Let's talk ToyFair 2019
« on: February 16, 2019, 03:08:10 PM »

Okay, we need a place to gab about TF2019.... so here we go.

Some great tidbits coming from JI's coverage of the Hasbro SW presentation.  Specifically:

https://jediinsider.com/276-20503

Quote
Kenner line announced. Called the Star Wars retro collection, using modern scans, recreated original kenner detail, coor matched. 6 figures with Chewbacca, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker,Storm Trooper, Leia, Darth Vader. They are doing a brand new Grand Moff Tarkin in the Kenner style. Tarkin is being released in the Escape from the Death Star game reissue.

Tarkin?  Kenner style?  Yay!!!  But you have to buy a game to get him?  Booo!!!

edit: fans will be able to vote for upcoming retro figures. Yay!

Quote
Vedain, Skiff Guard 3-Pack. Jabba's Palace Adventure set with Carbonite block that attaches to Jabba's wall. Will have Taun Taun Head and Gera head on the wall. Ree Yees and Han Solo will be include and it will have Vintage Collection packaging.

Finally some SA love for the 3.75" scale... plus a new Skiff which I presume will come on Kenner packaging.

Retro seems to be the hot thing for 2019. We've got Hasbro doing Kenner-style figures but also:

1) NECA continuing the Kenner ALIENS (and Predator) toylines, not as their 7" scale figures, but the actual original scale and look of the Kenner era toys - with action features (ughhh) and vintage packaging.

https://news.toyark.com/2019/02/16/toy-fair-2019-neca-aliens-and-predator-333742

2) Super7 seems to have a barrage of nostalgic properties (uhm, Breakin?  Ghosts n Goblins?  MegaDeth?):
https://news.toyark.com/2019/02/16/toy-fair-2019-super-7-reaction-figures-334085

Among that though, wow ALIENS figures of Newt, Bishop, Hicks, etc.  Robocop, They Live, Toxic Avenger...

3) Mezco is doing 5POA retro... the Scooby Doo figures look amazing. The villains are ready to be unmasked and scream out "I'd have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

https://news.toyark.com/2019/02/16/toy-fair-2019-mezco-5-points-333944

Conclusion: 2019 is a good time to be an old-guy collector who was alive and geeky in the 1980s-early 1990s!

Found this rundown on toyark.com

Really hoping TRU steps up and brings in some of the target stuff and walmart canada actually carries their own exclusives. Otherwise it will be a very difficult and expensive year for Canadian collectors.

And that new 8 inch Vader? Really don't want a new scale. Only way I'll buy that is on clearance deeeeeep discount.

Already have the boardgame so not really impressed with having to buy that to get tarkin. Imagine having to ship that from the US since that is a target item.

Same with the vintage guards 3 pack. Thanks for the redundant 2 to get the one I want.

And I'm still waiting for Sim Aloo...

Based on the list below I could see myself spending $260US this year. But that could translate to well over $400 Can after exchange and shipping etc.

It's almost dizzying just how much stuff there is and which is an exclusive or not.  I'm going to try and slowly accumulate a list in this post, have them sorted out by availability.

EXCLUSIVES:

Kenner retro figures - $10US, spring 2019 (TARGET)

Escape from Death Star with retro Tarkin - $20US, May 2019 (TARGET)

Jabba's Palace Adventure Set w TVC Han + Ree-Yees - $50US, spring 2019  (WALMART)
Note1: am reading that the carbonite block uses a magnet to let you mount it to the wall, and can be raised and lowered. That is cool.
Note2: the side walls can be removed and you can display either of them lined up with the carbonite display wall or  perpendicular to it. That is also cool.

TVC Skiff Lando - $13US, spring 2019  (WALMART)
Note: he has retooled, longer legs!  Hasbro finally corrected the short legs from the Deleted Scene Sandstorm Lando! Does not come with the Sandstorm Lando's accessories.

TVC Stormtrooper Han Solo  - (TARGET)

BS 6" Luke in Stormtrooper Disguise - (TARGET)

NON-EXCLUSIVES / WIDER RELEASE:

Desert Skiff vehicle - $50US, Oct 4th 2019
UPDATE: EB Games pre-order is $60CAN, sku #744436
(Thanks IanToronto)

Desert Skiff 3-figure pack - $40US, fall 2019 (I think this one is available through Amazon and online retailers?)

TVC Gammorean Guard - (also available through some online retailers)

SAIL BARGE:
Hasbro will begin shipping them out March 4th. There will be a tracking number given (whew) to customers via email.  You must be available to sign for it when it arrives (FedEx).

I liked the look of most of the items, but don't really need to purchase a whole bunch of it for myself.

Retro? I have the originals (other than Tarkin of course) so those are a pass.

6"? Nothing from ESB other than archive Yoda - I'm rolling the dice on yet another release in 2020 for the ESB 40th anniversary but I MIGHT pop for this....

I have a modern skiff & won't need another, but I'll grab the guard 3 pack & Jabba's Palace Playset. Really hoping the single carded VOTC figures keep showing up here.

I'm gonna have to book off work indefinitely once I get that tracking number, lol. Can't risk the wife signing for it!  :o >:( :explosion:

And people who pre-ordered the Barge should definitely go check out the assembly instructions!  Really well done, and I appreciate that the sails can be easily removed for "play" (lol, which I'm sure many of us will be regressing back to our childhoods to do once assembled!)

http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/2019-02-19-final-haslab-update-ship-date-confirmed-assembly-instructions-added/

Only concern: I've almost never gotten any email updates from Hasbro... if it weren't for JTA I wouldn't even know about these news updates.  Seen the same concern expressed by US JTA members too.

After I posted my last message, I sent an email to their customer service asking to make sure I'm still subscribed to updates so that I get the tracking number. Here's what they sent me (and I see in another thread that IanToronto got the same boilerplate message but with one important addition at the end of the email):

Quote
Thank you for your support in backing Jabba’s Sail Barge and your interest in receiving development update emails. At this time, we are unable to email customers residing in Canada with product development updates due to laws currently in place for Canadian Consumers. We do apologize for any frustration or inconvenience that this may cause; however, we ask that you visit the update page on HasbroLab.com to keep informed.

You will however receive the email with tracking information once the order ships out.

So it confirms that even if you are unsubscribed to updates, you will still get the tracking information.

What kind of crazy laws do we have in place the prohibits Hasbro from sending some pictures and comments on the building of a toy?
Doesn't make sense.

Doesn't make sense.

The CASL laws can really be boiled down to : you can't email someone who didn't ask you to email them, unless its for something related to something they've asked for.

So an invoice, tracking number... those are understood.  They are about our purchase.

But unless when we bought the barge we clicked on a "I agree that you can send me emails about the barge production, blah, blah blah" Hasbro *might* be in violation of CASL.  Probably their lawyers told them better safe than sorry.

What's odd is that when this law was passed, I received a barrage of e-mails requesting my consent to keep on receiving e-mails that I had signed up for. Hasbro never even reached out to offer this to us.

I thought the same thing. Hasbro probably didn't realize this was an option ...or just didn't care, they've got our money already, what are we going to do, cancel our barges? :D

I don't read the other forums. This forum is meant for big news, and the Sail Barge is big news so I would have expected it to be in here. When I didn't see it here, I just thought I would check.

By the way, where do you get the March 14th date, as the info from Haslab I have seen says "we will be shipping all items by March 4th"?
