Damaged Boba Fett Card
« on: February 02, 2023, 11:13:11 AM »

Having an interesting situation with a Hasbro Order. Wondering what your thoughts are. Ordered and received a 6" Boba Fett figure on Vintage Kenner Card.  I don't collect 6" normally but decided I wanted this particular one.   When I received the figure it had significant shipping damage - card was wrecked .  So I called Hasbro and they shipped out another one.   I got the second really quick but the second was damaged so much in shipping that the card was ripped, bent, crushed.   Neither carded figure would be purchased by any collector or parent giving a gift to a child due to the damage .   And the whole reason I made the purchase was to have Boba Fett on the Vintage figure, so the figure itself has little to no value to me.   The second call to Hasbro caught me off guard.  I was told the carded figure is not the product and only if the toy itself was damage could there be a claim.  I have been dealing with Hasbro for a long time and I have never encountered this with them before.   Considering the ever rising cost of their figures, the fact I am dealing direct with the company and the fact that obviously to the marketing team at Hasbro and all collectors we know the card back is a part of the product we are buying, I am questioning how I should move forward.   Has there been a change at Hasbro with new management and Hasbro now expects the customer to pay a ton of money and get severely damaged products and we should just be happy they allow us to buy their products.   Sort of got me questioning supporting Hasbro and maybe it's time to hang up the collecting hat.  I did politely suggest they should really look at the pictures of the product and I sent the pictures and a note explaining the damage.  This was done a week ago and I have not heard back.   My plan is to wait until Saturday and then call Hasbro to follow up if I have not heard from them since it will be over a week.  Since I don't collect 6" I am going to suggest, I return both Boba Fett figures and have them give me back my money.   This week I received 7 different 3.75" vintage card figures from Hasbro and they were all perfectly fine and I was happy to get the figures.  So I know they are capable of being a good supplier .

This sounds like a mis-informed employee. It would be absurd to not consider the packaging as part of the product as Hasbro knows full well it is a major selling point. Otherwise why would they ever repack 6" figures on vintage cards? I'd try calling again and hopefully get a different employee, or see if you can escalate it to a manager or something.

If there has been a change and they are now making this their policy then that is a real problem.

I had a vintage figure arrive with some creasing and called and they wanted photos, etc. I then got busy and never followed up, but they at least showed interest in helping. That was a couple years ago. I'm hoping you just got someone new to the job or something.

Called and talked with a different agent.   I made the suggestion to just return the figure and get a refund.   They are mailing the paper work to me, I think because it is Canada they have to mail the paper work and I was told there will be no cost to me to ship it back. So I am still not sure if there has been change in their policy in terms of what they consider damage.   I just figured it was best to return the item and get my money back instead of getting into a debate about what is damage and what is not damage for a figure.    Hopefully Darth Cujo is right and it is just a new employee that needs training.  But I can tell you that they never followed up on my second set of photos and it had been 9 days since I sent them.   They had said they would get back to me with an email with a resolution but they never did.  Hopefully I will get the paperwork.  Interestingly enough, this morning I got an email from them asking to review the figure online at Hasbro.

Let us know how it progresses. Very disheartening, especially coming from Hasbro themselves. They know - should know - that the packaging IS the product for many of these items. We've gotten the same figures so many bloody times at this point, it's the updated packaging that twigs our interest much of the time.
