Ebgames.ca has the 40th Anniversary Black Series Fett up for preorder https://www.ebgames.ca/Toys-Collectibles/Games/876164/star-wars-40th-anniversary-e5-boba-fett

Thanks! Pre-ordered. I hope they fixed the logo on his left shoulder. The archive one was misaligned.

I think EBGames is getting ready to ship the Luke/Yoda 2 packs.  I just checked today and the option to cancel the order is gone now.

I got my Carbonized Stormtrooper yesterday via courier.  Took it into the store to get my Edge discount.  Nice figure!

So the edge discount doesnt apply to online orders?I've been contemplating getting a card beyond my free one but heard this and it totally defeats the purpose of ordering online. Makes no sense. Are they at least working on that or do they just not care?

If I could get10% off I'd probably be content to buy everything from them. But not if I have to physically go in and conduct another transaction for everything I buy online. :sign0065: its 2020 not 2005. And with covid if I don't have to go to a store all the better.

Yeah, but when I pre-order online to pick up in-store, I only pay $5 first and I get the discount when I pay the balance.  Sucks that online orders where you pay everything first, you don't get a discount.

Funny thing is, the discount does apply online, but only for certain, very select things. For instance, they just advertised a 20% off sale for several of the 80th Anniversary Marvel Legends sets (trying to clear them out). Part of the promotion was that your Edge discount would stack with the sale if you login and order online. So they do allow it, but not for nearly as much as they do for in-store purchases. I wonder if this is somehow is to cut down on people sharing their loyalty memberships? If so, it's not very effective. In fact, it's probably easier to use other people's discounts in store. You don't even need the card, just tell the clerk the phone number associated with the account. They don't care if it's yours or not. I've even stood at the till and used my Edge card to help a random person next to me, the clerk even encouraged it.

The only other reason I can think of is, maybe it's a way for them to push traffic through their physical stores. I've heard mention from workers at several retail chains over the years that they don't like it when customers buy from the website vs. their local store. It affects the store's sales numbers, and makes them look like they're under-performing. Particularly for clothing stores, where customers will go in, try stuff on to check for fit, then go home and order everything through the website.

In EB Games' case, their website sucks enough that usually the only things I want to order from there are pre-orders. A lot of their regular-wave single figures aren't even listed accurately (usually a "random pick" from a certain wave), so anything like that I'd still go into the store for. Plus I like to browse, and each location has different stock, especially when it comes to older figures and used games.

If EB was to give their website a major upgrade, list everything properly, and then even tie-in online orders to be able to pull from physical stock on store shelves rather than just warehouse stock (and not penalize the store for having it count as a web transaction), there might be less concern about website traffic stealing from foot traffic, though it would probably make the physical store space somewhat redundant.

But honestly, this is going to happen within the next few years anyways. By the end of this next game console generation (PS5 & new Xbox this winter), physical copies of games will become a thing of the past (to my chagrin). New & used games is a major part of EB's sales model. Without that, they'll basically just be left with the hardware, toys, collectibles and other gamer/pop culture related merchandise. I can see them closing A LOT of their stores and just going mainly online if they want to survive as a company. Similar to what Davids Tea just announced. So why not build a loyal online customer base NOW, especially while everyone has increased their online activity, get them in the habit of using your site as much as possible, and provide the Edge discount for everything there?

I asked before and they just said they are on a different system.  Funny thing too was that when I picked up my Stormtrooper today, they couldn't find any record of it when I gave my Edge Card to scan.

Then I said I ordered it online and she's like, oh, and then looked up my name instead and told me that online orders will generate a different account number, and then told me how stupid that was, which I didn't disagree.

EB stands a good chance of going the way of Blockbuster - I think you're exactly right, they've been diversifying their offerings in preparation for games to go online purchase only for the last few years.

Console sales aren't real money makers afaik & I don't think their DragonballZ gum dispensers are going to be enough to keep them in business, but hopefully I'm wrong. I like visiting the stores.

I agree EB Games business model is in trouble. We have seen it with all the video rental places and the HMV's. Without physical games it is only a matter of time before this chain closes. Online sales may help them but they sure need to improve that experience.
