Other Star Wars Toys & Collectibles / Star Wars Movie Posters
« on: September 16, 2020, 05:16:10 PM »
Didn't see a thread on posters. I dont actively collect these as I have no faith in my ability to authenticate them. Plus I have no wall space!

But Disney movie rewards has now re-added physical merchandise to their site. Well sort of. As of now the system is down and has been since their noon eastern launch 5 hours ago.

But if it does get going they have a few recent SW movie posters including Rogue 1, ROS, and Last Jedi teasers and one sheets.

My understanding is these are legit collectibles and not just reprints. But maybe someone else here can weigh in on that.

I was looking since I have a bunch of points from my kid's disney movies and was curious to see what was available.

Anyway just thought I'd post in case there's any poster aficionados.

Didn't see a thread for indigo.ca

They have the retro Hoth board game on sale right now for $26 if anyone is still looking. Amazon is price matching as well.

Wow! $400US. That's about 4 times what I paid for the first release of this vehicle. Really shows how pricing on this line has gone through the roof. Waaay beyond the rate of inflation. It will be interesting to see how well this sells, particularly with the economy the way it is right now.

Non-Star Wars Toys / G.I. Joe: Classified 6" line
« on: February 21, 2020, 11:09:08 PM »
Well I was kind of excited to see these and now that they've revealed snake eyes scarlet roadblock and Duke I'm rather disappointed.

The designs just look off. Like they're so close but they just did enough weirdness to really mess them up. What's with all the goofy shin pads? And the goofy gold? And what is that thing roadblock is holding?

I thought this line would be more along the lines of pursuit of cobra or the sideshow Joes. PoC was a near perfect modernizing of many of the figures. Instead it seems to be leaning too much to the 90s goofiness that killed the Joe line back in the day.

Snake eyes is pretty cool, though again not quite right. Just a little off. Too busy and not really a modern version of either v1 or v2 snake eyes like I was expecting. More like the CD rom version that came out in the early 2000s. A weird choice.

Anyway I thought I was going to get sucked in and be all in for this line. Instead, my first impression is I'm going to be very choosy. With wave 1 only snake eyes has me interested in actually spending money.

Lego / shopping at lego.com
« on: November 27, 2019, 11:47:34 PM »
Anyone ever shop at lego.com?

Was looking at the shop and wondering if they charge customs fees when shipping to Canada. They offer free shipping on orders over $35 and the charge tax. But their website mentions a customs broker... I'd hate to order something and get hit with extra fees. It also says they use fedex, which is more expensive than canada post customs clearance. Anyone have any experience shopping there?

The Black Series 6" Figure Line / Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary
« on: February 23, 2019, 08:40:13 AM »
I'm surprised nobody seems to be talking about this here. Did anyone vote? If so, who for?

I didn't go crazy and try and vote at all the different websites. I placed a couple votes for the Hoth Rebel Trooper since I'm a sucker for anything Hoth.

ESB is probably the least exciting for secondary character designs, since there's no Cantina or Jabba's Palace, so the ones that seem to be floating to the top are all pretty expected and I'd be happy with any of them (except Wilrow Hood). And despite my votes for the hoth trooper, it would be nice to see more aliens and droids in the line. FX-7 and a couple Ugnaughts would be cool. And a probe droid.

I really hope Wilrow Hood doesn't win. It was fine in 3.75, and I'm happy to have him. But the 3.75 line is soo deep compared to the 6", there are way more priorities than Hood for this line.

Amended the title to make this the overall 40th ESB topic, not just for the Fan's Choice vote. - jj

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Star Wars Resistance
« on: October 08, 2018, 12:11:00 AM »
Just noticed Showcase is running a SW marathon. TFA is on tonight. But tomorrow sandwiched in between ROTJ and TFA at what looks to be about 6:15pm on my PVR is the debut of Resistance. Looks to be a 1 hr premiere.

I'm not exactly clamoring for new SW in this era. Especially after TLJ and how much of a tool Poe Dameron was, this seems like an odd choice to focus a series on. Anyway I'm definitely going to check it out.

Wanted to give folks a heads up as I just stumbled upon this. Star Wars cartoon on Showcase... odd but welcome.

Other Star Wars Toys & Collectibles / Hot Wheels
« on: July 26, 2018, 10:04:16 AM »
Surprisingly I couldn't find an existing hot wheels thread. I haven't really been collecting these since I have titanium and focus primarily on OT stuff there hasn't been much of interest to me.

But I saw these concept vehicles from hot whhels a little while ago and they showed up at SDCC. Anyone know if these have come out in, or are coming to, Canada? They look really cool and I love concept stuff so these are a must for me.

Video Games / Nintendo Classic Edition
« on: September 07, 2016, 10:28:34 PM »
Anyone else see this?

www.nintendo.com/en_CA/nes-classic

I don't really play video games, but this would be a great system for me. It has most of the nintendo games I used to play with my friends, which I would love to play again on a casual basis. It seems it's already gearing up to be the scarce Christmas gift this year. At least for bigger kids like me. :) Though my 12 year old nephew seemed pretty keen on it as well. He's the one that told me about it!

Anyone know when or where it will be made available for pre-order in Canada? I haven't been able to find anything online other than "Available Nov 11".

Scout Report / Figure Skating Cairo Ren

Here's a new one, I hope this isn't a spoiler:

Star Wars black series 6 inches figure skating Cairo Ren:

I don't see any skates! Cheap Hasbro skimping on the accessories again!

Scout Report / Toys R Us has 30% off their action figures
« on: November 21, 2014, 02:41:15 PM »
Surprised this hasn't hit the boards yet (unless I missed it).

Just got back from my local TRU and they have 30% off all action figures, playsets and role play. They had 2 fresh cases of rebels figures, so I grabbed the 2 stormtroopers and a couple others. Man, talk about a throw back; the sale price is LESS than $5 per figure. Paint apps on these looked a lot better than the legends figures in previous packaging. The jedi Luke looks great.

They also had the Ree Yees wave, so you can grab them if you want em.

Scout Report / Hot wheels found in Canada
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:00:19 AM »
I found the new Star Wars Hot Wheels cars (well, actually just three of the Vader car) on the weekend. I passed, just not interested, even though at least they're not just recycled cars with a new Star Wars paint job. They're pretty creative. I think they were priced at roughly $6, which is ridiculous for a dinky car. I get licencing fees, and the fact they won't be able to reuse these molds for anything other than SW, but 5 times what a regular dinky car goes for?

Oh well, happy hunting if these are your thing. :)

Wampa Cave / Why do collectible stores do this?
« on: June 17, 2014, 10:59:20 AM »
I popped into a local collectibles/comics shop here in Vaughan. Never been there before, but I was mainly looking for a source for the upcoming Planet of the Apes figures that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. No success on that front, their prices are too high. But I digress...

As I was browsing around this huge store (and it is huge as these kind of stores go) I came across a wall of pegs stuffed with green carded holo and freeze frame SW figures and a bunch of carded Ep I figures. And EVERY SINGLE one was priced at $59.99 each!! I nearly burst out laughing at the absurdity! These are the figures collectors can barely give away. The market for these is probably in the range of $3-$5 each. so the question is why? What's the point? They just sit and collect dust.

The only theory I can think of is they are hoping for some unsuspecting parent or grandparent who knows nothing about these things to prey on. I know this works since it happened to my mom once many years ago. That store lost my business forever after that, so really they lost in the long run. But is this their reasoning? and how often does this work?

As to other reasons, they could not have nearly that much invested in them to need to recover costs. And despite the hugeness of this store, they do not need more crap to fill it out. The place is overstuffed and cramped.  I get that in a given case assortment you need to balance the costs of peg warmers with more desirable figures by marking up to some extent, but when it is a 2000% markup over the market value, it just seems really odd.

I'm really curious, why have a wall of crappy figures priced at $59.99 each? Any store owners (current or past) have any theories? I'm genuinely curious!
