Video Games / Star Wars N64 Pod Racer on PS4 2020
« on: July 10, 2020, 09:04:43 PM »
Just downloaded this game and I am schooling my 17 year old son on my N64 video game skills.   New track recorded every time .......of course I am the first player.....he is beating me each time but he is getting the advantage of seeing the course after I have run it and he also cheats by using the boost feature.  I prefer to have my engines on fire, blow up one and spin around in circles ! :P    Not a bad retro game for $20.

Just went into see a movie at the Ancaster Cineplex.  They just got their shipment of Star Wars Merchandise for sale at the concession.  I was told I was first person to purchase the mega souvenir .  It is a 17 " high R2D2 that holds your pop and your popcorn.  It comes with a pop and a popcorn.  I also upgraded and got the Star Wars cup with the C3P0 topper. And if you want to line up a bunch of movies to watch - you get free re-fills of pop and popcorn until January 31, 2019.  I assume I have to bring my R2D2 to each movie - not sure if I have to buy him a seat ?  They have about 6 toppers - R2D2 & C3P0, Kylo, Rey, Red Stormtrooper and I think another character but I believe R2 & C3P0 were the only OT characters.   They also have metal buckets with Star Wars pictures on the outside of the bucket - I think 2 different versions - to hold your popcorn.  The coolest thing was the R2D2 - but he comes with a heavy price tag $49.99 . But if you plan on seeing a lot of movies over the holidays and eating a lot of popcorn and pop - you can get some value out of it.

Now if I can only get that Columbia Star Wars coat and take in my R2D2 to the first showing of Star Wars - I am all but assured of getting that standing ovation  :) .

Off Topic / Is Toys'R'US Canada doing a great job?
« on: October 10, 2019, 02:06:08 PM »
Just wondering what your thoughts are on Toys'R'US Canada and whether you think they are doing a great job of connecting with their customer base and building love for their brand.  Here is what happened today at my local Toys'R'US .

Major excitement this morning at my TRU store. Got there at 9:30 am and there was a very big line up outside of it. Much Larger than TRIPLE FORCE Friday.  Of course that could only mean one thing word had gotten out that TRU was getting the Jabba The Hutt Palace and it was on yesterday's truck.   So I quickly joined the line , you could feel the excitement of the crowd.  The doors open - I quickly make my way in and tons of staff and corporate TRU executives and security guards all over.  Man they are ready for some massive fighting and jabs over Jabba Palace.   I round the corner to see the new Star Wars home - nothing they have shrunk the overall Star Wars section.  No ones is headed for the Star Wars section but me.  What in the world is going on..........................is Harry Potter on sale?  Barbie? what were all the people at the store for.............they were all lined in the middle of store.....there is a stage at the back of the store....oh my goodness they are going to have a JEDI Academy at TRU - my mind blows up at how amazing this is going to be.   I race to the line pushing several small children out of the way.   I secure my spot..........guess who is coming to my TRU in person and will be performing ............ THE WIGGLES !!!!!!!!

Have to say I am very impressed with the new vision that TRU has for themselves.  I think they are trying to make their stores a destination of fun not just a big box Toy Store.  Bravo Toys'R'US .  And I still think the Jedi Academy would be a great idea.

Star Wars Movies & TV shows / Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Adventure Awaits
« on: October 01, 2019, 09:32:49 AM »
Not sure if anyone else saw on Sunday this show televised on ABC Spark.   Neil Patrick Harris hosted a behind-the-scenes look at the new lands at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and at Disneyland Resort in Southern California. Celebrity guests include Kaley Cuoco, Keegan-Michael Key, Jay Leno, Sarah Hyland and Miles Brown.

The show was 2 hours long and was basically a 2 hour advertisement to come to Disney Parks to see the new Star Wars area.   As of now the area is just one ride where you pretend you are flying the MF and you and 5 other crew members hit buttons that fly, shoot etc. in order to achieve your mission.   George Lucas referred to it as Star Tours on steroids. The rest of the area is there to sell you a light saber, a droid, blue and green milk and other Star Wars space food, drink and collectables.  This December in Florida and this January in California there will be a grand opening of another ride in the area.  They played up the interaction with characters that are walking the street a lot.   In other words bring your imagination and use the setting they have built and the characters whether it be Chewie or the people selling you stuff and pretend you are really in a space port in the Star Wars Galaxy.

I look forward some day to seeing it and experiencing it - but after watching the 2 hour commercial I did not have a feeling of wow I gotta go. In fact I more felt like I would wait a couple years until they have a few more attractions.

Not sure if anyone has been there yet to share their experience or anyone else watched the special and had a different reaction to the show.

Scout Report / Is Walmart USA carrying Star Wars ?
« on: August 25, 2019, 12:46:08 PM »
I am just down in Florida and went to a local Walmart which is a Superstore and they do not have a Star Wars section.  They only Star Wars Hasbro figures are in the clearance section - about 6.  I have never seen this before - no pegs for Star Wars.   Has Walmart decided to not carry them anymore?

Just started watching this show with my wife.  We have watched 4 episodes of season #1 and we love it.  Love the eighties theme/poltergeist/x-files feel of the show.   We were surprised that a lot of kids seem to be watching it - seems pretty scary for them.  Just hoping it stay as good as we move through the seasons.

Other Movies - Music - TV Entertainment / Aquaman vs. Bumble Bee
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:03:06 AM »
Aquaman is easily the best Superhero movie of the year.   Obviously better than anything Marvel has ever produced - all combined x100.   I think the best comparative movie would be Black Panther.   Everyone in the family liked Aquaman.  Best part after of course the flute playing, was when he was a little kid and the other kids were picking on him.   Both my daughter and I thought after the princess gave her long name and then said but you can call me .....she should have said  "Ariel"  with that green outfit and really red hair.   The theatre I was in everyone clapped at the end.   And the political aspect of the movie were right on point with what the world is dealing with in term of all the garbage going into the sea.   Rottentomatoes - 65%

Bumble Bee , it is OK but at the end of the day it is just another Transformer movie.  If you like them you will like this movie.  If you are getting board of them, skip it for now but give it a try for rental, because it was written by a woman and not directed by Michael Bay so it is definitely a different movie.   Rottentomatoes - 93%

Regarding the Rottentomatoes scores I really don't put much value in them now.  I think reviewers are being paid off or the system is being manipulated by outside forces.  A couple years ago I used to put a fair amount of trust in the score.  Now I find the rating to be completely wrong.   I liked both movies I saw, but no way is Bumble Bee a 93% and no way is Aquaman a 65%.  I would probably give Bumble Bee 75-80% and Aquaman 85-90%.

Wampa Cave / Fairfax has made a $300 Million bid for TOYSRUS Canada
« on: April 20, 2018, 07:42:15 AM »
Fairfax has made a $300 Million dollar bid for Toysrus Canada.  Toysrus has until Monday to hear from any other bidders.   Some of the highlights of why Fairfax has made the bid are:  unlike the USA, Toysrus Canada is a profitable business also TOYSRUS Canada owns 22 of their 82 stores, so Fairfax is buying property that is worth $250 million and only paying an extra $50 million for the business.  This bid has set the bar for other people to beat.  The bid is what is called a "stalking horse bid" which allows other potential buyers to enter competing proposals by Monday. If another bid is presented, Fairfax would then have the option of either increasing its offer or walking away.  Earlier this week TOYSRUS rejected an offer from MGA Entertainment Inc.  Cross your fingers... this maybe the deal that saves TOYSRUS Canada.

Scout Report / Gentle Giant will start producing mass market toys
« on: February 16, 2018, 08:48:57 AM »
I found this interesting, just got an email announcing Gentle Giant Ltd. expands into the mass toy market.
My first thought was that the genesis of this idea came out of the fact over the last year or so it appeared that Hasbro gave Gentle Giant a hard time over using the Kenner name on it's packaging.   And now what was once a defensive move by Hasbro has put Gentle Giant on the offence and could possibly do more damage to Hasbro market share than had they just let Gentle Giant use the Kenner logo on it's packaging.  But when you see the range of products the story could be that Hasbro got wind of the fact Gentle Giant was going into the mass consumer market and then decided they did not want a new competitor using their logo on a GG product.   Either way we get more junk to collect !!!

SOMETHING BIG IS ABOUT TO SHAKE THE MASS MARKET

Gentle Giant Ltd. Expands to Include Gentle Giant Toys
