What's up with the scalper pricing by Amazon?
« on: July 01, 2018, 12:07:18 PM »

Does anyone know of a change in Amazon.ca policy recently to have "dynamic pricing" or some other garbage to justify overcharging for in-demand toys?

Here just two examples of Ships from and sold by Amazon.ca. product listings at significantly over MSRP:

Compared to, say Qi'ra which is listed at retail price: https://www.amazon.ca/Star-Wars-Force-Corellia-Figure/dp/B0721JXH1Y

I know they're just toys meant mostly for adults with disposable income, but this makes me so angry that I'm purposefully directing my collecting dollars elsewhere.

Sold by Ameristore USA if you look at the bottom. I think the ones Amazon gets and distributes on their own will be at the retail or better prices they normally provide.

Basically the same at Walmart.ca  Items sold by Walmart directly are at regular retail or less.  Individuals who use Walmart.ca as a sales platform will charge whatever they like...usually at scalper level prices.

No, I specifically linked the prices sold by Amazon.ca directly

I concur. This is sold and shipped by Amazon.ca. Maybe Amazon uses these scalper prices to gauge and adjust their own prices? A little annoying to say the least. Walmart.ca seems to be impervious to this phenomenon, but for how long? And how many people are not really aware of what's happening, thinking they buy something from Amazon or Walmart but are in fact screwed by these scalpers? Shame on WM and Amazon for this trickery, they know exactly what they're doing luring customers to their site with their brand name and then launching the hords of hungry scalpers on their poor victims...  :shakehead: >:( >:(

Unfortunately, they get traffic that way cause they know 3rd party sellers sell rare stuff that pop up on search engines and people will then go to their site to check it out.

The other link showed sold by Ameristore - I didn't check the second one prior to replying.  :speechless-smiley-004:

I'm not sure in that case. I guess they must have some software that automatically adjusts prices or something - I've seen comments & links to books that have similar things working & are being sold for pennies or 10s of thousands of dollars - neither price making sense.
