I am sure he is in it, but whether alive or as a ghost or something, who knows?

I would add an Anakin appearance to those of the Force ghosts you mention, as well.

Sorry to hear, JediPatrick - my sister just died last week of bowel cancer. You just never know. I hope that things work out well for your wife.

Star Wars can be a great escape, that's for sure. I think this one looks like it could be a fun romp in the GFFA. I guess time will tell, but I will remain optimistic and we'll see what happens.

Cash Fan - I remember JJ's comment about Rose. I don't remember exactly how he said it, and at the time I didn't really think of it as a way of him trashing Episode 8 rather than just expressing how grateful he was to have been given the character of Rose (and Kelly who played her), but in retrospect, that was maybe what he was saying.

JediPatrick, so sorry to hear that.  My wife had thyroid cancer within months of us getting married 15 years ago.  A couple of years ago her mom was diagnosed with Amyloidosis and my wife was able to donate her a kidney.  Now the disease is back and I'm afraid the time we have with her mother is very short.  One day at a time I guess.

Brain, my condolences to you and your family.

Apparently JJ asked George Lucas to help with the ending.  And he did!

JJ was quoted in the above story that he was surprised that they were able to keep it a secret that Ian McDiarmid was filming on set.

JediPatrick, Brianakarobin, cash_fan - thinking of you guys. It痴 a terrible disease in any form. My wife痴 side of the family has a history of breast cancer and a couple of years ago we found out that it was due to a genetic predisposition that was passed down, the BRCA mutation, and she and her sister got genetic testing. All but one of them have it, which means that their chances of developing cancer is much higher down the line; in fact, their cousin recently died from it.

I知 always pleased to talk Star Wars and to help others in collecting, but if you ever just need to chat - drop me a line.

Guys, a huge thanks for your prayers. I read your messages earlier this week, but I'm still quite shocked by all this, maybe I'm still in denial, thinking everything will be all right. But the thing is, this is more serious than we first thought it was. My wife is trying to be lucid, maybe too much for me to handle at the time being. Everything tells us we're looking at years... and not that many years in fact. :(

To add to all this, my own sister is currently facing a cancer that has spread thru her lungs. It's been two years. We don't know how long she'll be fighting.

Brianakarobin, my condolences to you and your family. This is truly terrible.  :'(

Ookk, my own mother died of breast cancer because it was caught too late and she couldn't get rid of it after a first treatment and surgery. :( Hope your wife will avoid this threat with regular checkups. I think that's really the key, catching this at the earliest stage possible.

I have my kids to help me stay focused and stay strong. But Star Wars is indeed what will help me keep my sanity thru all this I guess, a way of escaping reality a bit. I really look forward for this new movie. I don't think it'll be perfect (nothing is, really), but I'll certainly try to enjoy it as much as I can.

Because I'm still in the awe mode, digesting the good stuff!  :)

And I'm also enthusiast about The Mandalorian and Kenobi.

But couldn't care less about Resistance Season 2. And even Clone Wars... I mean... we're way past Clone Wars. Too little too late for me. I want adult SW stuff, not kids stuff.

I hear you -  I remember ROTS coming out and being pleasantly surprised it wasn't nearly as bad as the previous two movies - it's still not even close to a great SW movie, just not as bad as TPM or AOTC.

I think that's the best we can hope for at this point.  Although full disclosure, I mostly like TFA.

It's kind of funny - for my 9yo daughter, ROTS is her favourite one. It also happens to be the only one of the PT/OT with a PG-13 rating (we don't own Ep7 or 8, so she doesn't even watch those). Not sure why, but I think she likes the parts with Anakin killing everyone. Maybe she'll grow up to be a Sith.

Well if she's the Sith apprentice and she considers you to be the master, you'd better sleep with one eye open! :)

Saw the D23 trailer. JTA reporting that Dark Rey is just a vision, but that would be disappointing if true. I'd rather she turn out to be a clone that Palpatine intended to inhabit or use as his pawn/apprentice, and that we get to see the fulfilment of this plan.  So if nothing else, Kylo duels her and actually wins (ironically scoring a victory for the good guys).

From a screenwriting perspective, the protagonist of the sequel trilogy isn't Rey, it's Kylo Ren. He lost to the "bad guy" (Rey) in TFA, then overcame a huge obstacle in TLJ (killing his master, then surviving the onslaught against the Praetorian Guard) to get a reward (leadership), and his final challenge to complete his journey would be to now defeat the villain that he initially lost to in the first movie...

I liked the new trailer. The sith-like Rey was interesting, but I don't want to speculate too much or read anything online about it, as I don't want to spoil the story. The crazy number of Star Destroyers is a bit crazy for me - not sure how the First Order got all of those resources, surpassing even what the Empire had in it's heyday despite ruling the entire galaxy for several decades.

the beginning homage to the OT reaffirmed how much I hate what they did to the characters I grew up with.

This is my speculation on the star destroyers.  It's an Imperial Fleet graveyard.  Similar to retired airplane graveyards in Nevada and Utah.  Why they have to go there, is another speculation for another day.

The Luke quote stays true to the basic message of Star Wars "confronting fear is the destiny of a jedi". Basically saying you have it within you to walk through a wall of fire if you believe in yourself.
