I was in TRU the other day talking with the Hasbro representative and TRU staff.   The one thing I did notice is there were a lot of staff on the floor and the store was completely dead in terms of customers in the store.

I hope a plan comes together to save TRU Canada.

I think Canada TRU's will be OK.  They may trim 5-15 of the lower preforming stores but should pull out of this.  Canadian stores have been managed and preformed better than the US stores for many, many years now.

And one thing to add - less toy competition in Canada.  No Target, Big Lots, Dollar General, or any of the other major dollar store chains that are just mini-walmarts.

I'm with you, CF. I think someone will buy them out & it will continue "business as usual" up here.

33,000 jobs will be lost.

"Make America grea...."....oh, nevermind.

TRU Canada is mentioned in this article:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2018/03/14/toys-r-us-to-close-all-800-of-its-u-s-stores/?utm_term=.e0661643e828

 :fett:

I can't read that article behind the pay wall, but here's another:
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/14/toys-r-us-is-exploring-a-plan-that-could-keep-200-stores-open-even-after-liquidation.html

They are looking to spin off the stronger Canadian branch to a new buyer, and possibly some of the best-performing US stores, with the new company to be run out of Canada. Interesting and hopeful, we'll see how this all plays out.

Yeah, the other article says pretty much the same thing. A group of toy makers lead by MGA Entertainment submitted a bid to buy all of the 82 Canadian stores and want to try and save as many as 400 US locations under the TRU banner.

For what it's worth, I spoke to one of my friends who works at TRU  Apparently there was a nationwide call today and they were told that none of the Canadian stores were closing (though who knows if that was just an attempt to reassure people).

If TRU Canada continues under new owners, hopefully we'll see some changes in pricing eventually.

They could use a few pricing changes for sure but also seriously improve the availability of items on the website. You can go to a store and see 100 of the same figure on the shelf and not see it anywhere on their website. I wonder if the Canadian stores will be the beneficiaries of the Zuckess Black Series 6" figure.
